AIBU is endlessly interesting and sometimes, people say things that make me hoot with laughter.

Some very witty women are on here!

TokyoSushi · 08/11/2021 16:48

It is fascinating and super helpful. It also offers huge insight into other people's lives (and sometimes makes you realise just how lucky you are) You learn something new every day and the education I have received in subjects such as current affairs (thanks @RedToothBrush et al) the Weather (@Ohyoubadbadkitten) and many many other things have been invaluable.

Mumsnet has directed me to a mortgage broker which enabled us to buy our dream house, suggested a range of books which got my very reluctant 7-year-old to absolutely love reading, gave me endless tips when I had an obscene amount of mosquito bites in Majorca and just this weekend has helped me find an amazing winter coat.

It's sometimes hilarious, sometimes heartbreaking, and often everything in between, totally love it!

CausingMeUpset · 08/11/2021 16:52

My mum died when I was a teen. My dad went AWOL soon after. I lived overseas for a while. I had issues with my pregnancies and conceiving. My in-laws made my marriage difficult. My marriage nearly ended.

Through all that I was unsupported and mostly alone.

MN women have helped me through all of this and made me well informed.

CausingMeUpset · 08/11/2021 16:54

It’s like a big sister who sometimes you need a break from, but go back because it’s home.

cultkid · 08/11/2021 18:21

These are heart warming
I hate to be so soppy but it's lovely

Very intelligent posters for me who don't suffer fools

ColinTheKoala · 08/11/2021 18:24

I agree that you learn about things you just didn't know about before - I've learnt a lot about invisible disabilities on here, as well as feminism.

I hope that I've also been helpful to others at times.

ParmigianoReggiano · 08/11/2021 18:26

There are so many posters on here that you get a wide range of experiences and perspectives.

Needhelp101 · 08/11/2021 18:29

I've learned a huge amount.

I also now own a robot hoover.

The threads were posters support people in intolerable situations and get them out of them are truly heartwarming.

RaininSummer · 08/11/2021 18:33

It's entertaining, enlightening and I like reading about different lives especially those of women. Via mumsnet, I have met several interesting women with shared interests and made some good friends. It's also a great source of almost instant free advice even if you do need to sift it carefully. Viva Mumsnet!

RoseHarper · 08/11/2021 18:35

I've learned so many things, some completely frivolous, some serious. What I love most is hearing from woman whose lives and therefore points of view are so different from mine. Also, random things like The Tack Room...I have never and will never own a horse, but find it strangely fascinating! Book recommendations, in fact so much o could go on. I honestly think it's made me a more educated and well rounded person.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 08/11/2021 18:36

I also love the huge range of viewpoints from sensible to completely hatstand about so many things.

Threewheeler1 · 08/11/2021 18:37

I think I laugh here more than in real life.
JesusInTheCabbageVan is worth her weight in gold when I'm having a crappy day Grin
Agree that it's not like anywhere else and seeing someone in need get a little support from internet strangers is a wonderful thing. I have learnt so much about things I didn't even know existed, it's mind boggling Grin
Nice thread OP! Smile

Amdone123 · 08/11/2021 18:51

Of course it's better than fb. I couldn't do fb. Too false.
I like mn. I laugh so much at some of the posters' comments. As a pp said, some very witty ( and intelligent) posters.
I think you always get the truth too. You might not like it, but it's the truth. I don't think you get that with fb.
I struggle to keep my alcohol intake down, but the threads on here have helped me enormously ; I can tell the truth, not sugar coat anything. No one judges me ; just great, useful, solid advice.
The odd troll but I think they're easily identifiable after a while so I just ignore.

Coffeeonmytoffee · 08/11/2021 18:52

You get the best advice in Style and Beauty!

FaceFullOfCake · 08/11/2021 18:52

MN potentially saved my life through other people's threads which had posters advising them to do a Clare's Law check - I applied for one for a guy I was seeing (who told me he had prev convictions but claimed to have reformed), and the disclosure was terrifying; he'd completely lied to me about what he'd done. I wouldn’t have thought of making an application if it wasn't for here.

Ended up seeing him in the paper a few months later, jailed for several years for attacking his next partner.

Thank you, MN, for the survival tools Flowers

Tal45 · 08/11/2021 18:57

I can always find a thread (or 20) that peaks my interest. FB gets dull after 10 seconds of scrolling whereas I can spend hours on here joining in discussion or trying to help someone with a bit of advice.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 08/11/2021 19:04

I've had some great advice from MN posters on a wide range of dilemmas from the fairly trivial to the important.

On occasion I've laughed out loud at some of the threads.

CocoandCleo · 08/11/2021 19:11

I absolutely love how honest people are. I joined when I was pregnant and was looking at the baby name threads. Someone was asking about a particular name and some of the responses were just brutal. It made me laugh and it was refreshing.

Scautish · 08/11/2021 19:16

Helped me seek a diagnosis (Asperger’s) which has been life-changing.

Though has also made me realise how much contempt and how little understand there is of the condition. The ableism, ignorance and lack of empathy displayed in some threads makes me cry sometimes especially when I think about what my lovely and sensitive sons may have to face.

But I also made a really cool real life autistic friend I met on here. So that is good.

Theywalkamongstus · 08/11/2021 19:21

I've been here for years and I used to read so many threads that had me crying with laughter. That doesn't happen very often now but I still come here all the time. It's endlessly fascinating and it's been the biggest source of learning for me barr none. The wit and intelligence of some posters is just awesome. I wish it hadn't turned me into a radical feminist though. I wish that genie was still in the lamp.

A580Hojas · 08/11/2021 19:37

I think I loved Mumsnet for a while, maybe 2010 to 2015. Now I just quite like it.

JustineMumsnet · 09/11/2021 11:16

Hello - this makes heartening reading Smile - thank you for starting the thread OP, we're super glad you find MN useful - that's pretty much what our purpose is.

I wondered if I might ask you all a favour? We've been a bit battered on Trustpilot by some folks who've we've had cause to ban from the site for various misdemeanours. If anyone feels able to add their thoughts about Mumsnet - just for a bit of balance of course Grin - we'd be super grateful. Here's the link uk.trustpilot.com/review/mumsnet.com (and of course totally understand if you'd rather not but thought I'd mention it)

EishetChayil · 09/11/2021 11:26

So many clever, witty women.

And the freedoms (up to a point) to be able to discuss our rights.

cultkid · 09/11/2021 14:35

My loves have been

When I was 23 and I had a nephrostomy I got some seriously good support here with practical tips, sympathy and some tough love too. I really needed it at the time when I thought my life was the worst

I've had reassurances and support with irregular bleeding, health issues etc

Shared some worrying times with women who really needed love and support

Given a virtual Reality check to people who have lost the plot

Read many many many a hilarious story too. When I've been poorly MN has provided hours of light hearted entertainment

I'm so glad to have it
