To ask what dishes you would say are 'pub grub'?

My friend is hoping to take over a pub and wants to keep the menu to fairly traditional, starting with the firm favourites. She asked for some opinions on what these favourites would be.

My initial thinking was:
Fish and chips
Lasagne
Pie and mash
Ploughman's
Roast on Sundays

So, people of Mumsnet, when you think of a proper, traditional British pub, what do you expect to see on the menu?

Sausage and mash
Steak pie
Macaroni cheese
Burgers

Not my type of food really but what I usually see in a pub.

Ham egg and chips.

Beefburgers and chips
Hunter's chicken
Steak

Before I opened the thread I thought ploughman’s.
I wouldn’t bother with the lasagne.

Good burger option.
Good sandwich/ lunchtime options with chips or soup

Gammon of some sort
A salmon dish no one orders

I love a club sandwich and chips. Or burgers, roast on a Sunday. Or veggie options too

Baked potato lunch

Tbh I'd just look at Wetherspoons menu and do variations on that. They know what sells.

Ham, egg and chips.
Soup and a sandwich.
Possibly a curry.
Lamb shank and mash.

Various things in baskets

I'm the one that always orders Lasagne! Bubbling in a piping hot dish with a thick layer of cheese... What's not to love. Especially if it comes with garlic bread! No chips though. I'm not an animal.

Gammon & scampi too. I think pubs need to prioritise good chips!

Nachos are good for people who don't want a proper meal

Proper chips, made with potatoes, not frozen ones.
Homemade pies with various fillings.
Local seasonal veg

Homemade puddings

Definitely macaroni cheese (with chips or garlic bread).
Would also expect a soup of the day served either with bread or as part of a soup/sandwich deal.
If the dessert menu had sticky toffee pudding or chocolate fudge cake I would be very happy!
