Am I unreasonable to think they should correct this mistake?

A friend is a representative for a well-known cosmetics firm. I recently made an order for items worth nearly £80 which arrived a couple of weeks later.

I was pleased with most of the items I received, but was disappointed to find that one item was not only the wrong colour, but it was also a slightly different and completely unsuitable product for me. As I can't use it, it's completely useless to me.

I let my friend know that same day and she said she would order the right one straight away and collect the wrong one the next time we meet. That was just over a month ago and I had heard nothing since.

This week, I've been thinking about ordering some more things from this company for myself and for Christmas presents, but was reluctant to do so until the mistake with my last order was rectified.

I sent a message to my friend asking when I could expect to receive the correct product and she told me that I had misunderstood her and that she would not order the correct product (which I have paid for) until I return the one sent to me in error.

Am I being unreasonable to think I shouldn't have to return an item I didn't order or want before I receive the item I have already paid for? I have seen the order my friend sent to the company. The mistake was definitely the company's and not hers.

I'm left feeling very let-down and disinclined to order anything else from this company.

You've never known a shop to expect you to return a product before you get a replacement? Have you never shopped on amazon? This is exactly what they do. You can't have many worries in your life if you are so bothered about this. Also can't understand if you like their products you can't accept they made an error and get a new one. Feels like cutting off your nose to spite your face really. The shop won't be bothered, you are the only one who is losing out.

I don't know why people get their hair done, just be you.
Don't know why people wear jewellery, just be you.
Don't know why people wear nice shoes, just be you.

You sounds like fun 🤣

That isn’t how it works? Of course you give the wrong item back first.

Bangolads · 04/11/2021 21:51

Yes you need to return it?!

PearlyShamps · 04/11/2021 23:20

Maybe that's why they get away with treating their customers and representatives like sht.*

How is this them treating anyone like sh*t?? I have had this happen before when I've ordered online, and returned the item for an exchange. They made a mistake - it happens. It's a little inconvenient, but not the end of the World. Just pop in in the post, and they'll replace it.

I do think you ought to be refunded your postage cost though, that's only right.

If it's Younique, I got sent incorrect and poor quality items. My friend was mortified and was going to be out of pocket to sort it out. She did and I felt awful. I did have to pay to post the items back but I reused their packaging so I wasn't out of pocket by much...but we were both down in money by the end.

If the company is avon you don't need to send it back before you receive your new one, as soon as your friend orders a replacement it should come in her next order.

LoisLane66 · 05/11/2021 01:18

In the OP's original post, she said that her friend agreed to order the replacement product and would COLLECT THE WRONG PRODUCT NEXT TIME SHE SAW HER. At no time did the friend say that she'd have to return the product before a replacement was sent out. Had she said so, the OP would have no reason to write the post in the first place. Think about it.

You obviously haven't read the whole of OP's original post .
