To want to go out-out at 41?

PleaseGoDontGoAgain · 24/10/2021 22:29

Had the kid at 19 and just as I started wanting to go out clubbing again boom adult life happened, then a shitty relationship and after 2 more kids here I am at 41 and I haven't been to a nightclub or even a pub at night-time since 2009.

I am desperate to go out for a dance in a boozy, loud, crowded room and then stagger about outside for a bit chatting shit to people I don't know before falling into a taxi.

I remember there being older women about when I was clubbing but I'm told Women in their Forties now choose to sit in wine bars??

Please fill me in if you have been clubbing in the last 5 years...am I still allowed to get drunk and dance in public at 41?

YABU - Don't upset the young'uns by being old in the same room as them.
YANBU - Go out get drunk and dance before arthritis gets you.

HumbugWhale · 24/10/2021 22:35

I'm 43 can I come?

Monsterpumpkins · 24/10/2021 22:37

My clubbing days didn't end until I was 43...
You go - feisty and fit and fun at 40 is more than fine op!!

SaltedCaramelIcedLatte · 24/10/2021 22:42

I hope you get the confidence to go to a nightclub and bloody enjoy yourself x

TheCuntessOfMiddlesex · 24/10/2021 22:42

I'm 56 and I stopped when Covid hit, haven't got back into the swing of it yet, don't know if I ever will but go for it, I miss it.

89redballoons · 24/10/2021 23:04

Absolutely YANBU. I'm 35 but have friends 10 years older than me who still go out-out. My MIL and her partner do, and she's nearly 60! It does depend on the night and club - obviously student nights would be weird -but generally I find if I recognise the DJ's or band's name it is fine.

I have just bought tickets for a daytime drum and bass event the weekend before Christmas. I'll be about 25 weeks pregnant by that point so will obviously be sober but I don't care, I really want a good stomp and haven't had one since before the first lockdown. I'm going with a group of friends aged between 33 and 42 Smile

46 here and was gagging for a night out after nearly 2 years of Covid and family stuff going on.

Went out of Friday with with best mate, quite early, with lots of plans. Amazing dinner, fabulous cocktails then the next two bars we'd planned to go to looked a bit shit, so we he headed to an old favourite at the other end of town.

That looked really dead and they wanted £5 quid a head as they had a DJ but not really our kind of music.

We ended up in a pub by 9.30pm, drinking coffee and discussing jigsaw puzzles...home and tucked up with my hot water bottle by 11.

Hope you have better luck!

CrazyAllAroundMe · 24/10/2021 23:10

Can I come ? Same age.. My friends are old (same age but its a mindset thing) I went a few years back but I did feel old I won't lie, the clothing is a lot less dressy it all felt weird but I enjoyed it once I'd gotten over myself Confused. Where I live it's mostly wine bars now

Seasonschange · 24/10/2021 23:14

I am a bit younger than you and haven’t gone in years. When I was going a few years ago I kept feeling really self concious because everyone else was so young! I wasn’t in student places but still it was like no one past 23 went clubbing. I kept telling myself it really didn’t matter but it was hard to shake

Boatonthehorizon · 24/10/2021 23:20

Where do you meet people to go with?
Id love to go but Im 47.

Monsterpumpkins · 24/10/2021 23:22

I am 50 now... Sadly nobody to go out with. Dh def isn't the club type!
Shame.

Butchyrestingface · 24/10/2021 23:23

Michael Gove did it and survived the experience (as did his fellow dancers) and he's a lot older than 41. 🕺

TheCuntessOfMiddlesex · 24/10/2021 23:30

I was raving back in the late 80's all through my pregnancy, went 19 days over my due date, last rave was 3 weeks before I gave birth. All Aciiiiiiid free I hasten to add!

Arbitan · 24/10/2021 23:32

Definitely not unreasonable. I’m 43 and still go out-out, albeit not as frequently as I used to! Great to have a blow out occasionally.

scoobydoo1971 · 24/10/2021 23:32

I get on a train every fortnight and head to London...to dance and drink the night away at various places like Camden town. Me 50, him 56...lots of places in city centres that encourage the older crowd. Have fun, it is the best therapy for me!

musicalfrog · 24/10/2021 23:36

I'll go with you. I feel some of my friends are almost too snobby to really go out and have a good boogie these days. I don't care what anyone thinks, I just want to have fun and enjoy the music, and my body while it can still move!!

Lorw · 24/10/2021 23:46

Totally off topic but your post ‘out-out’ made me smile as it reminds me of Micky Flanagan 😁

My mam is hitting 40 soon and my grandma is 66 and both came out clubbing with me for my hen do. Get yourself out - out OP 😁

PleaseGoDontGoAgain · 24/10/2021 23:49

I'll let you know if I find any! None of my mates are up for it so I'm gonna post on a couple of my local FB groups to see if anyone fancies a drink in a pub and then Ill do my best to drag them out out!!

I went a few times by myself in my 20s. . .but I always knew there would be people my age there!

This is the exact vibe I'm getting, one of my friends suggested I go to the Gym to "get it out your system without causing any scenes for yourself" ?? I wanna get dressed up, pissed and sweaty then wake up with bruises I don't understand and that cringing feeling I used to get...the one where you wince over something you don't remember.

There's a 90s night happening next weekend. Thank you Mumsnet. I'm on it

52 here and I travel all over the world to go clubbing, I follow a dance act called above and beyond and they do the most amazing nights there is a whole community and everyone is included, there are people from 18-80 at the clubs when they are playing. If you love dance music you'd love this.. also clubbing is great It's dark.. and to be honest the generations below us are so accepting nobody cares or notices your age.

HelplessAndLost · 25/10/2021 00:04

I’ll come, I’m 41 and I LOVE going out-out. Everyone I know now just wants to sit in the local pub or go round each other’s houses. I don’t mind that but I want to go proper out sometimes and get mash up.
