Hate my haircut and colour, any advice?

I’ve gone between short and long hair for years, this is the shortest I’ve had it but I really dislike it.
It just looks like a mushroom, very boyish and I don’t think it suits me at all.
Naturally dark brown hair but put some blonde highlights in myself as can’t afford the salon atm, however it’s just gone an awful brassy colour, so thinking of dying it red.

I had it cut like this early September and had a very small trim last week, but otherwise feel like it’s hardly grown. Think short hair can look amazing but I feel so unattractive with this cut.

I had taken a picture of Frankie Bridge when she had a very short cut, but it’s nothing like it

First of all, I am sorry of you are not feeling good about yourself, that's important. But I wanted to say that your colouring and bone structure, wow! When your hair is grown, you should wear it up
I would kill for your jawline.

Romantique · 26/10/2021 21:39

Thank you, that’s really kind of you !

I think grow it and suffer with an aliice band type arrangement for a good few months. Add extra blusher and a bit of highlighter and even if you don't like it, it will suit you.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 26/10/2021 21:40

Get some products in it to lift the hair from your scalp. I’d be inclined to play with colour but that’s me - currently have red hair.

Roominmyhouse · 26/10/2021 21:41

Can you try drying it with more volume and using some products to add texture? It doesn’t look like the greatest shape but the way it’s dried so flat doesn’t help.

BlueSuffragette · 26/10/2021 21:41

Perhaps you could try and add some gel type products to spike it up a bit to add some more texture. Perhaps you think it is a bit flat? Short hair can be great, you just need to try out some different ways of styling it. Dying it a brighter red would make it a bit more edgy too. Good luck xx

Pinkstegosaurus · 26/10/2021 21:42

A strong deep red would look brilliant! Can you texture it a bit more and play around with it? Some good hair accessories - head bands, clips etc would also look great. Do you have pierced ears? Could you wear some bold statementy earrings for a going out feel? I’d punk it up a bit, make it red, an ear cuff here, a bit of bold lipstick there, could be fun and make you enjoy it a bit more until it grows to a length you’re happier with.

shakingmytambourineatyou · 26/10/2021 21:42

Its fine and in about 3 weeks' time, it'll be softer and look lovely.

Bluntness100 · 26/10/2021 21:43

Honestly I think it’s quite harsh for your face shape, I’d advocate growing it out a bit, the colour is lovely though,

DogCatRabbit · 26/10/2021 21:43

It's a nice warm colour but is very fine and I can see that you feel it's a bit flat. Ask your hairdresser for some advice on products to give it bit of lift / bounce

MissMoiselle · 26/10/2021 21:43

I like the colour and the cut! Have you tried blue or purple shampoo for your highlights? It really helped with mine. Can you style it with either a simple alice headband or maybe use a bit of wax to give it some texture? It's what I do whenever I need to get used to a new haircut. Also, don't know if you wear make-up but if you try a natural smoky eye or some cheek tint, it'll completely change your look. Just take your time to experiment in front of the mirror, hope you'll grow to like it!

Romantique · 26/10/2021 21:43

I will try different styling products and volume definitely. It’s just so short on the sides. The problem is I cycle and wear a helmet every day which doesn’t help lol, but thank you for the suggestions I will try them

HTH1 · 26/10/2021 21:43

I think the colour is fine, it’s just that it has been cut too short and lacks volume. Perhaps just use some volumising products and just play the waiting game for it to grow out.

KarmaStar · 26/10/2021 21:44

Red would look good.
Sorry you don't like it but it does look good on you.
As it's Autumn wear some nice hats?
A wig?
Can you have those clip in hair things?
It will soon grow.

Romantique · 26/10/2021 21:44

Wow didn’t expect all these replies so quickly, thanks so much. I don’t usually wear make up but I will experiment with some. Thanks for the kind comments

I think a red tone would suit.
I would ruffle it up more with hair products, and have a good play around with it.
Your face shape can definitely take the very short style.

Hankunamatata · 26/10/2021 21:44

It needs styling products and lifted

Romantique · 26/10/2021 21:45

My hair is very fine but I have a lot of hair, however I think on this occasion it hasn’t been thinned out enough

OP posts:
ChrissyPlummer · 26/10/2021 21:45

I agree, it needs more ‘lift’ at the roots. I just bought VO5 instant volume powder, it’s about £4 in Boots and you only need a tiny amount. My hairdresser uses American Crew but that’s £££ and this does the exact same thing.

Hankunamatata · 26/10/2021 21:45

You can pop some product into it when you get to work.

Hankunamatata · 26/10/2021 21:47

Friend uses got2be powder.

HelloDulling · 26/10/2021 21:47

Well, I like it, and if you've had it cut twice in what? 6? 7? weeks, you cannot be that surprising it's still short. If you really don't like it, you are going to have to grit your teeth and get past the v awkward growing out stage.

Hankunamatata · 26/10/2021 21:47

Make a statement of it by going bold red but you probably need load highlights through it to get a statement red

Romantique · 26/10/2021 21:49

I mainly had the neck area trimmed as it was growing some sort of a tail, had nothing off the sides. There are always wigs I guess. But I’ll try to give it another month or so, thanks for all the help
