Still not sure anything will come of it as far as an indictment, but FWIW

There's a small annoyance too, if this is accurate:

Sooner or later people who live on tick without ever getting round to payment get refused tick.

Hearings are set to start 9.6 at 9pm EDT and will be broadcast

They obviously want to reach the biggest audience they can so they're airing them in 'prime time'

Roussette · 07/06/2022 05:41

That article is gobsmacking Across. Trump's actions on the day were just as bad as we thought, if not worse.

I shall keep checking this thread and news on the 9th

DuncinToffee · 07/06/2022 10:23

From that article

Some legal observers argue the Justice Department faces an uphill battle in determining criminal intent because Trump could claim that he actually believed his own Big Lie about massive voter fraud.

Now where have we heard that recently, Johnson and Trump Angry

DuncinToffee · 07/06/2022 17:36

Fox News makes it official: It will NOT show Thursday's 1/6 hearing like all the other major networks. Tucker Carlson's show will air as usual. Carlson promotes conspiracy theories about the riot, calls the committee "illegitimate," and ridicules the committee members.
Fox's top news anchors will be moved over to the Fox Business Network, and they will cover the hearing there. At 8pm ET on an ordinary night, Fox News has more than 3 million viewers, while Fox Business has under 100,000. That pretty much says it all about Fox's priorities.

Link to Congress site to watch the "Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol", held on 9 June in US – which will be 10th June in UK, as after midnight here.

january6th.house.gov

Start time given on Congress site is 8:00 PM EDT 09 June 2022 (not 9 PM as someone stated above, though I don't why the difference).

And almost all the Republican senators seem to have stated that they are not going to bother to watch it because it's a meaningless partisan exercise in propaganda. I think one or two plan to look at some of it via an app at some later point.

Presumably they'll go to Fox "News" to get the talking points they need to make about it on social media.

edition.cnn.com/2022/06/09/politics/fbi-arrest-michigan-gubernatorial-candidate-ryan-kelley/index.html

A GOP Michigan gubernatorial candidate, Ryan Kelley, was arrested Thursday on misdemeanor charges related to his involvement in the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, according to the Justice Department.

The panel shows never-before-seen video footage from the January 6 riot.

This was no tourist visit.

AcrossthePond55 · 10/06/2022 14:28

Pretty damning hearing. Point by point showing how the storming of the Capitol was pre planned and strategized by Doofus and his henchmen using the Proud Boys as their vanguard.

And more evidence still to come!

Roussette · 10/06/2022 14:30

I wish I could watch it but I'm away with dodgy internet

DuncinToffee · 10/06/2022 15:22

I am not watching live, there is only so much I can take at one time.

greenacrylicpaint · 16/06/2022 21:39

no real surprises so far tbh
just what we knew suspected anyway.

AcrossthePond55 · 19/06/2022 15:19

No, no real surprises. Just surprising how many people who should have known better (career politicians, lawyers, etc) were deeply involved and encouraged his madness.

Bottom line for me is; I don't think this will end up in criminal charges on Doofus. The idea of indicting a former president scares the shit out of TPTB. They think of it as a 'slippery slope'. Whether heads will roll of his cohorts, who knows. They're going to have to have a scapegoat, aren't they? I think the best we can hope for is that the minds of some 'undecideds' or 'mild' Doofus followers will be changed by all the info coming out. As far as the die hards, nothing will change them. As Doofus said himself "I could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and nothing would happen". Sounds as if truer words were never spoken, much to my dismay and disgust.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 19/06/2022 16:58

I am pinning a bit ofhope on Georgia.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 21/06/2022 13:38

And this is simply typical, isn't it. When anyone the Fart employed gets into public trouble the orange one's first reaction is to say "I hardly knew him".

Roussette · 21/06/2022 15:18

It is unbelievable though isn't it... a near overthrowing of democracy, threats to hang the VP, all encouraged and abetted by TFG and his sycophants...and little done to make those responsible pay. It was an attempted coup.

I've found an article I read a while back that sets out why it's so difficult to prosecute TFG and others. It could just backfire and make things worse. Here it is

slate.com/news-and-politics/2022/04/trump-indictment-prosecution-theories.html.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 21/06/2022 16:05

My understanding for a while has been that they need to send Trump for trial on some charge before he declares a run for the presidency, because once he has done that any prosecution would be seen as political persecution.

AcrossthePond55 · 22/06/2022 18:23

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime

The Cult will believe that no matter when he's indicted. Hell, he's been screaming 'Democrat Witch Hunt Conspiracy Plot' about something or other since he started running in 2015.

As far as more reasonable people it will depend on the amount of evidence they have. I think that may be part of the reason for the televised hearings, to show that it's not a 'witch hunt' and that there is a preponderance of evidence pointed to a conspiracy to commit election fraud and to incite insurrection.

After yesterday's session it sounds to me as if Georgia has a rock solid case. A state prosecution may be less 'problematic' than a federal one vis a vis Doofus alleging it's a 'conspiracy' to stop him from running in 2024 since his #1 'enemies' (Pelosi, Schiff, et al) are not GA officials and would not be directly involved in the case. I think they said election fraud and the pressuring of state officials to commit fraud carries a 3 year sentence.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 22/06/2022 20:05

Someone has to go first! At the moment all the possible prosecutors seem to be standing in a doorway saying "After you" and "no no after you" to each other, and nobody is actually going anywhere.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 22/06/2022 20:07

It may be that all the Republican witnesses they've managed to get for the enquiry is a help; a least it can't be said that only Democrats are saying anything against him.

Today, the Supreme Court not only reversed nearly 50 years of precedent, it relegated the most intensely personal decision someone can make to the whims of politicians and ideologues—attacking the essential freedoms of millions of Americans
