Because whenever I freeze leftover stew, soup, pasta sauce, chilli etc OF COURSE I am going to remember what it is so I dont need to label it, right?

So 6 weeks later when I defrost it .,.....well lets just say that we have occasionally had chilli with pasta and bolognaise with rice. But thats ok isnt it?

Tell me I am not the only person who does this!

No I do it with soups.

I think I'll definitely recognise the carrot soup shade from the squash soup shade . Nobody ever ends up with the flavour they were offered.

VanGoSunflowers · 22/09/2021 19:11

I thought you meant crap oven food before I read your OP. I was going to say that we call it ‘Iceland Tapas’

UniBallEye · 22/09/2021 19:11

I couldn't eat the main with the wrong side, sorry OP.
Just get a sharpie and write on the outside of the freezer bag?

JessicaFletcher16 · 22/09/2021 19:12

YANBU - we regularly eat ‘Freezer Surprise’ for dinner. I have even bought a label maker to try and help with this but have only used it a handful of times for storecupboard items and not even sure the labels can be used in the freezer! 😂

Notimeforaname · 22/09/2021 19:13

Happens with leek and potato soup and cream of cauliflower too.Grin Tomato mixed up with red pepper soup. Every time I promise to label. Hmm

We call these UFOs.... Unidentifiable Frozen Objects.

Keladrythesaviour · 22/09/2021 19:15

DH has never forgiven me for the time he took a bag of stock for lunch...

BillywigSting · 22/09/2021 19:15

Chilli and curry regularly mixed up here you are definitely not alone! Grin

Where's the fun in that?! :o

We were having chicken stew last week, I made the dumpings and out came.....soup. Was very nice with the dumplings though!

My husband does this, he writes on the bag but then it gets all wrinkled up in the freezer and we can't read it.

My sister did a stunner once. What she thought was left over Xmas turkey frozen in gravy turned out to be just gravy. She had made a full Xmas dinner for my BIL's birthday as its his favourite.....and had to quickly bung in some sausages when she realised her mistake :o

I was eating lunch with a colleague once when she realised she'd brought stock instead of soup. I always think ill remember when I put something in two freezer and never do. Doesn't teach me a lesson though.

My late MIL on the other hand was a home economics teacher and all her freezer stuff was meticulously labelled - item + date + defrosting and cooking instructions. Grin

PrescriptionOnlyMedicine · 22/09/2021 19:20

I might throw away my Sharpie, as this all sounds very exciting.

I call it “freezer roulette” when we’re using up random frozen food.

Love it Grin
ISpyCobraKai · 22/09/2021 19:23

I feel like a right twat saying that I label mine.
I buy the foil tubs with card lids and write on them with a sharpie.

Haha as though people hadn’t figured out this solution

We know exactly what to do, it’s just in the moment we forget/fail to learn from experience and assume we will remember etc

My mix ups are always stroganoff and curry but at least you can have them both with rice

Littlebutload · 22/09/2021 19:25

The answer is to serve your unidentifiable freezer food with chips. Chips go with everything!

Thank you - I’ve had a shit day at work and this is the first thing that has made me smile 😊!

This is very outing if anyone in real life reads this but here is my freezer story. During lockdown I was using up things in the freezer. I made a lovely Mac and cheese using up 2 pots of cheese sauce from the freezer. When I served it up everyone was happily eating it and it took me taking a mouthful to realise I had used one pot of cheese sauce and one pot of custard. Everyone said it was a little sweet but was fine and it was all eaten. My children always ask if I am sure it's cheese sauce now when they see me getting a pot out of the freezer.

Wotwhywhen · 22/09/2021 19:29

"serves "random brown shit" for dinner am I?"

As well as defrosting things I have forgotten what they are, random brown shit to me is also leftover frozen bits and bobs.

Daughter loves random bits and bobs teas.
She ends up with a single chicken nugget, a fish finger, 5 chips and a waffle... 😂

Yarnandneedles · 22/09/2021 19:31

Freezer surprise was a regular feature in our house. Now I scrape a little of the ice and taste it so I’m fairly sure I know what I’ll be serving.
My worst thing was getting out some cheese sauce to make cauliflower cheese to go with a roast. It wasn’t til we sat down to eat I realised it had tiny bits of flaked salmon through it. Not the best with pork!

FoofOfTheWalkingDead · 22/09/2021 19:31

I used to do this but now I have all sorts of diet restrictions so I have to label mine. Food for the rest of the fam is often a 'mystery tea' though.

user1473878824 · 22/09/2021 19:33

@Wotwhywhen I’m cutting out carbs and that just made me so incredibly jealous of your daughter I can’t even describe it.

Driftingblue · 22/09/2021 19:35

No, I’m obsessive about the Sharpie. I even put a date on every item I open so it’s easy to tell if it’s been open too long.
