To not eat this chicken

Husbandswife · 10/10/2021 18:26

I spent ages cooking a Sunday roast, cut into the chicken and the meat looked disgusting.
I bought the chicken from a butchers so not some cheap supermarket bird. It was supposed to be herb fed well looked after chicken. I have no idea what the issue is, but the whole dinner went in the bin (gravy, potatoes and roasted veg all had chicken juices). We had to rush to a restaurant for dinner because the child was chomping the table and I didn’t have the heart to start from scratch again.

Would I fuck eat that! Good on you OP for binning it!

QueenBee52 · 10/10/2021 18:35

looks like you shoulda gone to that cheap supermarket 🤣

Summersun2020 · 10/10/2021 18:37

I wouldn’t have binned it, I’d be taking it right back to where it came from tomorrow for a refund! 🤢 hope you enjoyed your restaurant meal

Sosigsandwich · 10/10/2021 18:38

Is it green?! I would definitely have binned that!

yes .. good idea .. the Butcher needs to see this tbh

SolitaryTree · 10/10/2021 18:41

I would also take it back, the butcher probably doesn’t realise that the chickens that they are selling look like this inside and would not sell them and put their business at risk intentionally. You are also entitled to a refund.

Husbandswife · 10/10/2021 18:47

Thank god it’s not just me!
A bit green and black! I couldn’t even feed it to the dog! I’ll be back to the butchers to complain, but to be fair I’ve been using them for five years and their meat is always excellent (although ridiculously priced) and they’re really lovely guys. This time it’s almost made me want to go veggie. It’ll be interesting to see what they say, that’ll make me decide whether to switch somewhere else.

I’m most annoyed about having to eat out - I hate paying £££ for a Sunday roast when I can make it at home for qtr of the price!

Yeah it's a shame it's happened because you trust your Butchers suppliers ... hopefully it's a one off ...

Husbandswife · 10/10/2021 18:49

I took photos, they don’t open again until Tuesday and I can’t cope with the dog pacing round the kitchen for two days on the hunt for roast chicken. I think they’ll be mortified.
I hope to god they don’t use the same people for their turkey, if I had that issue on Christmas Day I’d be burning the shop down!

hahahaaa your poor Dog .. 😂 definitely get rid.. you're photos a very clear and show exactly whats wrong ..

Wazzzzzzzup · 10/10/2021 18:51

They can't see tumours and atuff unfortunately.

Agree with pp about telling the butcher so they know the lot might need chwcking

londonrach · 10/10/2021 18:53

I'd return it to butcher and tell them

suspiria777 · 10/10/2021 19:07

I mean... it's a dead animal OP. What did you expect?

Glitteryone · 10/10/2021 22:43

It’s made me go all goosebumpy and weak 🤢🤢
CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 10/10/2021 23:14

That looks like Green Muscle Disease (Deep Pectoral Myopathy). I vaguely remember reading it in the press a while ago. Something to do with blood flow when they don’t have the room to flap their wings (although I’ve probably misremembered, brain is like a sieve).

SmellyOldOwls · 10/10/2021 23:15

She probably expected it not to have green tagliatelle growing out of the middle of it.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 10/10/2021 23:17

Just rechecked. It’s loss of blood flow to an area of muscle when they flap their wings & the surrounding structure doesn’t allow the muscle to expand, cutting off blood flow to the muscle. I’m not a certified chickenologist though.

I assume she expected it to look like every other cooked chicken. That one doesn't.

Bloody hell Sad

Hamtonn · 10/10/2021 23:21

It’s perfectly fine to eat, it’s just been flapping its wings too much.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 10/10/2021 23:22

@CentrifugalBumblePuppy so an expensive chicken with awful welfare standards then ? 😕

ShepherdMoons · 11/10/2021 04:38

Omg I would complain, that looks awful.

rrhuth · 11/10/2021 04:44

This time it’s almost made me want to go veggie this is what made us go veggie in the end - meat stress!

Hope you get a refund.

Ericaequites · 11/10/2021 04:53

Are you a vegetarian or moral or religious grounds? Neither; I’m a meat inspector.
