AIBU- Sockgate. Trainer socks are okay, right?

Sent DS to preschool this morning in Trainer socks and trousers.

DP is adamant that I've dressed him "wrong" and that Trainer socks should ONLY be worn with Shorts, ankle socks at all other times.

So, mumsnet, help me out please-

YABU - You've missed a bit of social sock etiquette and Trainer socks are only for shorts

YANBU- Trainer socks are fine with trousers!

My DD refuses to wear anything other than trainer sock... so they come with shorts, trousers, leggings, even skirts! She is admittedly old enough to generally make up her own mind on such matters...

It's fine. It's a sock. It went on his feet. It served it's purpose.

I'm with your partner, I'm afraid. Proper socks with trousers. It's not something I'd waste a lot of energy thinking about though. A minor issue.

I can see how they might look odd if his trousers are on the short side - but not if they are long enough not to leave ankle showing.

if the trainer socks are the last dry and clean socks it's fine.

IMO, it is the footwear the determines the sock, not the other way around. So I wear trainer socks with trainers, but not boots.

I didn't know about this rule. I dress DS in trainer socks and trousers all the time. Is it weird to not see a bit of sock with trousers?

Why does your preschooler have trainer socks?! At that age it was whatever random tat was clean.

For those saying proper socks only with trousers, what if you're wearing jeans and want to roll them up slightly on a summer's day? Surely then trainer socks are more appropriate? Ankle socks would look properly weird...

I do ankle socks in winter. Trainer socks in summer. Both under jeans. Nice to have the breeze around your ankle when it's warm, nice to have them covered and cosy when it's cold.

Also trainer socks work best with really skinny jeans; you don't want socks reaching up under them.

But to answer @Beaversinjam who gives a fuck! If the child is wearing the socks and not screaming and ripping them off then all is well.

Those of us with autistic kids with sensory processing issues are grateful for the calm application and wearing of ANY socks.

Something making me feel distinctly uneasy about this scenario. Like when men wore brogues with no socks.

My 5 yr old wears trainer socks for school. Dont see the problem?
I wear skinny jeans (rolled up or cropped) with ankle socks and trainers.
