So pleased to here your news, Across.

Asking can you summarise the Peter Navarro piece? Or perhaps I should subscribe to the Beast...

Thanks to all for the well wishes. We're now excitedly planning our 'big' RV trip for late summer 2022. We'd kicked around ideas but didn't want to 'tempt fate'. Silly.

In other good news, the redistricting of California has been completed, borders have 'shifted', and although we aren't in a 'blue' district now, we appear to be in one that is a bit less red AND whose elected House Representative has been a Democrat for years. Our previous district's Representative was a proud Trumpinista of the first water. Of course, no one really knows what's going to happen in the 2022 mid-terms. But hope springs eternal and all that.

TheSilveryTinsellyPussycat · 29/12/2021 16:00

Ooh, where will you be heading on your road trip?

We have made RV reservations in Yellowstone and are hoping to get reservations in Rocky Mtn Natl Park for before our YNP dates but they haven't opened yet. Beyond that, we still don't know for sure, probably a few days at Teton. I'm leaving it up to him.

DH doesn't want to push himself too hard on this trip nor go too far. We've been to Yellowstone many times so it's familiar to us and he feels secure in being able to tow there and in feeling 'at home' once we're there. Same with the Tetons. RMNP will be new, but not too much off the familiar beaten path (I-80) from trips to other locations.

That sounds a brilliant trip Across. Familiarity is great I think, especially when driving.

We are due to arrive in US a month today. Still holding out hope it will happen, very complicated on the old testing etc.

Fingers crossed for your trip.

It is complicated with not just federal tourism rules, but with different states and cities having their own different testing and vaxx requirements (or no requirements at all).

Oh my, this must have galled Trump. He blusters and goes to law, and they tell him to stuff it; the current White House staff politely say that some of the things the Committee has asked for might be a mistake, and the Committee doesn't argue.

I've noticed lots of reports similar to this.

www.theguardian.com/world/2021/dec/22/us-far-right-groups-local-impacts

'In the aftermath of the 6 January Capitol attack, US law enforcement has dealt serious blows to rightwing groups like the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers. Big tech firms have also largely curtailed their ability to spread their message, with widespread de-platforming of members on popular social networks.

But extremism experts say the far right in America is now undergoing something of an atomization and localization: moving away from central organizations that might be subject to more federal law enforcement surveillance, and towards decentralized movements in regional venues where it can actually seek positions of office and take power.'

Hugo Lowell
@hugolowell

'New: Justice Dept has now charged at least 275 rioters connected to the Capitol attack with corruptly obstructing of an official proceeding — for which Trump may also be referred by the Jan. 6 committee.'

They do anything for power

edition.cnn.com/2021/12/28/politics/trump-dunleavy-endorsement-murkowski/index.html

(CNN)Alaska GOP Gov. Mike Dunleavy on Thursday accepted former President Donald Trump's endorsement, which Trump had vowed to rescind if Dunleavy endorses Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.

"Please tell the President thank you for the endorsement. With regard to the other issue, please tell the President he has nothing to worry about," Dunleavy said in a statement referring to Murkowski and put out by Trump. Trump made Murkowski a top target in next year's midterm elections after the senator voted to convict him in his impeachment trial earlier this year.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 03/01/2022 17:15

The more I read, the more I see people saying they are afraid that there will be another Jan 6 in 2025. I don't think there will be; I think the Republican machine will have falsified the election results well before that, such that their candidate "wins", and I really don't see a bunch of Democrat thugs attempting a coup at the Capitol.

prettybird · 03/01/2022 17:20

That's my fear too Sad. Although Darwinism, aka anti-Vaxxers, might have reduced the number of Republican voters Wink

DuncinToffee · 03/01/2022 17:22

New York’s attorney general has issued subpoenas to former President Donald Trump and his two eldest children in connection with an ongoing civil investigation into the family’s business practices, according to a court filing Monday.
