Such a silly situation but please help me on this! My boyfriend doesn't see the point in putting the kettle down on the base of the kettle when he's finished with it and I need to see how many other people do this😂

When making a cuppa or using the kettle for whatever you use it for, once you're completely finished with it do you put the kettle back down on the base of the kettle or do you just leave it on the kitchen side?

Whenever we make a bottle for our DD or finish making a cuppa, my boyfriend really struggles with remembering to put the kettle down on the base. He doesn't do it intentionally but I find it so funny and ridiculous at the same time.
You're putting the kettle on the side so why not just put it on the base where it actually goes??

Surely other people don't do this?Grin

This would drive me potty 😂

coffeeandjuice · 16/10/2021 15:35

I can't ever remember to shut a cupboard door. Complete missing link in my brain! I used to get pulled up on it all the time but I think people have given up and just shut them behind me.

I get I do it, and get why it drives people mad!

OldTinHat · 16/10/2021 15:51

I've never not put a kettle 'back where it belongs' ever and have never met anyone else who doesn't?! Why would you not put it back on its base? It would take up twice the room on the worktop if you didn't. And be untidy! I mean, I'm not the most tidy of people but even I would never dream of not putting it back!

Drum roll please...here is my first ever...LTB!! 😂

FangsForTheMemory · 16/10/2021 15:54

I would always put the kettle back on the base. If you don't it's taking up twice as much space, and also the kettle protects the base from splashes.

TumtumTree · 16/10/2021 15:56

I always put the kettle down on its base but my parents never do. I think it dates back to when they had a dodgy kettle that kept switching itself on - they got in the habit of not putting it on the base and have never gone back!

yesterdayisinthepast · 16/10/2021 16:01

Only a few comments so far but thank God it's not only me😂

When I used to say 'can you put the kettle back where it goes what's wrong with you' he'd look me in my eyes dead seriously and say 'how do you know that's where it goes, why can't I just leave it on the side?'
Like are you serious😂 it's so funny I can't even be mad because he's dead serious. It's just so annoying!

He's definitely the type of person that leaves all the cupboard doors open, he sometimes leaves the fridge door open and will leave the oven door open to 'air out.'
Honestly I have to laugh otherwise I'll cry!

@OldTinHat hahaha I couldn't leave him over this🤣 we have a 5 month old and I'm currently pregnant with our second!

Safety issue surely? It has a sticky up bit (lol) that stops it being knocked over when it has hot water in it! Back on the base is best.

Kb2942 · 16/10/2021 16:05

Omg I could have written this myself. Dp always leaves the kettle on the side when he's finished with it - not on the base!! Drives me absolutely potty. It's literally no extra effort to put it on the base in my tiny kitchen. He leaves it on the side like right next to the kettle!!

bloodywhitecat · 16/10/2021 16:05

We don't have an electric kettle now but when we did we both always put it back on the base, your boyfriend is very definitely in the wrong here!

AlphabetStew · 16/10/2021 16:07

I would worry if I put the kettle down on the counter that it could possibly get wet underneath. If you happened to put the kettle down and there was water spilled that you hadn't seen, potentially the water could get into the circuitry of the kettle. I do t know how big a concern this is really though. There are other concerns too, such as counter space.

randomchap · 16/10/2021 16:11

That's really odd, it takes up twice the space it needs if it's not on the base.

maofteens · 16/10/2021 16:20

What? So then you have two things cluttering up the space!
I'm putting in a boiling water tap so non issue in my house, but I've never seen anyone NOT put it back on the base.

Tittyfilarious81 · 16/10/2021 16:21

Back on the base

BingBongToTheMoon · 16/10/2021 16:27

Absolutely 100% on the base.,
He’s an animal lol.

coodawoodashooda · 16/10/2021 16:33

I couldn't put up with that. I also don't think the, 'where it goes, how do you know where it goes...' retort is remotely funny.

OldTinHat · 16/10/2021 16:35

@yesterdayisinthepast Never say never! Just joking btw! Your mission is to find something that irritates him like kettlegate does you - then you're even! 😂😂

RevolvingPivot · 16/10/2021 16:37

Not the same but DH always gets frustrated that I don't fill the kettle. He works away loads so I'm alone a lot and usually I just fill it when I need it.

AlCalavicci · 16/10/2021 16:42

I have a stove top kettle so not a issue for me but i would always put it back on its base if I had a electric one.

My kettle lives on top of my eye level grill ( tiny kitchen ) when its not in use I lost count of the amount of times my DH said where is the kettle ? Its on the fecking grill where it always is !

yesterdayisinthepast · 16/10/2021 16:50

@Kb2942 Isn't it just the strangest thing?! Our dps sound exactly the same. I always think if you're putting it down on the side can't you just put it back on the base?
Why leave it right next to itConfusedGrindrives me up the wall I swear

yesterdayisinthepast · 16/10/2021 16:51

@OldTinHat I love the term 'kettlegate'🤣 gonna start using that one. And tbh whenever he pulls the blinds down in the living room I pull them right back up😂 drives him crazy so I guess we're both even haha

I couldn't put up with that. I also don't think the, 'where it goes, how do you know where it goes...' retort is remotely funny.
Tbh I can think of much worse things that I couldn't put up with so it rarely bothers me anymore, I just find it so odd

OldTinHat · 16/10/2021 17:01

@yesterdayisinthepast I like the blind attack! (Excuse the pun!) Could you maybe remove the loo roll? Say something like 'oh well a loo roll doesn't have to go back on it's stand?' when he starts shouting from the toilet??! 😂

Marelle · 16/10/2021 17:09

He needs to start putting it on the base for safety reasons. The base needs to be pushed right back on the worktop with the handle towards the wall and the kettle needs to be firmly clicked onto it. That makes it harder for a child to reach and pull over. He can’t continue dumping the kettle where a child could reach it, it’s dangerous and will lead to an accident.

Whenigrowupiwanttobea · 16/10/2021 17:12

Sorry but you must back your bags and baby and go!!! This is nothing more than kitchen equipment abuse. The kettle must be put back on its base and the fridge door must be closed. Otherwise this is unreasonable behaviour. Good luck with baby number 2! Xx
