To wonder where the hell the cat has been

One of the DCats has sauntered in tonight after being missing since the 27th August.

He is not skinny. He is not looking like he's been ill or injured. He's castrated and has been since we'll before he went AWOL.

Our nearest neighbour is about half a mile away and denied ever seeing him when he vanished. So where the kerfuffle has he been?

WIBU to assume he is a super spy similar to Perry the Platypus and got caught up on a mission and to put a tracker on him so next time I can follow him?

Do you have any other near neighbours? They walk quite far cats do.

WorraLiberty · 09/10/2021 22:05

Is he chipped?

Some fuckwit will have been feeding him I expect.

ISpyCobraKai · 09/10/2021 22:08

Many years ago, my cat at the time went missing for 8 months, then just strolled up one day as if nothing had happened Confused

ThirdElephant · 09/10/2021 22:08

He has two sets of owners, I'd wager.

bubbletrumps · 09/10/2021 22:08

He's probably got himself a job and has been ordering takeaways.

TheSpottedZebra · 09/10/2021 22:11

There's a cat who comes and sits on my shed roof, stays for hours looking at pigeons. He has a tracker. I wonder if his owners think I'm feeding him?

I'm not! I have 2 indoor cats who are infuriated by the sight of him on the lawn, but they're too thick to notice him when he sits up on the shed.

Xfox · 09/10/2021 22:11

Someone feeding hedgehogs (and inadvertently your cat)?

Justmuddlingalong · 09/10/2021 22:13

He's been lodging with another family but has realised they're not as generous as you with the central heating and we'll, it's getting cold and damp. He'll expect you to be grateful for his return and to make a suitable fuss, while acknowledging he has a back up family if you don't.

ragged · 09/10/2021 22:16

Tsk Tsk, OP. where is pic of Prodigal Cat Returned??

PinkWaterBottle2021 · 09/10/2021 22:17

Not sure but it's interesting to think that he's been missing during the HGV/Fuel crisis. I mean it could be a coincidence but I think there could be a link.

EKGEMS · 09/10/2021 22:19

LTB-he's been two-timing on you,but get your ducks in a row first! (Check to see if he's wearing a fancy, new collar as well)

Kittekats · 09/10/2021 22:22

YANBU we had similar once, cat just strolled in like normal after several weeks.

I would keep your cat in for a couple of days OP to remind him where home is.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 09/10/2021 22:26

Clearly, his mission took him to the next nearest neighbour until the final, 104th, day of his summer vacation. The neighbour doesn't happen to be a single Dad to a particularly nosey daughter, does he?

I'd want to try a cat cam collar just in case he forgets the mac and hat next time he's off on vacation and finding a good way to spend it - like maybe building a rocket or fighting a Mummy or climbing up the Eiffel Tower? Discovering something that doesn't exist - or giving a monkey a shower? Maybe he was busy surfing a tidal wave, creating nanobots or locating Frankenstein's brain? Perhaps there's a nest where he found a Dodo Bird? Or he did some decorating and was painting a continent whilst driving you completely insane?

As you can see, there was a whole load of stuff to do before school started, but he clearly stuck with it because he was determined to do it all.

***

Did you spoil his return by reacting to him or with the customary 'Oh, hey Perry', by the way?

Weeble09 · 09/10/2021 22:27

We had one who would sometimes disappear for a week and come back beautifully groomed, defleaed and looking wonderful. Not that he didn't look wonderful for us but this was as if he had spent a week at a cat spa! Nearest neighbour was a mile away as the crow flies so he must have been walking that far at least.

And we had another, this one semi feral, who disappeared just before his neutering appointment, came back a month later looking very well, disappeared again a few days later and returned weeks later having been neutered Grin Never did find out who had taken him in, and that was the last time we saw him but he was obviously being very well looked after by someone.

Cats are very odd...

MyCatIsAFuckwit · 09/10/2021 22:35

He has been on a plane and visited distant relatives in Corfu.
He was fully aware restrictions had lifted and took the chance before half term madness.
He is now back to be waited on hand and foot by his "staff" who have been extremely worried! 🐱

ThinWomansBrain · 09/10/2021 22:38

when I was growing up (seaside resort) we had a cat that disappeared every summer, dined at local hotels and returned at the end of the season.

My cat now is an indoor cat mostly - but she has a personalised collar with my phone number on for when we go away - might be an idea for yours if he's alternating berween homes?

Sorry I did indeed forget the obligatory photo of said superspy Puss. Rectified!!!

8 months!!! Goodness.

@NeverDropYourMooncup I snorted at. Just the customery hey dude obviously.

Hes had some sort of debrief with the others - I assume informing them of the dog uprising or something and how he's single handedly defeated it

He's gorgeous 😍

CrystalBuddha · 09/10/2021 23:26

Handsome boy! I'd love to spy on my cat and see what he gets up to / where he goes.

PlinkPlankPlunk · 09/10/2021 23:34

Oh he’s adorable! Clearly he has many other human slaves in true “Six Dinner Sid” style. Big relief he’s back though?!

WorraLiberty · 09/10/2021 23:35

OMG what a beautiful cat OP! 😍

You're lucky he wasn't stolen and sold tbh. A lot of bastards in my area who would do that Sad

NeverDropYourMooncup · 09/10/2021 23:42

@CrystalBuddha

I wouldn't bother with mine. The footage would clearly go from the white fleece cat hanger to the food bowl,

to the litter tray,
to the black furry cat hanger
to the food bowl
to the windowsill
to the rug
to the back door
to the bottom step from the back door
to the litter tray
to the food bowl
to the sofa
to an amazon box or handbag
to the food bowl
to the cupboard where the food is kept
back to the food bowl
to the windowsill
to the food bowl
to the front door when I come in
to the food bowl
to the sofa
to the furry hanger
to the rug
to the sofa
to the food bowl
to the back door
to the food bowl
to the gap between our pillows
to the bathroom as I get up
to, surprisingly enough,
the food bowl.

It's worth remarking on the day he decides to go on an expedition to the spare room to have a kip whilst DP is working up there.

ISpyCobraKai · 09/10/2021 23:44

@WorraLiberty

Dd has a Maine Coon.
She's an indoor cat and they live in a top floor flat anyway, but even if/when they move to somewhere with a garden they won't let her out incase she's stolen.
She's technically worthless money wise anyway as she's been spayed.

NotMyCat · 09/10/2021 23:50

@NeverDropYourMooncup same. I contemplated a cat tracker and then realised he is either
In his teepee
In his donut bed
Asleep in the hedge
Drinking from next doors water feature Blush
Attached to me
Eating

Hunting.
I had one that got attacked by a neighbour's cat. He thought that was too much for him. Set to the woods and stayed there for months till my family went to work in a field nearby and brought him back (on a lead), the second day they were working there. He came willingly to them to say hi, and followed them back, but turned around close to the village. So they were ready the second day, to get him back home.
He was always slender, and he looked exactly the same as when he left.
Now, there are no houses, and no one to feed him anywhere close to that field. None whatsoever. He had to feed himself, and apparently he was quite good at it. He had to find a place to stay too. And... there is a cave nearby to that field, so I bet you he slept there at some point.
I wish we had a camera on him to follow his adventure!
