This is my first Halloween in a house so the first time trick or treaters will knock. I'm excited but don't know what to get or how much.
Also would a bowl of satsumas be naff? or cute 😍

I'm so excited this is our first Halloween 🎃 where it really feels like it!

I’ve just bought a multipack of lollies and a multipack of swizzles sweets. I made sure to get stuff that was vegan/gelatine free as we have a lot of Muslim kids in the area and I didn’t want them to miss out.

Willtheymakemegoonthemeds · 27/10/2021 12:20

Haha baked beans you and me are one and the same

in fact I'm annoyed that my daughter has a better witches dress than me! we are using our moving boxes to decorate the windows at the minute but id love some proper outside decorations 😀

“I hadn’t even thought about vegan...”

Vegan sweets/treats are really easy, skittles, most swizzles sweets (they label vegan, basically everything except drumsticks), packs of mini oreos (they’ve brought out ‘spooky packs’ for Halloween) etc. Every supermarket has a Halloween section at the minute so just go and grab whatever is there but I recommend you head there soon because they are shrinking rapidly the closer Halloween gets!

Thefaceofboe · 27/10/2021 12:22

Satsumas Grin just get a box of them mixed sweets from the supermarket

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 27/10/2021 12:23

We are one of the known Halloween houses so we usually get inundated with last year being the exception. Not sure if it will be completely back to normal this year or not so we've just bought our normal which is 5 of the big multipack party bags of haribo/lollies/fun size Mars bars. We also have some tins of miniature heroes which are designated for Xmas gifts but can be broken into if we have a sweet shortage situation.

Any leftovers will go into school and clubs with DD or I'lol take them into the office for the people at work.

HelplessProcrastinator · 27/10/2021 12:25

The cheapest individually wrapped gelatine free sweets I can find. We get through loads. We decorate the house and have pumpkins but I don't overthink what we hand out. It's all sugar. local co-op usually has Swizzles tubs on offer in October.

Willtheymakemegoonthemeds · 27/10/2021 12:25

@Itwasgoodwhileitlasted

I always chuck unwrapped sweets Blush
don't worry the kids scoff those first before their mams can take them 😉

I usually get multi packs of treat size bars and bags of haribo etc. And some lollies and chews. Empty the lot into my cauldron and let them have at it 😂

Yogagrandmum · 27/10/2021 12:27

Nothing….

toconclude · 27/10/2021 12:29

@SoniaFouler

Get some sweets in as well. Don’t be the Fruit Only house.
Why not? Sugar is not a definition of fun.
Hathertonhariden · 27/10/2021 12:29

If you're worried about running out only have pumpkins on display while you have sweets available and get the children to ring the bell so you can control how much they take. If you leave a bowl out you run the risk of a child scooping up loads.

shouldistop · 27/10/2021 12:30

Celebrations and fun sized wrapped chocolate bars. Mini haribo bags, maoam stripes.

Topbird29 · 27/10/2021 12:31

We've got little bags of haribo to give out- £4 for a box of 50 bags in tesco. They tend to be a safe bet.

hiredandsqueak · 27/10/2021 12:31

Nothing, I put up a sign "No trick or treaters, snappy dog lives here" Dog would be better described as yappy but seems to act as a deterrent.

RampantIvy · 27/10/2021 12:32

Please don't get cheap plastic tat toys to add to the plastic trash mountain.

MsSquiz · 27/10/2021 12:32

We do the fun size bars of chocolate, mini packs of haribo, individually wrapped lollies & mini packs of skittles

Willtheymakemegoonthemeds · 27/10/2021 12:35

I've been looking for an out for my stash for ages. Charity shops won't take. don't mind selling though :-/ Could be a bit of fun

We do fun sized treats, usually go through about two bags, but I think it’ll be busy this year.

I have done satsumas coloured in like jack-o-lanterns previously and they all went. They were quite cute.

Starcaller · 27/10/2021 12:36

We just get a couple of tubs of Heroes and a tub of the Swizzles sweet and stick them in a big bowl.

Willtheymakemegoonthemeds · 27/10/2021 12:39

My kids want us to make toffee apples but I don't know if I could manage that. Have an apple tree in the back garden that could do with sharing out

Why not? Sugar is not a definition of fun.

I don’t recall saying it was.

TheKeatingFive · 27/10/2021 13:32

I dole out fun size chocolate bars, usually the cadbury multipack. My suspicion however is that haribo and haribo knockoffs are more highly prized. However they get plenty of those, so I'm not too bothered Grin

One year I opened the door to some very sweet little goblins and didn’t have anything to give them so I solemnly offered my dog for them to stroke. They were delighted and went off happily.

I now remember to leave the lights switched off. Grin

Peace43 · 27/10/2021 13:52

Chocolate is generally much appreciated in comparison to sweets. I tend to buy a box of quality street and a pack of gummy sweets. When you run out blow out your pumpkin and turn the lights out. We only knock on brightly lit houses with pumpkins.

TuftyMarmoset · 27/10/2021 13:55

Sugar is not a definition of fun

No, but it is trick or treating, and a satsuma isn’t much of a treat!
