Licking fingers

I had breakfast in a hotel this morning, the dining room was fairly small so you could hear other people a bit too much. At least three people around me licked their fingers, I find this so disgusting. AIBU

I used to work in a hotel where the Chef licked his fingers every time he touched something so every time I see someone do it I’m 🤢

Licking their own fingers? Wouldn't bother me at all. I don't think I'd even notice.

I’ve noticed since Covid how many people lick their fingers, bite nails, touch face in public places especially trains. If I know my hands are just cleaned then no big deal but I can’t imagine these people have just cleaned them!

@Dojacatpaws you can hear it! Gross, I can’t eat hearing other people eat or chew gum or lick their fingers! It is a bit gross because they then touch stuff at the buffet

I hate it when shop assistants lick their finger before serving you.

Surely there are tongs for picking up stuff at the buffet, and if they do use their dirty, sticky, lucky licked fingers, then they're only picking up stuff they're going to eat.

What's wrong with licking your fingers?

I'm sure you do stuff that others might find "disgusting" 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you can't bear to hear other people eating, maybe a restaurant is not for you.

I really couldn't get het up about it if I tried.

I'd be more concerned if someone was paying attention to me eating. If I eat jam on toast and some jam goes on my finger while I'm holding the toast, I would put my finger in my mouth to get it off. I really don't think that's abnormal

If I was licking all the yolk off both sides of a knife, I'd understand your concern

Maybe get the cooked breakfast instead? If you're that easily disgusted then I'd suggest you avoid eating out tbh

Oh I see what you mean, although it still would bother me as you don't put the tongs in your mouth. I really have no problem with people putting their fingers in their mouths, the closest thing to that, which I do find gross is men putting their hands down their trousers when they're just standing or sitting around

I'd be more worried about the number of men people who don't wash their hands after going to the toilet

Surely the finger licking is after they have got their food so it's not affecting yours? I couldn't get worked up about people licking their own fingers. A lot of people have become germ obsessed these last 18 months. I like to challenge my immune system, I'm currently eating pizza with my hands and licking my fingers.

@CeeceeBloomingdale I think the real rest comes when a huge cheesy pizza bit drops on the remote control. Would you eat it? 😁

The sound of people licking their fingers is the worst of my misophonia triggers!

To me it is so, so loud when someone does it. Even when it barely registers to anyone else in the room. Argh just thinking about it makes my skin crawl all over.

Aware my reaction to it is extreme though, obviously!

I think you might be happier eating on your own if other people's noise bothers you to that extent.

@FairyHuck The remote (aka doofer) is exclusively controlled by DH and when not zapping is stored in a special box, so I would not be near enough to it to drop cheesy dribbles on it thankfully. If I used it exclusively like he does then I would not waste that cheesy droplet.

Utterly, utterly disgusting and a complete lack of manners. I have a friend who does this and I cannot stand it.

People licking their fingers sounds like a dog licking their balls..

I can't stand hearing or seeing grown adults sitting there sucking on their fingers like they're in a porn movie.

Well that’s two very odd comments for the price of one. It’s nothing like a dog licking it’s balls. Apart from anything else, dogs do that for ages… Porn movie? When I list a bit of breakfast of a finger? I’m not sucking it, and certainly not in a lascivious manner, I assure you You may be eating in odd establishments.
