Has anyone else got this awful sore throat?

It’s not covid as I’ve had a test done.

I’m 4 days into this and there’s no let up, it’s still really hurting to swallow. I’m getting pain in my ears too.
I can’t sleep at night as the pain is so bad, I’ve taken ibuprofen/paracetamol the past 4 nights. It’s really winding me up now.
I had a fever for one night, but the sore throat has been consistent.

Just wondering if anyone else is suffering the same Sad

My teen dd had a bit of a temp on Monday, the next day she complained of a sore throat and the glands in her neck on one side weren't far off golf ball size. She has had trouble swallowing and for the last 24 hours has been complaining of earache.
Also has had a blocked nose and feels exhausted. She has spent last two days listening to an audiobook in bed.

My sympathies OP, mine started on Sunday and I still feel (and look) as rough as a badger's arse today. Got all the usual bad cold symptoms and coughing up lots of green stuff. I've done two lateral flows and a PCR, all negative and it can't be flu as I'm not bedridden.

I think we just have to ride it out - lots of people seem to have it and it appears to linger on for a while. I'm having plenty of hot drinks, a few brandies, Jakeman's throat sweets, paracetamol and ibuprofen alternated and a hot water bottle on the chest seems to help shift stuff.

Hope everyone's on the mend soon!

Yes, I've had mine since Tuesday or Monday (I can't remember which) can't sleep lying down because I just cough so much so that DH came to check on me in the spare room last night.

Throat is so sore to swallow, top of my chest is hurting too and I had a touch of earache earlier. I've got horrendous heartburn as well so feeling pretty miserable. DH commented that this is not like me, usually grab some painkillers and get on with it but they're not doing much at all.

Might call dr on Monday/Tuesday, this is why I hate this time of year

I had this and it has turned out to be Covid...

Crystalcandle · 07/11/2021 02:59

@Dallasdays did it? What were your symptoms? A very sore throat? I have done a test and it’s negative.

@Crystalcandle it started with a general feeling of malaise/ bit of a temperature and a vey sore throat particularly first thing, and an ability to speak properly (only in a very croaky voice). LFT was initially negative but then turned positive a few days later and confirmed by PCR. Hope everyone is ok. Covid itself hasn't been the end of the world, like having a bad cold. Annoying to have to isolate though!

Yes! I started feeling ill on Wednesday and had a temp that night only. Covid test all negative. Since Thursday my throat has been so painful. It hurts to swallow, talk… I’m living off ice cream and soup right now. I generally feel rubbish as well, achy, foggy head, phlegmy etc…

DS had a virus the week before so I think I’ve caught it from him and from googling, I suspect viral tonsillitis. I don’t have any white postules or anything which is why I suspect viral. Apparently it goes away on its own, soon hopefully!

Check with the GP - could be strep - in which case a round of antibiotics will do wonders.

Otherwise, I don’t have a sore throat but I’m on WEEK SIX of a cold and still completely miserable with it, so yes definitely some nasty viruses around.

OhGiveUp · 07/11/2021 10:58

I had it a couple of weeks ago OP. It was a throat infection which landed me in bed for three days. I felt absolutely shocking.
I was prescribed antibiotics and I'm only just starting to feel like a fully functioning human again.
My daughter went down with it last week, not passed on by me as we live a good hour away from each other and hadn't seen each other for a few weeks prior to me getting it, so I think it's definitely something that's going round.

How are we all today? Day 5 here and I’m really struggling. Having to wake myself up in the night in order to take antibiotics and last night I couldn’t get back to sleep. I know it’s a very minor illness compared to what other people are dealing with but I’m feeling very sorry for myself Sad
