My very lovely assistant accountant is going on maternity leave and I want to get her something nice. Budget of £70-£100

What did you get as a gift that you really liked when you went on leave? Or are vouchers preferable?

I was taken out for tea as my goodbye but we can’t do that for her so trying to think of alternatives.

Do you think she would enjoy an afternoon tea? If so just give her the vouchers for it?

ProfInkly · 12/10/2021 11:46

M&S voucher to buy what I want so got clothes and food.

ChillyB · 12/10/2021 11:46

I was given:
-white company baby grow
-soft rattle toy
-voucher for baby hand/foot prints at local pottery painting place
-bubble bath for me

SallyLovesCheese · 12/10/2021 11:47

A "Nappy cake" which was very useful. DC still uses the towel that came with it.

RonObvious · 12/10/2021 11:47

Might sound odd, but I was given a Le Creuset cast iron casserole dish. I still have it 10 years later, and still love it.

I got baby clothes, John Lewis vouchers & bubble bath. I returned the bubble bath (expensive from John Lewis) and exchanged it for a baby monitor.

I would get a token gift eg clothes + the rest as a voucher for a generic shop.

VelvetKitty · 12/10/2021 11:50

I got a couple of outfits/soft toys and then Boots vouchers which I used for nappies, wipes, milk, clothes etc.

MonkeyPuddle · 12/10/2021 11:50

I was given a baby backpack (I was asked what I wanted) which they then filled with breast pads, baby grows, selection of bum creams, face masks, two bottles of wine and a huge bar of chocolate (they know me well!) I work in a GP surgery and it was our amazing admin team who put it together.

This was my most favourite engagement present, use it constantly.
Ellarain · 12/10/2021 11:50

I would say vouchers. Where I live you can get ones that cover many shops.

ItsSunnyOutside · 12/10/2021 11:50

I got a lovely and much appreciated hamper which included a lovely little bouncing chair for my dc {that was seperate but part of the hamper}, some beautiful swaddle cloths, nappies, a pack of babygros, a little toy rattle , child farm cream and bath stuff, some pampering bits for me, bath bits, face mask, lip balm, and chocolates.
It was such a lovely idea and they were all used!

PorkTheDork · 12/10/2021 11:54

I've just received £100 Next voucher. I appreciate it a lot.

Spanglybangles · 12/10/2021 12:01

I also got a hamper which was just lovely. At the time I worked in an office with lots of staff do I believe a hamper basket was bought and people could donate what the wanted to the basket. It remember it containing a large soft toy, vests, sleep suits, muslins, bibs, dummies, socks, scratch mitts, hats, books, chocolate, wine, face masks, hot chocolate and mug, baby lotions and creams, blanket, booties. Probably other things that I’ve forgotten. Was one of my favourite gifts.

Fridaysgirl17 · 12/10/2021 12:01

I got a car seat and clothes, blankets, bibs, soothers etc,I worked in Mothercare here in Ireland, was very handy 😀

Spanglybangles · 12/10/2021 12:03

@ItsSunnyOutside maybe we worked in the same place, great minds and all that!! Grin

LaMadrilena · 12/10/2021 12:04

My colleagues asked directly what I wanted. I asked for an H&M gift card for all DD's babygros etc. They gave me that and a fucking annoying educational talking zebra toy too. Actually, I've got quite fond of it, keeps DD occupied for minutes.

My DH's colleagues got us one of those baby hampers with creams etc that we'll never use and some awful pink frilly knitted clothes.

Youdoyoutoday · 12/10/2021 12:06

First time, £150 mothercare voucher, second time, lots of separate gifts mainly clothes for the baby, a little tea party at work and some gifts for my eldest. Then I had flowers delivered after the births.

FirstTimeMommy2021 · 12/10/2021 12:07

I was given £100 Amazon voucher which helped for me to get a few things for baby off there.
Groupon do some good offers for afternoon tea though too I often get them as bday gifts for people

JadeSeahorse · 12/10/2021 12:10

I was a senior exec at the time but unfortunately had a director who hated me.

I got naff all! Oh sorry, I did receive a signed card from my colleagues.

He also put a notice out on our company newsletter - sent all over the country and read by around 25000 people - congratulating just me on the birth of our dd. No mention of my husband who he knew well and spouses were ALWAYS mentioned with these notices. The twat deliberately made me sound like an unmarried mother when I had been married for 15 years. 😒

He finally bullied me out of my role 5 years later at which time I started my own business which proved a great success. I retired early at 59 as did DH and we now live a very comfortable lifestyle. The twattish director lost his job 2 years following my departure and has spent the last 20 years taking any job he could get at nowhere near his previous level.

Best baby gift ever! 😂😂😂

girlmom21 · 12/10/2021 12:10

I got £100 Love2Shop vouchers and it's been lovely to be able to buy myself some nice clothes post baby!

SpiderinaWingMirror · 12/10/2021 12:12

Rocking chair. Loved it.

talkalarm · 12/10/2021 12:19

A lovely bottle of Gin

Chocoqueen · 12/10/2021 12:19

From my work: JoJo Mama bebe voucher - have used part of it to buy a sling.

From DH work: flowers and a teddy for DD. Generous, but I found flowers an annoying gift as you have to faff about sorting them out and by this point we'd run out of vases so had to borrow one from MIL!

BubblinTrouble · 12/10/2021 12:20

I was also given a massive hamper which had lots of creams, baby grows, mittens, vests, Muslin squares, nappy creams etc, a book too. For me they included bath stuff and biscuits. Post birth they sent flowers. It was great but it cost work an awful lot and honestly some of it was a bit naff. We’ve used most of it because I bought very little for DD. However as it was all newborn size stuff didn’t get used very much at all. I would have really preferred/found more useful a few bits and a voucher if I’m honest and some chocolate for me.

Saltpepperbutter · 12/10/2021 12:32

First time I got various nice things including a thermal cup that was supposed to keep my drink warm while I was looking after the baby etc. I did use it, and it was a nice idea, but actually it was too effective and I kept burning my mouth on the boiling hot coffee from the mug.

Second time I got a John Lewis voucher. Ideal. Can buy treats for me or more baby stuff, depending on what I feel like.
