There were pictures of her today at the Rome G20 summit in a red dress and red jacket (and I did think her outfit looked rather good).

It does annoy me that women are still being judged by the media on what they are wearing and there is often a breakdown of individual items ie. shoes from. Jacket from etc. If they wear them more than twice they are being ‘frugal’. Why do we still judge women on what they wear. Boris is not judged (apart from his hair)

I don't know why she is there. She is his wife, not a politician, and he is at work so why did she go? Also hope it was not at public expense.

EdenFlower · 31/10/2021 18:25

Men are judged on their appearance too- my DH shared an article only today criticising Boris Johnson for hi 'not well cut suit"

People are interested in what others wear, clothes speak volumes about people- and what is wrong with the media saying where you can but a certain pair of shoes or jacket? I'd like to know if it was something I liked and wanted for myself- it's helpful. Yes, the media make silly statements about the royals' recycling' outfits, but we all take that with a pinch of salt because we know in real life everyone wears things multiple times.

Poetrypatty · 31/10/2021 18:28

Since they didn't even buy their own wallpaper then this seems unlikely.

ShinyHappyPoster · 31/10/2021 18:30

I don't agree on judging women by their clothing but when you're at an event purely as a plus one then there isn't much else to comment on. iirc when it was Mr May the media took great delight in mentioning when he bought a new suit for these type of events ... it's standard 'we feel we need to write something about these people who are only here because of who they married'

StoneofDestiny · 31/10/2021 18:32

I'd judge her on the fact she married a racist arse.

AuntMasha · 31/10/2021 18:33

They kind of deserve each other.

duffeldaisy · 31/10/2021 18:36

I'd judge her solely by her choice in who she wants to spend most of her time with. And in that judgment she really falls short.
All of this is a distraction from important things.

Namechangehereandnow · 31/10/2021 18:41

You’ve literally started a thread about ‘why should women be judged’ … yet in your first statement you’ve also judged her?! Confused🤷🏼‍♀️

TravelLost · 31/10/2021 18:47

BJ is judged in his look and how shabby he is. No one is ever going down to what brand he is wearing or how many times he has worn that specific suit.
That’s where the difference is.

(Plus tbh he is probably one of the few men who ARE judged in his appearance, basically because he is always looking scruffy. Other politicians aren’t)

I judge him on being dishonest and incompetent.

didn't his pole-dancing IT trainer get a free ride at the taxpayer's expense?

why should his current wife be treated less generously?

duffeldaisy · 31/10/2021 18:53

He purposely makes his looks scruffy. That way journalists and many of the public talk about that, rather than question his lies or inconsistencies. It's not funny, it's quite a sinister thing going on.

Practicebeingpatient · 31/10/2021 18:57

You post a thread on social media where the very first sentence contains your opinion of her appearance and then say the media shouldn't be judging women by their appearance. Surely you see the double standard there?

SusieBob · 31/10/2021 19:00

I judge the fuck out of Boris. The leader of the UK can't buy a suit which fits, can't stand up straight and can't brush his hear.

He's a fucking embarrassment. And I don't believe people who claim it's all an act or whatever, I just think he really is that fucking useless.

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 31/10/2021 19:12

Clothes meh 🤷‍♀️, but I think they’re a very odd couple, very odd indeed. I’ve got a bet on with myself that they have more children after this current pregnancy, they’ll continue to live high on the hog while pretending to care about the environment, animals and whatnot. Their hypocrisy is so overt that it adds to the general air of oddness about them. I think they’re quite scary actually.

MissLC · 31/10/2021 19:18

I liked Carrie Johnson's outfit too I'm disappointed to say. (Just because you're right in that it shouldn't be about that)
It annoys me that there are loads of stories about 'Rebel Wilson showing off her weight loss'... no, she's been photographed going about her day like she did before the weight loss Angry

GreenLunchBox · 31/10/2021 19:19

@limitedperiodonly

The latest wife and baby mama of our idle Prime Minister looks like Miss Jones from Rising Damp no matter what she is wearing.
I had to Google to see who you meant but omg, you are so right 🤭🙈🤣

Jesus i think her dress sense is the least of her worries

i wish it was the least of ours.

True

tttigress · 31/10/2021 19:31

I can't help feeling Johnson was the only one in the country who enjoyed his lockdown haircut.

As for his suits, it's almost as if he goes out of his way to look bad.

there is disagreement whether he is a clever man playing the part of an idiot; an idiot playing the part of a clever man, or an idiot playing the part of an idiot.
Noeuf · 31/10/2021 20:31

@PigletJohn you omit my preferred option - an idiot playing the part of a clever man playing an idiot Grin
