Has anyone else got this awful sore throat?

It’s not covid as I’ve had a test done.

I’m 4 days into this and there’s no let up, it’s still really hurting to swallow. I’m getting pain in my ears too.
I can’t sleep at night as the pain is so bad, I’ve taken ibuprofen/paracetamol the past 4 nights. It’s really winding me up now.
I had a fever for one night, but the sore throat has been consistent.

Just wondering if anyone else is suffering the same Sad

Speak to your GP you might need antibiotics. Ultra chloriseptic throat spray is bloody brilliant in the mean time.

Crystalcandle · 06/11/2021 21:40

@TotallySuper I just came off antibiotics for a chest infection two weeks ago, honestly, this is relentless! I have a toddler at pre school, so I guess he’s bringing these things home to me Sad

Yep worth speaking to them again, sounds like you might have tonsillitis. Do get that throat spray it's literally a life saver.

PinkiOcelot · 06/11/2021 21:43

I have. Took a COVID test this morning but just to rule out really. Still waiting for the results. Banging headache and earache as well.

BashfulClam · 06/11/2021 21:47

I had an awful sore throat due to reflux. I had what the doctor called ‘reflux trauma’ where the acid rose into my throat and burned it…so my body is trying to dissolve itself-wonderful! Can you have a look with your camera torch to see if it is your tonsils or another area. The Reflux burn was bright red in front of my tonsils.

Crystalcandle · 06/11/2021 21:49

@PinkiOcelot will you post on here your result please? I’d be interested to know. Mine is very definitely negative, but maybe it was a false negative, who knows!

I think check for tonsillitis. Honestly I really feel for you, I’ve never been so relentlessly ill as when my toddler was at nursery.

babyinthacorner1 · 06/11/2021 21:51

Yes! Started Tuesday night. Been to out of hours and had 2 telephone appts with GP. On my second lot of antibiotics now but there’s no let up. Panadol is working to numb the pain a bit but literally nothing else is working.
I feel less ill in myself than I did on Wednesday but my throat is still so painful.
You have my full sympathy, OP. It’s so awful.

babyinthacorner1 · 06/11/2021 21:52

I’ve also been doing LFTs and had a PCR yesterday - all negative.

Crystalcandle · 06/11/2021 22:01

@babyinthacorner1 you sound like you’re on the same timeline as me, mine started on Tuesday too,Tuesday night I had a fever and Wednesday the sore throat started and hasn’t stopped since.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 06/11/2021 22:04

I’ve had it since last weekend, the pain changes from mild to “I’m scared to swallow” because it hurts so much. I have a bad cough as well.

I don’t have any white spots or swelling on my tonsils. My uvula looks a bit longer than normal (not wider).

Negative LFT and PCR. I had to isolate until I got the result of the latter (home test), work aren’t happy.

babyinthacorner1 · 06/11/2021 22:08

@Crystalcandle it’s just horrendous isn’t it? I cried non stop on Wednesday as I was just in so much pain. And I usually have quite a high pain threshold - or so I like to think. I also got antibiotics for a wisdom tooth infection on Monday although that’s cleared up now thank goodness.
Def speak to the gp, especially if you had a fever - that usually indicates a bacterial infection and you need antibiotics. The only thing that has worked for me pain wise is Panadol. Not even Co- codamol helped! Really hope it eases soon x

ShinyMe · 06/11/2021 22:10

I'm really prone to tonsillitis and throat things - for me, what works really well unless it's very severe, is gargling with soluble aspirin.

Crystalcandle · 06/11/2021 22:13

@babyinthacorner1 I only had the fever for one night, I assume you can get a fever with a virus too?
I will speak to GP, I was going to wait until Tuesday, then it will have been a week since symptoms started.

OP posts:
Crystalcandle · 06/11/2021 22:13

Hoping by then it’ll be gone anyway! (Please!)

Crystalcandle · 06/11/2021 22:14

@CaptainMarvelDanvers oh no, don’t tell me you still have it now?! Is it still just as severe? I can’t handle another few days or another week of this, it’s torture Sad

RunnerDown · 06/11/2021 22:21

You can get a fever with a virus - high temperature was initially a central symptom of covid . There are a lot of viral infections going round that are not Covid. They are horrible but self limiting. No point in taking antibiotics for them

Popfan · 06/11/2021 22:27

Could definitely be tonsillitis, that for me was far worse than covid.... temp and raging sore throat. It needs antibiotics

MuchTooTired · 06/11/2021 22:28

Oh goody, another weird bug/illness from nursery! I had a tickly cough a couple of nights ago, nothing yesterday, but today my throat has been seriously dry (feels almost like sandpaper) and is generally sore and annoying. I’m planning on some cough medicine, painkillers and some sleep in the hope I get rid of it before it settles in for the long haul.

PinkiOcelot · 06/11/2021 22:31

@Crystalcandle yes, will do.

myheartskippedabeat · 06/11/2021 22:36

@Crystalcandle

We're all the same but 2 negative covid tests now

Me and DP have both had our tonsils removed and so that rules that out just hoping the kids don't have tonsillitis

No idea what it is we all feel rough tho

BeenHereForAges · 06/11/2021 22:36

I had at the begining of last week. It was 5/6 days of awfulness and then better each morning from there. Hot drinks really helped me. Lemsip with honey was a life saver. I hope you're better soon, it really was a shit week!

cliffdiver · 06/11/2021 22:37

Yes. It was a cold. Went round the school.

Took about a 9/10 days to go, which is standard for a cold.

The onset for colds is gradual, a sore throat lasts several days.

Day and Night Nurse helped.

It's only 4 day... even if it is tonsillitis, you don't need to see a GP.

Yeah I still have it. I think the coughing is making it worse.

I have a humidifier, drinking water and limiting my talking.

Overthinker19 · 06/11/2021 22:43

My lo is 3 and on day 4 of fever. Bad cough, sore throat, scratchy voice. We have a prescription for antibiotics as dr couldn’t rule out bacterial tonsillitis but can’t see any white spots. What would you do?
