Leaving sky tv

Vilanelle · 12/10/2021 22:46

Each month I'm paying over £90! I have a leaving date and every week they ring with a slightly better offer. The last being £58pm

AIBU to think they will keep giving me better offers if I hold off cancelling my leaving them?

Bloody hell, maybe I need to do this. I also pay a painful £90 per month. What did you do, just phone and tell them you were leaving, only to be asked to think about it?

Vilanelle · 12/10/2021 22:52

@AnnieSnap yes I said I couldn't afford it. They offered me a few quid off. Leaving date is the end of the month and I keep getting phone calls! Each time they're giving money off.

My son in law does this regularly and he usually winds up with a better selection of channels or newer equipement or a cheaper contract!
Justrealised · 12/10/2021 23:06

Is that £90 just for the channels or is broadband and phone as well please? I'm just trying to figure out how ours compares. We get the bulk of channels, movies, sports, hd, sky go, broadband and phone for £95.

DustyMaiden · 12/10/2021 23:08

Yes, I pay £42 was £98

JessicaFletcherxx · 12/10/2021 23:09

I tried this, they never offered me any deals, so I left. Turns out most of the stuff I watch is on freeview anyway. Got a better deal on Wi-Fi and don't miss it at all.

Justrealised · 12/10/2021 23:11

Sorry @DustyMaiden yes includes the extras or yes just the channels? I didn't phrase my question very well. Either way that's an amazing drop in price.

Same. Sky is sh!te
Ozanj · 12/10/2021 23:15

We have paid £12 a month for the basic package for nearly 3 years now just by threatening to leave around our end date.

Vilanelle · 12/10/2021 23:25

I get sky signature, kids, Netflix, multiroom and on demand, oh and superfast broadband

Breadstick25 · 12/10/2021 23:28

We threatened to leave (and I really did mean it as most of what we watch is on streaming channels). They offered us a new Sky Q box, the basic package plus Sky Atlantic for £17 per month. Definitely worth asking!

AnnieSnap · 12/10/2021 23:30

So, I need the bottle to actually cancel? I have negotiated a few quid off before, but never quite went that far 😳 Is it one month notice?

AnnieSnap · 12/10/2021 23:31

Just TV, including a second box upstairs, HD and box sets!
Justrealised · 12/10/2021 23:45

We get the box sets/ on demand also and my dh just informed me it's unlimited fibre too. I thought the on demand was included for everyone not something you pay extra for. We don't have an extra box though but I think we pay a lot for the sport package. I'm off to bed now but will get a break down tomorrow. It'll be interesting to compare and see what everyone else pays or what people have managed to get the cost down to. I think we pay more than we should.

I forgot about Netflix. That’s in there too, plus the sports and movie package, including the Liverpool LFC channel as an extra. I wasn’t sure about the box sets.
AlexaShutUp · 13/10/2021 00:03

Virgin does this as well.

It's rather sad that these companies are actually punishing their most loyal customers.

AlexaShutUp · 13/10/2021 00:04

@AnnieSnap, yes, in my experience you actually have to cancel.

Nat6999 · 13/10/2021 00:25

Mine went up to £90 when my contract ended & I rang to cancel (negotiate a new deal) I managed to get it down to £65 for multiroom (2 boxes) everything including all sports channels except kids channels & movies. We still have the old Sky + boxes but will swap over to Sky Q when we finally move to somewhere that we can get WiFi in every room instead of being in a flat that has walls a foot thick that the WiFi won't penetrate. Has anyone seen that Sky are bringing out televisions that have Sky built in soon & you won't need a dish?

MurielSpriggs · 13/10/2021 00:34

I'm completely amazed that Sky costs so much money. I find most of it unwatchable due to adverts. How can it be right to pay so much, but still get channels festooned with advertising.

mobear · 13/10/2021 00:54

I find NowTV much better/ cheaper and there’s no long term commitment.

AnnieSnap · 13/10/2021 01:01

@MurielSpriggs many programmes are available to download the entire series from the time the first episode is aired and they don’t have add breaks in then. Sometimes, weirdly the pop a single ad in there, but mostly not. The movies don’t have ads and of course programmes can be recorded and ads scrolled through.

Vilanelle · 13/10/2021 09:53

@anniesnap yes you have to actually cancel to get the offers x

OP posts:
AnnieSnap · 13/10/2021 09:55

@AlexaShutUp and @Vilanelle I’ll have to be brave then 😮

BrendaBubbles · 13/10/2021 09:58

I was in the same situation and left and now six months later they have offered me back with everything for 18 months for £36/mo.. down from £80 or whatever it was.

bigbeatmanifesto · 13/10/2021 10:04

My tv & broadband package is £40 and then added 7 for Amazon, so in total no more than £50 with Virgin Media, the reason I left sky was the increasing bill for the same package ended up £110 a month and it's just not justifiable when I mostly use streaming platforms now.
