May seem like a stupid question. We've never really done anything but we have DS now. Will people be out tonight as it's not a school night, or tomorrow the actual date of Halloween. DH and I can't agree.

YABU today
YANBU tomorrow

The 31st - YANBU!

stingofthebutterfly · 30/10/2021 17:25

31st only. Most people would ignore people knocking on the door tonight. Doesn't matter if it's a school night because nobody is ever out after about 7:30pm round here.

SpiceRat · 30/10/2021 17:33

@Chocolatewheatos

Thank you all!

Also, quick follow up... what time is halloween?

Halloween doesn’t have a time it’s a day! It’s the 31st. You can do whatever Halloween activity you have planned whenever you want tbh unless you’re talking about trick or treating which is after dark, usually around 6pm I would say, we don’t get any round here. And please ONLY knock on doors that have decorations up.

If you’re talking adults Halloween any weekend day (Friday/Saturday/Sunday) or even the week leading up to it if you’re a student, maximum drinking time.

DramaLlllama · 30/10/2021 17:36

Sunday, no questions. Even though I have pumpkins, if anyone turns up trick or treating tonight they with get nothing.

MazIsWin22 · 30/10/2021 17:47

Someone told me that people don't do trick or treating on a Sunday, I thought they were kidding but a quick google search agreed with them! I think people going out to events/parties will be tonight but trick or treaters will be tomorrow

Comefromaway · 30/10/2021 18:23

On a Sunday I’d expect truck or treaters from whenever it starts to get dark (probably 5pm onwards). When it falls in the week people tend to start about 6pm to give others time to get home from work.

I have no intention of adding more crap to landfill by putting up Halloween decorations, that a relatively new phenomenon, driven by corporate greed. The rule has always been round our way to switch on your outside light if you are happy to receive guisers.

By decorations I understood a jack o'lantern, which obviously goes in compost rather than landfill. Growing up we only knocked on doors with a pumpkin out. We had a pumpkin out today and then brought it in when we ran out of sweets.

We had no decorations, had our outside light on and had loads of visitors. No need to feed the corporate beast.

MerryPumpkinmas · 01/11/2021 15:22

We don't have an outside light, unless you count the candle in the pumpkin Halloween Wink

Laiste · 01/11/2021 15:33

3 different sized pumpkins carved out with a tea light in each. 2 in a window and one on the drive.

Dec's don't have to mean corporate beast feeding Hmm

We actually fry the pumpkin seeds in salt and a bit of butter, and use some of the flesh in a pie. The rest will go in the compost tomorrow Halo

Laiste · 01/11/2021 15:34

And just to put the icing on the cake - DD grew her own (white) pumpkin this year Grin
