Obviously people actually setting fire to his gates are plain lunatics: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-58861252. The article talks about all these other online threats, dead animals and other mischief however, which implies a fair number of individuals who expend time and energy going after him. He's just an environmentalist campaigner who wants a bit more wild space, a few beavers introduced, fewer birds shot... he isn't a man of great power. So what do these people fear so much?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 10/10/2021 16:54

I wondered why on earth people would want to set his property on fire, but then I rembered that company that got tshirts made about raping Greta Thunberg and I realised there are just a fair few pricks out there!

Cuddlyrottweiler · 10/10/2021 16:55

I like him. I think like many autistics, neurotypicals see his difference in the way he communicates and dislike him.

Obviously people who enjoy putting innocent animals through long, terrifying and painful deaths don't like him saying they're abhorrent, vile, wastes of oxygen wrong.

I also think people target people that are weaker than them rather than going for the actual people in power that are responsible for the shitshow our country is.

missfliss · 10/10/2021 16:55

What's a fragile teat? ( genuine?)

RainbowCrossing · 10/10/2021 16:58

@missfliss

What's a fragile teat? ( genuine?)
Is it an autocorrect for twat?

Team Chris here.

Hueandcry · 10/10/2021 16:59

Autistics?? Wtf?

chipshopElvis · 10/10/2021 17:02

He's wonderful. I'm so sad that he is being attacked.

AmyDudley · 10/10/2021 17:04

Is Fragile teat an anagram or is it the new insult of choice of the blood sports brigade (when they're not shouting Yah yah yoicks and tally ho and killing things) ?

And he doesn't have a daughter he has a step daughter.

Anyway now he's been called a fragile teat I'm sure he'll be so destroyed he'll stop campaigning. So all the maniacs can rest easy in their beds and stop being terrified of one slightly built 60 year old man.

Boood · 10/10/2021 17:05

I can’t stand him. He hates cats and pandas.

Setting fire to his property, however, is absolutely disgusting and not in any way excused because he’s unlikeable.

BuckyBarnesArm · 10/10/2021 17:05

He's quite a divisive character. Blunt. Many people don't get that, and he's got strong views. It's enough for people to feel they can do the awful things they have been. I've struggled to warm to him but I recently watched the series he made with his Step-daughter (Chris and Megan's Summer Trip, I think, or something similar) and it was excellent. I think it also helped me understand him better, seeing him interact with her.

Sarah2384 · 10/10/2021 17:05

He's a sanctimonius prick says @Pinkprawns

He's an absolute arsehole says @Megan2018 and @ZeroFuchsGiven

Care to elaborate? Otherwise it's just baseless name calling.

ScroungingKids · 10/10/2021 17:06

Fragile teat is just how I view him, sorry no mystery there

drpaddington · 10/10/2021 17:09

Locally people don't like him because he stopped seagull culling (or something along those lines) which means for several months of the year people are woken in the early hours by seagulls (it really is loud!) They can't dry their washing outside, can't let their children play in the garden because there's so much poo on the ground, and have to wash poo off their cars daily. They sometimes get aggressive too.

RainbowCrossing · 10/10/2021 17:09

I don't think a teat can be fragile?

Flaccid maybe? Or bendy?

Againstmachine · 10/10/2021 17:10

I like Chris packham I grew up with the really wild show. I especially like his comments on the press pandas get whilst other species die out.

However I can see he will rub lots of people up the wrong way and can come across as sanctimonious even though I don't think he is.

FateHasRedesignedMost · 10/10/2021 17:11

He’s anti blood sports and is trying to tighten up the anti fox hunting ban so trail hunts can’t ride over National Trust land. Being anti hunting is going to rile up a lot of powerful people, especially those who’ve had bad encounters with aggressive hunt sabs.

Historically hunts have tracked down and tormented militant hunt sabs so I guess that’s why his gates were set on fire; arson is a silly thing to resort to but he’s made a lot of people very angry.

Hunting is still a way of life for many who’ve been born and bred in the countryside. Livelihoods depend on farmers being able to cull badgers and foxes.

Hunting foxes with dogs may be officially banned but there are enough loopholes to allow many hunts to kill foxes within the law, eg by using hounds to flush out the fox, using a bird a prey, ‘accidentally’ getting onto a fox during a trail hunt. And some trail hunts operate completely legally so he’s targeting those too.

Of course that will enrage a lot of people.

missfliss · 10/10/2021 17:12

So it wasn't an autocorrect - genuinely never heard the term fragile teat before - as an insult or otherwise.

Okay.

Well apparently I am one as I agree with him. There you go, every day is a school day - fragile teats unite!

RAFHercules · 10/10/2021 17:12

@Boood

Of course he hates cats, the outdoor ones do untold damage to native wildlife and shit everywhere (but I don't want to derail thread with that!) And I speak as a cat owner, who can understand his point of view. I like him but dislike the nepotism Hmm
Orangejuicemarathoner · 10/10/2021 17:13

@WeatherwaxLives

He's also pro badger / anti cull, which is a really really divisive topic.
Why is that such a divisive topic?

Very few people agree that a natural ancient population ( badgers) should be culled to go through the motions of protecting an artificial, inherently unstable population (cattle) - which is in fact too large, homogenous and artificial to ever be stabilised anyway-

Even people who want to kill badgers to attempt some negligible and much disputed protection to cattle can clearly see why people disagree

missfliss · 10/10/2021 17:13

@AmyDudley - I love your post - thanks for making me laugh heartily ❤️

prettypinkflamingo · 10/10/2021 17:13

I really like him and I agree it's a case of the bullies picking on the 'weird' one. I've met Chris and he was just lovely and friendly, even though you could tell he was slightly uncomfortable having to chat and be 'the celebrity'. He actually took note of something I mentioned to him and then modified his talk later on to take what I'd said into account. He didn't have to but it really made a difference to our enjoyment of the event. I think he's great.

ScroungingKids · 10/10/2021 17:14

Have to say I agree with his views on cats.

Phyllis321 · 10/10/2021 17:15

WormYourHonour

People like to kill defenceless creatures, makes them feel big and clever.
Chris doesn't like the people that do that and points out that it doesn't make them big or clever.
So the big and clever people prove how big and clever they are by threatening violence.

Exactly this. He’s great.

Orangejuicemarathoner · 10/10/2021 17:15

well, the gull population existed before the human habitation, and has grown because of rubbish left around human habitation.

The way to reduce the gull population is to reduce the rubbish lying around that they feed off of.

Culling will have exactly zero effect - the population is the size that can be supported by the discarded rubbish in the area, no more, no less.

Orangejuicemarathoner · 10/10/2021 17:16

I agree his autism makes him a target to people who can't cope with any individual who's social behaviours are slightly different

MobyDicksTinyCanoe · 10/10/2021 17:17

I like him.

And there are other ways to kill foxes that don't involve chasing them for hours and ripping them to shreds. Catching and neutering for one.

And pandas would have gone extinct years ago if it wasnt for the fact they're cute and humans intervened....... That money could have been better spent elsewhere.
