Posted in AIBU for traffic.

I’m a volunteer at a local foodbank. We are getting desperately short of donations and run the risk of not being able to help those who need it.
I’ve attached the link to search for what your local foodbank needs (everyone is different as to what stocks they have). If you are doing your shopping tomorrow, it would be very helpful if you could add a couple of items for the foodbank. Thank you

Will do. Thank YOU.

oohmama · 23/10/2021 19:05

I've looked for my local one so will get a few bits next week :)

Zarene · 23/10/2021 19:07

I give a regular cash donation because I guessed that it was more useful to have money to buy exactly what was needed, than food which I might not get exactly right.

Which do you prefer to be donated?

rrhuth · 23/10/2021 19:10

Depressing this is needed more and more but thank you for posting.

A plague on all the Tory MPs for backing the removal of the £20 UC uplift just as things get more expensive. They are dreadful Angry

And a reminder for Ocado shoppers that you can search for “You give we give” for matched donations Smile.

ShinyMe · 23/10/2021 19:19

Thank you for reminding me. It's pay day on monday, so i'll add some bits to my next shop.

Tittyfilarious81 · 23/10/2021 19:19

Our local schools have just done donations for the food bank and all my local shops are asking the public to please help as much as we can , alot of families are really struggling in our area it's really tough 🥺

Monsterpumpkins · 23/10/2021 19:20

Will they take unopened bags of pull ups?

@Monsterpumpkins ours does but it's worth checking with your local 1 if they do

Bigeggsinapackoften · 23/10/2021 19:26

No sorry. Local trussell trust have allied themselves with a very evangelical Christian organisation who use the food bank to recruit through the back door.

I do give to a food bank but not one with those sort of values.

Bigeggsinapackoften · 23/10/2021 19:27

Sorry. Clumsy phrasing.

Locally the Trussell Trust …

Gilead · 23/10/2021 20:00

Morrisons allow you to donate to the local food bank when online shopping.

Sirzy · 23/10/2021 20:01

Thank you.

Pheebs2021 · 23/10/2021 20:01

I pay monthly via standing order but I can afford to increase a little and have. Shockingly I hadn't really thought of it before your post.

DroopyClematis · 23/10/2021 20:03

We don't donate via Trussell Trust, prefer to donate directly.

maybellajo · 23/10/2021 20:19

My local one doesn't say what they need? Where do you find this info please?

Parker231 · 23/10/2021 20:23

www.trusselltrust.org/get-involved/ways-to-give/donate-food/

There is a section on this link where you can enter your town to find out their shortage items

Bigeggsinapackoften · 23/10/2021 20:28

And how do you feel about them allying with evangelical Christian organisations op and deliberately picking on the vulnerable to recruit for their church?

maybellajo · 23/10/2021 20:32

Parker231 · 23/10/2021 20:34

@Bigeggsinapackoften - I’m atheist and where I volunteer there is no mention of any religion. The aim is to try and reduce and eventually eliminate food hunger.

OP posts:
Bigeggsinapackoften · 23/10/2021 20:35

I understand that op. But how do you feel about the group they’re allying with? I donate to a different food bank not the local one because it’s so problematic to me that the Trussell Trust are hitching up to this sort of organisation.

slashlover · 23/10/2021 20:37

Ours doesn't seem to have updated the page in months, but they have a facebook page they update weekly or fortnightly with what they need most.

Parker231 · 23/10/2021 20:39

The site I volunteer at isn’t religious and the only discussions relate to the contents of the food bags and signposting to other organisations who can provide practical help with rent, benefits, employment etc.
I have no issues with volunteering there.
