To ask you to help me write a quiz...

It's my sister's birthday tomorrow and I've said I'll write a 'pub quiz' for over Zoom (we are all spread out over the country) tomorrow night. Does anybody have any cracking quiz questions or topics for me to use? We've kind of exhausted the ones on the internet (we are a quiz mad family 😂)

What two countries are landlocked by two counties?
Uzbekistan and Liechtenstein

NannyOggsWhiskyStash · 07/11/2021 18:55

Just type in general knowledge quiz questions in Google, you will get links to loads of them.

When I hosted a quiz in lockdown I had a round which was all about our home town. Not super exciting but it got people talking and learning some fun facts.

Is there a film/tv series you all love? Do a quiz on that, general knowledge about the film/series or match a quote to a character. I did Mean Girls as our friendship group know it word for word, so I made sure the questions were really hard, not obvious stuff. Also did a Friends quote-to-character round.

A round about the people who are in the quiz- questions about who did/said what, people’s like and dislikes.

My friend did a brilliant round in her quiz which was a round of old Facebook statuses (best if they are funny or embarrassing) and we had to put which person wrote the status.

Another round i did was find songs on YouTube that were covers of popular songs, the quizzers had to guess the song and original artist (not the cover artist) from a short clip. I picked a part of the song that wasn’t totally obvious (e.g no famous lyrics) and made a note beforehand of how long into the song to press play, I gave each clip about 5-10 seconds.

Do a Scavenger Round. Shout out household items such as bath towel or tin opener etc then everyone has to run and get one. Whoever is back to the screen holding the item first gets a point. Loads of fun!

AlmostAlwyn · 07/11/2021 19:01

One quiz I did that went down really well was to go through each person's Facebook and find the oldest posts I could find that were kind of funny, removed the names and other identifying stuff, then everyone had to guess whose post it was. It was quite challenging! But depends if your family are Facebook users!

laneyjane84 · 07/11/2021 19:02

Brilliant stuff, thank you! Yes I have done Google and feel like we have exhausted all the main ones now.
It's difficult to find a shared topic as it's all ages- eldest participant is 74 year old Grandad and youngest is 19 year old sister.

I'd recommend a web site (and app) called Kahoot which I use in my work (education) for quizzes - it has all sorts for all levels.

Puddlesandbubbles · 07/11/2021 19:06

During lock down I designed a quiz based on popular game shows. Tenable, Millionaire, Pointless, House of Games, Catchphrase etc. Because each round was structured differently it kept people intereted, but wasnt too difficult to get the rules. Lots of resources online for actual Pointless and Millionaire questions!

StoneofDestiny · 07/11/2021 19:09

Who is said to have k vented the Cat Flap?

Yellow85 · 07/11/2021 19:10

I always do the missing vowel round from only connect. Just pick a different topic every week - I’ve done cocktails, movies, actors, places, brands…example:

Lngslndct - Long Island ice tea

Wilma55 · 07/11/2021 19:13

StoneofDestiny · 07/11/2021 19:13

Age of UK's oldest person?
112

As of 6 November 2021, the oldest person living in the United Kingdom is Mary “Mollie” Walker, born 5 February 1909, aged 112 years, 274 days.

marmitegirl01 · 07/11/2021 19:16

If you do another one ask each participant to come up with 3 questions. We did this with neighbours for VE Day celebration and a dance group I'm with for lockdown. Works really well as you get a real variety of questions and of course you get three points for your own questions. So everyone gets some points 🤣

laneyjane84 · 07/11/2021 19:17

Amazing! Love these ideas. Will check out Kahoot too

Rainbowqueeen · 07/11/2021 19:26

A round of which year did an event happen in ? Eg princess diana died , Beatles broke up.

edin16 · 07/11/2021 19:27

A scavenger hunt round is always fun.

The one I've done had 3 rounds and in each there was three things to get... for example it would be: something stinky (cheese, dirty sock....), an animal (ornament, toy, the cat....) and a household object that could be used as a sec toy (if it doesn't have to be pg). Other ideas could be something you put on your head, something of a particular colour, something that makes noise.

Do this round half way through the quiz, it will get people up and moving. The quiz master will have to watch the screen closely to see what order the first few teams get back first

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 07/11/2021 19:27
