To ask for your cleaning routines?

I'm planning on doing an intense clean of the house tomorrow in prep for some guests arriving this weekend. However, I fucking hate cleaning and want to make it as efficient as possible with the least effort Grin

Do any of you have established routines when trying to tackle a whole house? Do you do it by room or by chore? What order do you do it all in?!

Sorry for the mundane thread... Any tips for making it as least gruesome as possible, I will be a very happy lady.

If I'm doing a deep clean I get some good music on, go around and spray the fuck out of everything and let that work. Get a black bag, go through each room chucking out. Then get a laundry basket, go round downstairs finding things to go upstairs, then reverse.
Then clean the pre sprayed bathrooms, clean the floors then mirrors. Whilst I've got the window cleaner out I'll do all windows.
Then kitchen, dusting, downstairs floors.
With loads of fag breaks and cold drinks to get me through Smile

FangsForTheMemory · 28/10/2021 21:26

I tend to do it room by room, but emptying bins and cleaning windows, I do as a separate job.

Ilovepearjuice · 28/10/2021 21:39

Great advice so far... Thanks guys!

Music, Audio book or a Podcast are ESSENTIAL!
It does not happen very often that I have to do the whole house at once but when it happens this is my plan:

  1. Grab a Black trash bag and go room by room. Remove all trash as needed.
  2. tidy up room by room, put everything back where it belongs
  3. grab the hoveer and remove all dust, room by room, top to bottom
  4. Grab all cleaning and clean all appliances like bathroom and Kitchen
  5. mop all Floors
  6. you need a coffee now Grin

Great question.
I’m not very efficient but would like to be.

I tend to tidy the rooms first, putting things away. Then do each room - dust/polish/hoover etc. I may try task a time next time as it sounds more efficient.

StarfishDish · 28/10/2021 21:52

I usually do:

  • 30 minutes cleaning
  • An episode of Eastenders.
  • 30 minutes cleaning.
  • An epidode of something else.

And continue Smile

firstimemamma · 28/10/2021 22:00

Monday - bathroom
Tuesday - whole of downstairs (front door area and kitchen mopping, hoover living room, dust tv stand, clean kitchen)
Weds - I have a list of jobs which I do on rotation e.g clean fridge.
Thursday - rest.
Friday - clean upstairs / hoover stairs and upstairs.

That's the basics & I do it while ds is at pre-school. There's other stuff I do e.g bathroom towels get changed on Monday and Thursday.

Place marking with interest as I am very much a surface cleaner. I like it tidy too but my cupboards etc are a mess and never get round to cleaning behind things.

Atalune · 28/10/2021 22:03

First I tidy-
Open all the windows
Make beds
Put away any laundry
Stick a laundry load on
Put everything back in their right places

Then
I put bleach round the rims of the loos
Vacuum top to bottom
Clean the bathrooms and sinks
Clean the loos
Steam mop bathroom floors

Window clean
Polish up any wooden furniture
Fluff up sofa cushions
Steam mop hard floors

Light a candle

What's a cleaning routine?

NoHeavenNoMore · 28/10/2021 22:07

Look up TOMM (the organised mum method). I discovered this a few months ago and it has been revolutionary! Especially now I have an 8 week old baby. House always feels clean and tidy

Atalune · 28/10/2021 22:08

I do a deep clean of my fridge fortnightly just before the big shop.

Take good out. Clean shelves. Replace food.

I clear cupboards and drawers one by one as and when I have 10 mins. Quick satisfying job. And very easy to keep on top of once you have a system in place.

Ilovepearjuice · 28/10/2021 22:15

You've all delivered - I promise to update you as I go along tomorrow, to keep this thread as mundane as possible! No Mrs Hinch in sight!

Nothing for weeks then go absolutely mental. Works for me.

nixso29 · 28/10/2021 22:25

My tried and tested method is as follows: wait until day before guests are due, stealth clean like a mad woman. I absolutely detest cleaning and am considering investing in a regualar cleaner!

mountbattenbergcake · 28/10/2021 22:26

Make bed
Throw rubbish in bin
Dust surfaces
Put things on bed to clear room for vacuuming and then vacuum
Vacuum upstairs rooms/passage
Vacuum stairs
Once downstairs, tidy living room
Dust surfaces
Vacuum rug
Put things on sofa to clear room for sweeping
Sweep up dust from floors in living room, dining room and kitchen
Mop floors with soapy hot water
Leave to dry

Update:

It's been two hours. I've washed up, sorted kitchen cupboards and fridge. Wiped all surfaces including cupboards. Descaled draining board. Tried the magical trick with a ball of kitchen foil and white vinegar. It was shit. Wiped kitchen windows. Will hoover and do floors after I've done the whole of the downstairs.

I've just sorted the "cupboard of doom"... Ie place under the stairs where I chuck random crap. Told off DH for hoarding duplicate kitchen equipment... Until he dragged out about 15 bags of crap in said cupboard of doom. Smugly exclaimed "so I'm the hoarder?! Busted....

Bathroom next!

Ilovepearjuice · 29/10/2021 11:22

Does anyone else have a cupboard of doom?

Downloading aydio books really helps me . That and a tidy of bins etc and windows open first.
