Obviously people actually setting fire to his gates are plain lunatics: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-58861252. The article talks about all these other online threats, dead animals and other mischief however, which implies a fair number of individuals who expend time and energy going after him. He's just an environmentalist campaigner who wants a bit more wild space, a few beavers introduced, fewer birds shot... he isn't a man of great power. So what do these people fear so much?

He is anti blood sports and people don't agree. They cite him not understanding country way of life - but I am as country bumpkin as it gets and I hate blood sports.

Megan2018 · 10/10/2021 16:18

He’s an absolute arsehole.
But he shouldn’t have his gates set on fire for that.
I disagree most of what he says, as do the majority of people that live in the countryside. He’s an extremist. He also loves the attention.

WeatherwaxLives · 10/10/2021 16:19

He's also pro badger / anti cull, which is a really really divisive topic.

Pretty much exactly what Meg said.
sociallydistained · 10/10/2021 16:20

I don’t get why people hate him? I think he’s lovely.

DotBall · 10/10/2021 16:29

My mum can’t stand him. She’s a suburban dweller in her 70s, no real reason to dislike the guy 🤣

5zeds · 10/10/2021 16:32

Why don’t you like him?

SwanShaped · 10/10/2021 16:35

I think he’s amazing. His memoir is wonderful. He just pisses people off coz he says what he thinks. He wants more biodiversity in the countryside which I agree with.

MRex · 10/10/2021 16:36

He’s an extremist
Eh? He's a TV star who sets up petitions, not a nail bomber.

Pinkprawns · 10/10/2021 16:36

I think it might have something to do with being a sanctimonius prick Grin

Thatsjustwhatithink · 10/10/2021 16:39

I really like him. He finds it difficult to sometimes understand social cues and get his point across in a way that 'charms' people because of his autism. But his passion for the natural world is clear to see and I think that's great. He's got different points of view from some but never resorts to threats or violence, just debate. Good bloke.

scully29 · 10/10/2021 16:39

I feel terrible for him with his gates, what an awful thing for people to do. I think hes brilliant. And I live in the countryside, please dont think everyone who lives in the countryside is into blood sports! And I dont think he likes the attention either! Chris Packham is great!

Muttly · 10/10/2021 16:42

I love him and he is an awesome ambassador for ASD. Like a grown up Greta Thurmberg. Look at the negative attention she gets

shivermetimbers77 · 10/10/2021 16:42

I think he is brilliant. He is uncompromising in his views an very blunt in his delivery, much as Greta Thunberg is and some people don’t like that. Particularly those who profess to be animal lovers but then support blood sports etc.. He exposes hypocrisy.

TeachesOfPeaches · 10/10/2021 16:43

I really like him. He's autistic so perhaps some people don't like how he comes across. I love that he is so close to his step daughter even though he was only with her mum for 10 years and they broke up a long time ago.

maskface212 · 10/10/2021 16:43

He perhaps doesn't come across as 'charming' but why should he? He's very passionate about the countryside and animals. He uses his popularity and fame to raise awareness which can only be a good thing.

I'm from the countryside and am against blood sports of any kind. I think if he's annoying people who want to rip foxes to pieces after chasing them through other people's gardens, then good on him.

missfliss · 10/10/2021 16:43

Also love how he comes across. He cares unequivocally and passionately about his chosen causes.

Whoever has terrorized him and his home is just a disgrace - there is no justification

Indecisivelurcher · 10/10/2021 16:45

I think he's brilliant.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 10/10/2021 16:45

It’s school bully behaviour. Pick on the weird kid.

He doesn’t deserve it at all. He stands up for his beliefs.

But some people are just jerks.

BeagleBeagled · 10/10/2021 16:46

@Megan2018 can you give a reason why you think he is an absolute arsehole? Do you know him well?

FleasInMyKnees · 10/10/2021 16:47

I really like him, the mindless yobs who destroyed his property should be ashamed of themselves, I hope they get caught soon. He is passionate about his work and the series on t.v with his stepdaughter Meg is one of the most interesting programmes I have watched for a long time.

AmyDudley · 10/10/2021 16:48

Blood sports afficionados are obviously going to hate him because he is anti their bizarre obsession with murdering animals. The claim that 'real' country people are all in favour of blood sports is ridiculous and untrue. I guess these people send him death threats and hate mail and set fire to his property because they are mindless morons, which we all knew anyway because they are keen on dismembering wildlife for fun - which is a well known sign of a psychopath.

WormYourHonour · 10/10/2021 16:49

People like to kill defenceless creatures, makes them feel big and clever.
Chris doesn't like the people that do that and points out that it doesn't make them big or clever.
So the big and clever people prove how big and clever they are by threatening violence.

wolfstarling · 10/10/2021 16:51

I like him. To tired explain why but have always found him to be enlightening, a great presenter and just interesting to watch.

ScroungingKids · 10/10/2021 16:54

He's a dick who totally benefits from the nepotistic attitude of the BBC wrt his daughter. That said I wouldn't set his fence post on fire. But he's a fragile teat and so are all of his supporters.
