To ask for your cleaning routines?

I'm planning on doing an intense clean of the house tomorrow in prep for some guests arriving this weekend. However, I fucking hate cleaning and want to make it as efficient as possible with the least effort Grin

Do any of you have established routines when trying to tackle a whole house? Do you do it by room or by chore? What order do you do it all in?!

Sorry for the mundane thread... Any tips for making it as least gruesome as possible, I will be a very happy lady.

We only moved into our house in February but are definitely getting there cupboard-of-doomwise. Definitely have cupboards I get a stressed feeling thinking about so swiftly ignore- with some gavin and stacey or the like Grin

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 29/10/2021 13:50

I don't have a cleaning routine.
it's more like putting out fires

Liverbird77 · 29/10/2021 15:05

A good idea, if you can face it, is to declutter the day before the clean. It makes it all run more smoothly.

@Ilovepearjuice

Does anyone else have a cupboard of doom?
I'll raise you a whole house of doom!
Liverbird77 · 30/10/2021 07:32

I have a wardrobe of doom in the spare room. It's organised but I need to chuck some stuff out. I can never face it.

Belledan1 · 30/10/2021 07:39

Well done. Yes I do and a drawer of doom. DH moans about them as cant find stuff and does tidy it every so often but as I see it if him and DC didnt leave stuff lying about and put it back properly or just destroy post etc that is not needed I wouldn't need to keep putting stuff in them when constantly tidying. Another messy cupboard is the sandwich box, plastic jugs and any kitchen crap I dont use but may use!

Moomarre · 30/10/2021 07:52

@mountbattenbergcake @Atalune do you do all that every day?

mountbattenbergcake · 30/10/2021 07:53

Good God know!

Once every two weeks at most.

mountbattenbergcake · 30/10/2021 07:53

Know?! No.

Room by room, gives you a sense of achievement. Top to bottom.
Tidy, dust, clean surfaces, hoover, wash/steam clean floors.
I tend to fill the washing with a load the night before so it's ready to go first thing. Kitchen always gets done in the evening. Hoovering done first thing. The beds get made as soon as we're out of them, a messy bed makes a room look 10x worse.

Get your music on. I set a timer for each room. You might go over if it's a big job but it makes you work more productively.

Moomarre · 30/10/2021 08:21

@mountbattenbergcake phew!

Moomarre · 30/10/2021 08:28

I have things I do every day
Making beds, laundry, checking sinks are clean, hoovering downstairs, dishes, wiping kitchen sides, tidying toys etc

Then in theory I work round the house doing a bit every day so every room gets cleaned once a week. But it doesn’t always happen.

123sunny456 · 30/10/2021 08:58

I usually get everyone in the house involved - until they go into hiding 😂😂

Dust and hoover each room every other week, tidying as I go. The kids hate when I tell them their rooms have to be 'Mummy tidy'!
Bathrooms get cleaned every week
Bins emptied
Dishwasher filter is cleaned out once a week
Front and back porch are wiped down every week
Kitchen - surfaces, hob, while I'm cooking dinner.

Things like the fridge and oven every couple of months.

I've got a brush gtech hoover thing in the kitchen which I use for crumbs and I couldn't live with out my cordless vacuum.

mumda · 30/10/2021 09:31

I sometimes get the urge to clean late at night. But it's rude to disturb the neighbours vaccuming isn't it?

Just aiming to pick something up and put it away every time you go into a room is supposed to help.

Kerplunkk · 30/10/2021 09:36

For the washing and kids toys….I Chuck them all in a bag for life (or more likely an IKEA bag), clean the rest of the room and then sort the bag at the end.

Don’t forgot to open all your windows
Nothing beats getting some fresh air through the house
