There were pictures of her today at the Rome G20 summit in a red dress and red jacket (and I did think her outfit looked rather good).

It does annoy me that women are still being judged by the media on what they are wearing and there is often a breakdown of individual items ie. shoes from. Jacket from etc. If they wear them more than twice they are being ‘frugal’. Why do we still judge women on what they wear. Boris is not judged (apart from his hair)

We are apparently at the last chance saloon for the climate and johnsons is producing kids at an alarming rate. He’s not helping the situation. But yes I agree with you about the focus on clothes and appearance of women in the public eye. It never seems to get any better either (the focus). It’s reductive, sexist and irrelevant. I did notice Boris Johnson had brushed hair in one picture which is alarming.

ChocolateGingers · 31/10/2021 17:48

People have judged men too.
Michael Foot was a scruff as was Corbyn.

All I'd say is that at every key even where she has been since marrying BJ, she has worn red. In Cornwall, at the Tory conference and now. She clearly wants to be noticed.

seb342 · 31/10/2021 17:50

I thought the emphasis on her attire was because she had hired the dress and was promoting eco friendly ways to dress and recycle clothes?

ChocolateGingers · 31/10/2021 17:50

He supposedly has 8 children.

4 with his ex wife, 2 (almost) with Carrie, one definite love child and another love child who is rumoured to exist. And that's not counting the women(at least 1) who have had abortions after sex with him.

SwedishEdith · 31/10/2021 17:51

I think she'd worn a Zara jacket for the 2nd time so 'eco'.

ancientgran · 31/10/2021 17:52

I think Johnson is judged on his appearance, everyone I know think he is an embarrassment to the country, for his clothes as well as other slightly more important things.

Maybe she secretly wants to be part of the Labour party so sports their colour. Wouldn't that be fun if she "came out" as a socialist.

The latest wife and baby mama of our idle Prime Minister looks like Miss Jones from Rising Damp no matter what she is wearing.

MercyBooth · 31/10/2021 17:56

This forum is packed with posters judging Boris on his looks

The man who brushes his hair with a balloon.

Not to mention William Hague who couldn't get elected as he was bald. I remember reading about his lack of hair being a real issue.

Total madness.

I wondered how he did it.

She does!Grin

I dunno, I think your looking too deep into this.
Isn’t it because the men always just wear a plain boring suit? If they wore patterned or even a red outfit I’m sure it would be commented on.
I just think woman’s outfits are more commentable.

DismantledKing · 31/10/2021 18:00

Look at the state of him. He looks like Fred Scuttle.

Women do have a harder time of it.

My DH pulled on a suit, tie and white or blue shirt for decades to go to work.

I would umm and aaahh every night over what to wear.

All men need do is find a suit that fits well and BJ can't even do that!

Scout2016 · 31/10/2021 18:03

I might be being slow but is she wearing red because of this campaign? These protesters were at train station today.

Wouldn't it be great actually if we had a woman PM and her husband wore colourful outfits, maybe like a Lawrence Llewelyn-Bowen and then he was on the front of the papers all the time. But that still wouldn't happen. She is the 'eye candy.' Appeals to a certain type of man who would like his own younger dolly and thinks the PM is playing a blinder.

True, but then you have high-powered women like Nicola Sturgeon and Angela Merkel who have developed a kind of work 'uniform' not that different to what men wear. You don't often hear people commenting about their outfits.
Poetrypatty · 31/10/2021 18:05

Also it's quite arrogant of the PM to think he's a great big laugh doing his Benny Hill pose and that's what the country wants in terms of a statesman to represent us.

girlmom21 · 31/10/2021 18:06

Why have you started a thread stating your opinion on her appearance to say that it's in bad taste to discuss womens appearances?

Scout2016 · 31/10/2021 18:10

You have remined me of this presenter who wore same thing everyday to see if anyone noticed

Noeuf · 31/10/2021 18:13

@VladmirsPoutine it’s infuriating- all the 4 by 4 jokes etc about Ulrika Jonson and Jordan who are surely not meant to be role models anyway and yet this man is elected leader. It’s embarrassing.

HeddaGarbled · 31/10/2021 18:13

It irritates me more that she’s there at all (and gets to live in two grace and favour homes) simply because she happened to be shagging a serial adulterer at the point at which his wife decided she’d had enough.

I agree that part of it is just that there isn’t anything to say about a black suit. But that doesn’t excuse the focus on appearance when there should be a focus on what the woman is saying, or her policies etc. But Carrie Johnson isn’t an example of this, she’s not a politician, her views aren’t being overlooked because people are commenting on her red jacket instead. I don’t feel like many people judge her on her appearance anyway, they may have an opinion on a particular outfit but I don’t think it contributes to an overall idea of her. I don’t have a particularly strong view on her, I judge her poorly for her choice of husband, I think her brave for going to the police about Worboys. What she wears doesn’t change either of those, and beyond that, I don’t know anything about her.
