Have read all the old threads, the woman in Severnake Forest one still scares me to this day and so does the boy in the nightclub one! I need more woo in my life! Please tell me your spooky stories and close encounters - have stayed in 2 supposedly haunted hotels in recent months - didn't know about the tragic history of one of them till after but I did think the place had a weird energy.

Have you looked under the Unexplained topic? Which can be found in Other Stuff.

SoniaFouler · 22/10/2021 14:55

I used to regularly sleep in a haunted mansion that was used as something else when I was younger because my dad worked there. I didn’t know it was haunted until I was much older and he told me things that he’d witnessed there. I also witnessed things: I was in the library and several books fell off the shelves which was a bit creepy but then one launched itself from the shelf straight at me, as though someone had thrown it at me (the bookshelf was a fair distance away from where I was standing). I ran out the room. Another time, I was sleeping one night and stirred awake in the middle of the night but still half asleep and there was an old lady standing by the door looking at me and then evaporated into mist. I was also washing my hands in a sink in one of the toilets and one of the toilets flushed behind a cubicle, and then in the mirror I saw the cubicle door to the flushing toilet open slowly behind me, but there was nobody in there, so it opened by itself. I ran out the room on that occasion too. Oddly, I wasn’t scared staying there, nor thought about mentioning anything to anyone there Confused

Oh yes!! I’m off to a supposedly haunted hotel tomorrow 😩 so need something to give me the willies!

What was the boy in the nightclub story?

The boy in the nightclub was when a poster went for a night out years ago and there was a really angry looking young man in the club. I think she remembered him because he looked so mad.

She went to the same club years later… and that same man was there, in the same clothes, same angry expression but not aged a day

I might be misremembering details but that was the gist!

SoniaFouler · 22/10/2021 15:21

Wait, I’m getting confused… I thought the boy in the nightclub story was something else…unless it was posted on the long running (now defunct) Digital Spy spooky threads. It was similar to @Mindareno except the second time the poster saw the boy, he HAD aged. In fact, wasn’t it something to do with somebody’s dad who had died and that’s who they were looking at? This is going to frustrate me now. Off to investigate.

SoniaFouler · 22/10/2021 15:29

Ok, I’m back, I got confused with the two stories. THIS is the one I got it mixed up with, which was posted on Digital Spy:

Many years ago when I was about 13 my friends and I used to go to a disco in the local town hall on a Saturday night. My best friend and I lived next to each other so we used to go together and call for our other friend on the way to the disco. Her Dad was always there and had always had one sherry too many. He always used to tease us saying ‘don’t you go off with any lads because I’ll be watching you mind’ and things like that. We thought he was funny and didn’t take him seriously.
One night when leaving the disco, my friend Lorraine looked over the road where there was a working mans club and said ‘Oh heck, don’t look now but my Dad is over there hiding in the doorway’ my other friend and I obviously did look over and both saw him. He was sort of leaning against the door frame and looked very, very drunk. We laughed and despite Lorraine’s embarrassment she laughed too.
We, as usual, walked her home and popped into the house to see her Mum and moan about being watched by her Dad. When we walked into the living room we could see there was something wrong and were told by Lorraine’s Grandad that her Dad had died earlier that night from a brain hemorrhage.
Now if only Lorraine had seen her Dad in that doorway I would have said she had imagined the whole thing, but both myself and my other friend saw him as well.
Was it him we saw? I still question it today and its over 40 years ago now.

YANBU! It's nearly Halloween- we definitely need some fresh spooky stories!

Unfortunately I don't have any to tellSad

MissConductUS · 22/10/2021 15:51

Try the podcasts Lore, Haunted Road and American Shadows. They're all beautifully scripted and produced, and have some really excellent woo stories.

DamnUserName21 · 22/10/2021 15:52

You definitely need to read the one about the haunted farmhouse hotel down west (Somerset??) where the OP saw something floating mid-air. Scared the crap out of me!

about 11 years ago me and husband went to york dungeon as we went down the corridor before the hall of mirrors we bith saw an open door and a little girl we bith assumed that a staff member had brought thier child to work and carried on with the tour. A few years later we went on a ghost hunting night after hours in the dungeons and the first thing mentioned in the introduction was that there was suppised to be the ghost of a little girl haunting the building.

As a student I lived in a rambling old Victorian terrace, which had a very odd feel to it. It was the kind of place with creepy dark corners and where you would get sensations of being watched. You could be working on an essay and be aware of general house sounds (steps, voices, etc) only to realise that nobody else has been home all day.

There were many parts of this house that felt unwelcoming, but my bedroom was a calm and comforting place. One day when moving furniture I lifted the corner of the carpet. There were runes carved into the floorboards, and they went all the way round the room. They also went round the door frame. I can only assume someone else was creeped out before me and tried some protection magic.

hazelnutpraline · 22/10/2021 17:06

I had to do some work experience in a clinic that used to be a house (Victorian terrace) and as you walked into the reception the main staircase was directly facing you as you came in the front door. It was one flight, then a small landing, another small flight and the top part had a fire door between it and the upstairs corridor.

I came in in a rush one day as I was late and as I came through the front door I saw someone come down from the landing part and start down the main stairs. They were wearing a long dark coat or cape as I remember it swishing round as they came round the corner part of the stairway. So I stopped to let them walk down, glancing away as I did, but when I looked up there was no one there. They couldn’t have gone back up again as the fire door was really heavy and slammed loudly every time it closed.

I went over to the receptionist and said “I think I’ve just seen a ghost?!” And she, completely unfazed, said “oh yes, it growls at me most mornings!” She then told me that the house had previously been some kind of children’s home and odd things had been known to happen.

On the other side of the house (which always had a horrible feeling about it) was a cupboard in the wall whose door refused to stay shut. The staff would close it every night and in the morning it would be open. They even tried putting something heavy in front of it and they would find that it had moved and the door would be open again. We wondered whether maybe someone used to get locked in there and they couldn’t bear for it to stay closed Sad

DD and I are staying with my DM for a few days. Yesterday DD told me she had dreamt of three children. This morning my DM told me she had dreamt of three children (she hadn’t heard about DD’s dream). Wonder if I’ll dream of them tonight?

Carefultherepercy · 22/10/2021 17:07

"It growls at me every morning"!?!?! 🤯 oh that is so freaky about the cupboard door, I shudder to think what that little cupboard was used for in a victorian children's home
