AIBU- Sockgate. Trainer socks are okay, right?

Sent DS to preschool this morning in Trainer socks and trousers.

DP is adamant that I've dressed him "wrong" and that Trainer socks should ONLY be worn with Shorts, ankle socks at all other times.

So, mumsnet, help me out please-

YABU - You've missed a bit of social sock etiquette and Trainer socks are only for shorts

YANBU- Trainer socks are fine with trousers!

If my ankles are showing, and I’m wearing trainers, then trainer socks. If my ankles aren’t showing, then ankle socks.

Well ideally ankle socks as they are more comfortable.

But it doesn’t matter

Such strong opinions about socks.

My bank manager always wore trainer socks, but then he also used to wear a colander on his head to stop people reading his thoughts.
I don't think he works there any more...

Ankle socks with trousers would be most men's choice based on the fact I've never seen anyone male wear trainer socks with trousers.

Picture a man in a suit going to work with trainer socks on, or a secondary school DS, it paints a weird picture.

My DS 15 would refuse point blank to go to School wearing ankle socks. I mean he refuses to own any let alone wear any with School uniform or Jeans for that matter

Depends on length of trousers. I'd let him do the dressing if he's that bothered though

Okay, DS in the offending socks, pictured below. Apparently toddlers don't like staying still for photos

Looks fine to me. His feet and ankles are covered so no draftyness.

Mine all prefer trainer socks to ankle socks.

I don't like trainer socks with jeans because I get draughty ankles. So I'd only wear with shorts etc.
