Ladies Loos shut

hughmanatee1 · 25/09/2021 13:59

Today we went to stourhead, after a cuppa we went to the Lois before entering the gardens. The gents, open, the ladies and the disabled both closed for refurbishment. A notice saying that the nearest loos are either down in the courtyard, steep hill a couple of hundred yards away, or in the house itself, about two hundred and fifty yards uphill.
No attempt to provide alternatives, ( they have done so in the past!). The car park fairly full.
I was stunned!!

I'd have used the gents in this circumstance.

Soubriquet · 25/09/2021 14:10

Same

Dinoroaraus · 25/09/2021 14:12

Just identify as a man and use theirs

Dinoroaraus · 25/09/2021 14:12

that sucks for people who need an accessible loo though.

GoodnightGrandma · 25/09/2021 14:13

Me too.
Mrsjayy · 25/09/2021 14:17

I would have used the mens I prefer to use the disabled toilet but fortunate enough to be mobile enough to go elsewhere not everyone is able to though.

icedcoffees · 25/09/2021 14:18

Just use the mens' loo. I would do and have done in similar circumstances.

CattingT · 25/09/2021 14:21

How is 200 yards too far?

Mrsjayy · 25/09/2021 14:22

I mean if the toilets are needing upgraded then what is the alternative ?

Blanketsnpamphlets · 25/09/2021 14:25

Stunned because you had to go 200 yards to a toilet?

WallaceinAnderland · 25/09/2021 14:26

Use the loo in the pub right outside the gardens.

gardeninggirl68 · 25/09/2021 14:28

No alternatives provided? But they did.... a few hundred yards away

Antinerak · 25/09/2021 14:46

Accessibility is getting worse and worse. Hopefully those who need accessible loos have done research in advance to know they won't get them there.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 25/09/2021 14:49

200 yards is not far at all I'd just use them. However I don't have any mobility issues.

PyjamaFan · 25/09/2021 14:52

No attempt to provide alternatives? They indicated the 2 closest!

You are massively over reacting. Stunned? Get a grip!

Is it like a national park place? They can't really build a massive temporary loo there it will ruin the ground
UseOfWeapons · 25/09/2021 15:03

I’d have used the gents, if I couldn’t make it to the others.
Not ideal, but what choice is there? I do think that have the disabled loo closed at the same time is not a sensible plan though.

Sn0tnose · 25/09/2021 15:04

I think they should have made it clear at the entrance that those particular accessible toilets weren’t available, just in case someone with mobility issues had planned their visit around not going up or down steep hills, (it wouldn’t take much effort to print out a page of A4 and pin it to the entrance) but 200 yards until the next one would be fine for me.

Dinoroaraus · 25/09/2021 15:05

@Sn0tnose that's a good idea. Or mentioned it to visitors when they buy their ticket. I'm guessing they need a ticket.

thevassal · 25/09/2021 15:27

Do you not ever go anywhere that's not within 250 yards of a toilet then? If your plan was to walk around the gardens (as would be the plan of 99.9% of the visitors as that is what the attraction is!) then why would you object to walking to the toilet along the way!

I mean the ideal solution would probably have been to repurpose the gents temporarily as an all-access toilet (urging giving priority to the elderly, those with mobility isses, etc), and having a sign up at the entry, website, and pay point so that people were aware of this, then saying for anyone who wants single sex facilities they are located in x and y direction. If you care so deeply you could suggest that to them?

MrsTesfaye · 25/09/2021 15:30

Just identify as a man and use theirs

This! Apparently you can pick and choose which gender you identify with day to day, week to week, month to month.

Peanutsandchilli · 25/09/2021 15:39

So you could practically SEE the next lot of toilets then. Where's the problem?

idontlikealdi · 25/09/2021 15:45

Just use what's available.

LukeEvansWife · 25/09/2021 15:48

What alternative? A bucket?

VeganVeal · 25/09/2021 15:49

If it had happened to me I'd be sobbing and shaking
