www.trusselltrust.org/get-involved/ways-to-give/donate-food/

Posted in AIBU for traffic.

I’m a volunteer at a local foodbank. We are getting desperately short of donations and run the risk of not being able to help those who need it.
I’ve attached the link to search for what your local foodbank needs (everyone is different as to what stocks they have). If you are doing your shopping tomorrow, it would be very helpful if you could add a couple of items for the foodbank. Thank you

Op can only speak for where she volunteers if you have an issue with the organisation as a whole I suggest you talk to them

Parker231 · 23/10/2021 20:45

@Bigeggsinapackoften - I started this thread as a reminder to Mn posters to ask that they remember foodbanks when they go shopping. Hopefully this works and foodbanks will benefit this weekend and going forward.
I have responded that I have no concerns with the foodbank I volunteer at. Please don’t derail this thread.

@Bigeggsinapackoften

It again op. With respect. That’s not what I’m asking.
Oh do bog off, you’ve asked your question a number of times and the OP has answered and owes you nothing. If you don’t agree with the organisation, don’t donate but it’s unnecessary to badger the OP in this way, it’s pathetic of you.

OP - I already make a regular donation but will up this as I’ve not done so for a while so thank you for the reminder.

I think you should leave the OP be, they're trying to do something about food poverty. They're not the official spokesperson for the organisation.

It must he exhaustion being you @Bigeggsinapackoften

Well done OP. Great reminder to those who can to donate to local food banks.

Previous posters getting upset about links with religious organisations (I don’t know what this is about) will be easily able to find alternative food banks I’m sure.

Bigeggsinapackoften · 23/10/2021 20:50

I do donate elsewhere as I said. I give food and money fwiw. I have a standing order.

Trussell trust allying with the groups they do is hugely problematic.

Bigeggsinapackoften · 23/10/2021 20:51

Well considering I offered to volunteer for the food bank and was refused because I wasn’t of their religion, and the church concerned is homophobic and racist I’m not bothered at all about being me thanks all the same.

Problematic for YOU, not for everyone.

@ILoveAllRainbowsx

I wish Tesco would let you donate to a local food bank when you check out online, but I will make a cash donation now.
I asked them to do this some while back - on twitter. They replied saying great idea - please dm your details and we'll put the idea forward. Why the heck did they need my details to put the idea forward?
JayAlfredPrufrock · 23/10/2021 20:53

I’ve never been asked about my religion or my sexual preferences at the Foodbank 🤔

Bigeggsinapackoften · 23/10/2021 20:53

I was told I could not volunteer unless I was prepared to participate in and take my turn of leading prayer and worship.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 23/10/2021 20:54

Are you sure it was a Foodbank?

Bigeggsinapackoften · 23/10/2021 20:54

Absolutely 100% sure.

You've made your point.
EileenGC · 23/10/2021 20:55

What church is this @Bigeggsinapackoften?

Parker231 · 23/10/2021 20:56

@Bigeggsinapackoften - I have asked once already please don’t detract and derail this thread.
If you want to donate and volunteer elsewhere - brilliant but I am happy with where I volunteer.

We have a church food bank and the "seeded by Trussell" food Bank neither one are heavy on the religion unless you count tea, cups of tea are literally religion in my area

SandysMam · 23/10/2021 20:57

I wish more signage could be put up in the actual aisles in Tesco etc to remind people as they go round to pop something in their trolley to donate. I always forget until I see the basket at the end!

If you have an issue with your local Trussel Trust food bank you can find information about how to complain in the footer of the Trussel Trust website www.trusselltrust.org/
Katjolo · 23/10/2021 20:59

Does your organisation collect from schools?

TheUndeadLovelinessOfDemons · 23/10/2021 21:00

We always do.

Same with all supermarkets. They have the list of what they need at the end after you've finished your shop and forgotten to put anything at all in. It needs to be at the beginning.
Buildingthefuture · 23/10/2021 21:02

Noted. I do the Ocado giving thing but I’ve followed the link and will get on a do a shop for my local food bank this week x
