DH bought pram after family have us one

My sister had an icandy pram for he LG who is now 6. It's been in storage for a few years.

I'm now pregnant and my parents got the pram out of storage (it had been in their shed) and cleaned it up and drive it 4 hours to our place.

There are a few small rust marks on the metal and the fabric is faded, but it's otherwise in perfect working order.

DH was worried that people would judge us for having a pram where the fabric was faded. He has come home from work tonight with a travel system that he found on a buyer's site.

I don't mind him getting another pram, but I feel sick at the prospect of having to tell my family that I no longer want the travel system that they have brought for me for the baby. I feel like they'd see me as ungrateful and snobby.

What would everyone do in this situation?

Dont tell them. They’re 4 hours away, how would ever know?

Somethingsnappy · 27/09/2021 19:55

Use both! One to keep in the car and one to keep in the house?

StCharlotte · 27/09/2021 19:56

They're four hours away. How will they know?

nailvarnishhubby · 27/09/2021 19:56

It's fine. Your DH wants his first born to have a new pram it's not a problem. Just say he had his heart set on choosing one his self or that he won it or something.

GiraffeClimber · 27/09/2021 19:56

I just wouldn’t tell them.

Brollywasntneededafterall · 27/09/2021 19:58

Ds had ahem 5 modes of transport..
Blush
Seriously op you will use 2. Get a buggy liner /footmuff for the faded one...

mynameiscalypso · 27/09/2021 19:59

We have two prams. It's quite handy at times albeit we live in a relatively small flat so they get in the way a bit!

Pebbledashery · 27/09/2021 20:01

I had two prams.. The bad boy one for all terrain and the little fold up one for a quick whizz to the shops etc. Honestly. Keep both.

brewstew · 27/09/2021 20:02

Did you ask them to bring you the icandy or did they just bring it?
Do you even get a say in the pram at all? I can't imagine being happy with either my husband or my parents foisting any old pram on me.

Clymene · 27/09/2021 20:02

Can you afford the thing your husband has bought? Is money tight?

No one will care what pram your baby has

burritofan · 27/09/2021 20:04

I’d be annoyed at my partner if they wasted money and environmental resources like this just because the hand-me-down pram is faded: how ridiculous! Can he get a refund? I don’t know anyone who needed or used two prams.

Thevoiceofreason2021 · 27/09/2021 20:04

Everyone I know , including myself, has 2 buggies! The massive one with a huge shopping basket - the SUV travel system and then the tiny fold down one for the car/ plane. Having a slightly grubby looking buggy is also handy for leaving at nursery. Just don’t mention it to your family, they’ll never know and if they do ask - just tell them you needed a car buggy or something with a bigger basket etc…

LakeShoreD · 27/09/2021 20:08

I’ve found that most people end with 2 prams. Usually a bigger one like the icandy which can be taken for walks, carry lots of shopping etc. Then also a smaller one for travel, public transport, when the toddler wants to walk but can only manage short distances, that sort of things. What did your DH buy?

NailsNeedDoing · 27/09/2021 20:10

Just find the space for two prams and don’t make a big deal out of it. It’s nice that your DH wanted to choose a pram.

icedcoffees · 27/09/2021 20:11

Unless there's a money issue at play, I don't see the issue. Use both.

Skyeheather · 27/09/2021 20:11

Do you and DH both have cars? If so keep one in yours and one in his - saves having to keep moving it from one car to another or going somewhere and realising the pram is in the other car.

RickJames · 27/09/2021 20:14

Aw, let your DH buy a pram. He's excited!

Just be happy to have two. One might break. One in the car, one in the house. Its not a bad thing.

mayblossominapril · 27/09/2021 20:16

You’ll definitely use two prams.I have the clean one in the car for going to the shops etc. The mucky one for the walks near home. You may also find your child prefers one to the other and their preference might change as they get older

Buttons294749 · 27/09/2021 20:16

I have loads of prams, having 2 is fine. What is the second one?

tickingthebox73 · 27/09/2021 20:16

I had four prams for 2 children. one travel system, one offroady type, one mclaren single and one mclaren double,

mayblossominapril · 27/09/2021 20:16

Also you won’t be constantly taking the damn thing in and out of the car along with everything else you need

tickingthebox73 · 27/09/2021 20:17
  • I should just say in the end the travel system was barely used.... It was the other three that were useful buggies!
MamaTutu2 · 27/09/2021 20:17

You can buy colour packs for Icandy prams to change the fabric, that would make it almost brand new and might satisfy DH if he can return the one he got?

FortniteBoysMum · 27/09/2021 20:21

Always better having 2. The first time dp went off to work with the pram in his boot I had a doctors appointment. Ended up having to put baby in the carrier when it was icy out. Needless to say we got to the end of the drive and cancelled the appointment. I went in and ordered a new pram instead.

LidlMiddleLover · 27/09/2021 20:21

Just tell them its safety is out of date Which is probably true if its a travel sysyem that is that old
