Abandoned car on our land

I live on a small private lane off a main road. Came home this morning and someone has abandoned a shitty old car on our lane, right outside our gate there is a note on it saying they’ve broken down and left it. The note says it would be gone before dark but it’s still there. AIBU to be really pissed off and want to try to get it removed? It’s an eyesore and blocking access. DH thinks I’m being dramatic.

I'd start if with checking if it's taxed

It is taxed and MOT’d, I’ve checked.

Report to the council as abandoned.

I would give it until at least tomorrow afternoon as they have left a note. Not everyone can afford a nice car.

Give it a day or two first before you go about reporting it as abandoned. Perhaps there is a good reason for the delay.

If they left a note then it's likely they'll sort it. Not exactly their fault if it has broken down!

It's been there less than a day and was left with a note, YAB totally ridiculous to call it abandoned at this stage.

I'd give them an extra day or 2 just because I've been so broke i couldnt afford a tow and it's a rough spot to be in so I would be sympathetic.

Unless it's farm land (we've had similar) I've asked our farmer to tow the car into our field so it's safe. (Owner was struggling to pay for repairs and recovery) was also grateful we had moved it into our land further with the farmers help

If you're on a private lane how did it come to be there if it's 'broken down'?

Can you still use your gate that's being blocked?

Maybe give it until the end of Sunday in case they're getting someone to help them move it at the weekend, and if it's still there on Monday, report it as abandoned?

It’s not been abandoned though has it. They broke down there only this morning. I’m sure they’d rather have picked the car but they probably couldn’t arrange a tow. See what happens tomorrow, hopefully it will be gone before lunch.

YANBU - they should have left contact details.

As in YANBU to want it gone but as pp said if they have an old car they might have problems paying a tow so give them the benefit of the doubt.

Can you get into your drive/house/land? If you can, I would leave it for a couple of days and allow the car owner time to sort it out.

I should imagine getting a vehicle that was about the break down off the main road.

They've left a note, I think you should assume good grace and give them a day or two before assuming that it's properly abandoned.

There was an abandoned car on a lane near our house. I reported it to the police online and they had it removed.

Is it a pick up? And have they gone out on bikes? Could your brother put up toy soldiers around it?…
