Licking fingers

I had breakfast in a hotel this morning, the dining room was fairly small so you could hear other people a bit too much. At least three people around me licked their fingers, I find this so disgusting. AIBU

@Thethreecs @user1473878824 what do you do when there's jam on your fingers from eating jam on toast?

SweeneyToddler · 08/10/2021 21:31

I think misophonia is the new emetophobia on Mumsnet.

I don't eat jam. If food gets on my fingers I wipe it with a piece of kitchen roll. I don't shove my fingers into my mouth sucking and smacking them.

@Thethreecs exactly. I use a napkin. I don’t sit in public shoving my fingers in my mouth like a child.

It's definitely overused I know, I worried just now that I sounded like a wanker saying it so you've proven me right!

Mine seems to be tied to my epilepsy, which was a result of head trauma in a car crash a few years ago. Just as some experiences give me auras and can induce seizures, particular sounds now feel completely overwhelming - sort of one step away from inducing a panic attack. It's a really weird feeling that makes me want to jump out of my own skin. Sort of utter revulsion.

But I'm aware it does make me sound like a wanker and is very much a 'me' problem!

Who and where are these people licking their fingers?

Round here we use cutlery.

FairyHuck · 08/10/2021 21:42

I'm not a Neanderthal, letting loose with saliva and lip smacking. @user1473878824 and @Thethreecs , geez. And you don't get brownie points because you don't eat jam either

There's nothing wrong with licking the tip of your own fingers whilst eating. I don't believe for a second you never, ever lick the tip of your fingers whilst eating

FairyHuck · 08/10/2021 21:42

Okay a small lick I will allow Grin when I hear licking fingers I am thinking the people who like, stick an entire digit in their mouth, close their lips and pull it out. There’s a Venn diagram somewhere of them and shudder knife lickers.

Oh drat no brownie points for me..

And NO I don't lick any part of my fingers.

FairyHuck · 08/10/2021 21:50

I'd agree there is no need for a full digit suck

FairyHuck · 08/10/2021 21:51

I think you're truly blessed then @Thethreecs because I don't carry napkins with me for an occasion when food may cross my lips

Cheeserton · 08/10/2021 21:53

Have you nothing better to bother about? Seriously?

Thankfully I keep kitchen roll at home and in restaurants etc they are kind enough to provide napkins.
FairyHuck · 08/10/2021 21:57

Give yourself a classy star @Thethreecs, geez. You must be a better human than me

What about at the cinema? Do you take wipes? Do you not lick your fingers even in the dark?
