My husband is on a flight to Scotland as we speak. I am scared of flying and watch my loved ones on flight radar till they land safely. His flight has dropped 10,000 feet in the last 4 minutes.

He's 20 minutes from landing.

Please someone tell me this is normal. He's down from 35k to 22.5k feet!

I'm shitting myself!

Yes that’s normal.

ladymuck111 · 14/10/2021 19:26

I know nothing g about aviation but I'm sure if he's 20 mins away from landing that it's the plane beginning to descend to land.

wallysally · 14/10/2021 19:26

Yes it is normal they are getting ready to land.

WorraLiberty · 14/10/2021 19:27

I have no idea if it's normal but watching the flight like that isn't, and to be honest it's not doing you any good is it?

Go and have a bath or make a hot drink and distract yourself until after he's landed.

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 14/10/2021 19:27

It has to get lower so it can touch the ground Grin chill

MrzClaus · 14/10/2021 19:28

Yes it's normal!!

For your own sanity, is there another way you've found to help the anxiety?

Woahbodyforrrrm · 14/10/2021 19:28

Thank you for replying. I've got myself into a real flap but trying not to let the kids see.

It feels like he only got to cruising altitude a few minutes before!

I've got to go through all this again tomorrow when my mum flies to Sweden to meet my brothers baby for the first time.

I need to try and stop the desire to track them!

Tiredmumno1 · 14/10/2021 19:29

It has to come down quite quickly otherwise they'd never land GrinWink

He will be fine, stop panicking. As others said just distract yourself for half hour.

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 14/10/2021 19:30

This him OP?

It's fine. Zoom out, see all of those planes around the globe. It's like that constantly and pretty much all of them land!

Really worried please help
Crunchymum · 14/10/2021 19:31

Flights too and from Scotland really are just ascent and descent. By the time you are up, you start to come down!!

Woahbodyforrrrm · 14/10/2021 19:31

I used to love flying, bloody loved it. But since I had my first baby, I've become terrified of it.

It's so strange as I am a very rational person and am fortunate not to get anxiety about other things. I just don't get why I'm like it.

I have to read a self-help book in the run up to flying and also take some Valium to get my on the plane without giving off scared vibes to the kids.

My brothers first baby (my only niece) was born earlier this year in Sweden and I so desperately want to see her now we can but it's holding me back.

careerchangeperhaps · 14/10/2021 19:32

It's fine. I regularly fly from Bristol to Edinburgh and by the time we reach the cruising altitude, it's almost time to start the descent.
Perfectly normal for a short flight like this.

Very true that 😅 I just didn't realise they'd start to descend so quickly 🤦🏼‍♀️😂!

Thanks everyone for reassuring me! 💐 I really do appreciate it.

Haha, don't worry. He'll be fine, that plane is looking fabulous Grin

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 14/10/2021 19:35

I'll carry on keeping an eye for you. You go get yourself a stiff drink lass

FannyFifer · 14/10/2021 19:35

Plane doing the loop around of the forth before landing at Edinburgh, totally normal so don't worry. X

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 14/10/2021 19:37

He's going to Aberdeen @FannyFifer 😂

pussycatlickinglollyices · 14/10/2021 19:38

@Woahbodyforrrrm
Don't worry. It looks like a normal approach to me.

FannyFifer · 14/10/2021 19:38

Ah Aberdeen plane not Edinburgh. They go lower & along the coast before landing. He'll nearly be there now.

Notimeforaname · 14/10/2021 19:38

They start to descend about 30 minutes before landing.

littlenickyy61 · 14/10/2021 19:39

Average descent rate is approx. 2500ft per minute so he is well within that range. x

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 14/10/2021 19:39

Love a good flight radar thread Grin

SmellyOldOwls · 14/10/2021 19:40

The plane probably doesn't want to crash into all those other planes circling round Aberdeen there so they're all at different heights.
