May seem like a stupid question. We've never really done anything but we have DS now. Will people be out tonight as it's not a school night, or tomorrow the actual date of Halloween. DH and I can't agree.

YABU today
YANBU tomorrow

its tomorow but a lot of people will celebrate tonight

Cuntness · 30/10/2021 15:56

Only on the actual date. Even if it's a school night.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 30/10/2021 15:56

wildthingsinthenight · 30/10/2021 15:56

People will be out today and tmrw I think

TeenMinusTests · 30/10/2021 15:56

Tomorrow! You don't move halloween just because it is inconvenient.

hellcatspangle · 30/10/2021 15:57

Bloody hope nobody comes tonight as I haven't bought anything to give out

WallaceinAnderland · 30/10/2021 15:57

I won't be answering the door to trick or treaters today. Halloween is tomorrow.

WormYourHonour · 30/10/2021 15:57

It's the 31st.

But this year people seem to be having a whole weekend of it. Loads of parties and piss ups around near me. 'making up for last year' apparently.

HoldingTheDoor · 30/10/2021 15:58

Tomorrow. It's celebrated on the 31st whether it falls on a Sunday or not.(Unless you're in Kilmarnock, because for some reason they celebrate it on the last Friday of the month.)

TenThousandSpoons · 30/10/2021 15:59

People might have a party/celebrate today but trick or treating definitely only on the 31st round here. Having said that, I do have sweets in a bowl ready by my door so if little ones were trick or treating a day early I would give them sweets. My own dc will go out tomorrow though.

Belledan1 · 30/10/2021 15:59

Clocks go back so it will be dark early so people will do tomorrow even if school as can go out tea time I think.

Whinge · 30/10/2021 16:00

Same here. I won't even decorate until tomorrow as I just know if I decorate today some bugger is going knock tonight and say but you have decorations up 🙄

I'm half tempted to give anyone who knocks tonight a bloody calendar.

CaptainMerica · 30/10/2021 16:01

I thought there was a thing where if it fell on a Sunday, you moved it to the Saturday? Something church related, maybe?

Belledan1 · 30/10/2021 16:05

I dont get too many by me as a bit out if the way but I have tin of celebrations just in case. Told family if no one comes going to put them away for Christmas. They are hoping someone comes so they are opened!

PuzzledObserver · 30/10/2021 16:06

We had trick or treaters at our door last Friday (22nd). Teenagers, in ordinary clothes. Yeah, right.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 30/10/2021 16:07

Parties probably tonight
Trick or Treating tomorrow.

VickyEadieofThigh · 30/10/2021 16:08

Most of this month for some people round here, given the way they've had their houses festooned since early October.

I recall some teenagers turning up at my house a few years ago on some random night in the last week of October - no fancy dress or anything, just said "Trick or Treat" and held out their hands. I went into secondary teacher mode and and affected total ignorance, asking questions which led them to the eventual conclusion that Halloween is on October 31st and wasn't an excuse for teenage boys to go asking for cash in the week leading up to it.

I don't think any churches celebrate Halloween.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 30/10/2021 16:09

Parties can be around Halloween. Trick or treating is always only ever on the 31st.

SirensofTitan · 30/10/2021 16:10

If by out you mean actuall knocking on doors trick or treating you can only do that on the 31st. If you mean having halloween parties but no door knocking you can do that on any day but I can't imagine anyone doing it after the 31st. Halloween is a fixed date.

Yes, this.

Why on earth would people think that they can unilaterally change the date of a well known holiday and turn up at people's houses and expect sweets?

No-one will be getting anything from us tonight, we haven't even carved our pumpkins yet!

Appliancedesparation · 30/10/2021 16:12

Tomorrow for trick or treating, I won't be answering my door tonight.

Oblomov21 · 30/10/2021 16:12

Tomorrow for trick and treating.
I am going to a Halloween 🎃 party tonight.
