WIBU to ask DH to call in sick tomorrow?

JetRocket · 19/09/2021 13:52

Technically not sick but I can’t remember the name ‘family/dependant leave’ maybe.

I very rarely ask. So it’s not common behaviour at all. Once, max twice a year and I’ve either been hospitalised or bed bound.
Last night we got a D&V bug. 3 month old got it first then me, 18 month old is already poorly on antibiotics with an upset stomach and sooo clingy.

I can push through a lot but this is something else, I feel awful and haven’t been out of bed other than the toilet all day. This is the first time I’ve picked up my phone and haven’t been able to watch any shows. I’m properly unwell.

Plus there’s major house renovations planned for months starting Tuesday, loads of stuff being delivered tomorrow and a few workmen coming. Not sure it’s fair to give them my germs.

Would I be awful to request DH use a parental day potentially tomorrow/Tuesday, if I don’t make a miraculous recovery? My head says ‘YABU push through’ but my heart is screaming ‘YANBU please do it!’

I would ask him.

ChateauMargaux · 19/09/2021 13:54

Tell him to imagine that you are the nanny and you cannot come to work.. he has to step up here..

WoozySnoozy · 19/09/2021 13:54

Sounds like looking after 3 and 18 month old at short notice is what dependants leave is for to me.

Gorl · 19/09/2021 13:55

Yanbu, you clearly need him to at least look after the children. There’s no way you can push through when you’re that ill.

JetRocket · 19/09/2021 13:55

I’m so pleased some of you agree.
He will do it if I ask he’s not nasty about it or anything he just hates doing it so I don’t ask unless I really need it.

Yeah I get you, it's always a last resort option for me or DH to use one of our dependents leave days but it sounds like this is really needed.

Sirzy · 19/09/2021 13:58

If he can then do. No harm in asking.

Can you push back the start date for the work a few days?

Dita73 · 19/09/2021 13:59

He should definitely take the day off. Only problem is he’ll no doubt end up with it too and expect you to look after him!

LadyLolaRuben · 19/09/2021 13:59

You're really unwell and can't do everything that needs overseeing. DP needs to take a day off work. YNBU

Think Im worse aw dehydrated.
3 month old chucked her guts up last night and is ebf so been trying to boob her to rehydrate today. All I can do is sip water. Im not violently voiding myself anymore but still have the runs and my whole body hurts and I feel shit, literally.

Baby has stopped being sick thankfully but is feeling sorry for herself. Might not be an issue anyway if DH gets it, must be contagious as both grandparents we saw on Friday have it too!

@Dita73

He’s actually pretty good about sick bugs, much better than me. Think he’s got iron guts from extensive traveling in the third world. He rarely gets them bad or for long and just gets on with it.

It’s colds/flu that land him in bed! Grin

Oh god you're BF as well! You poor thing you must be absolutely shattered. Sending positive vibes your way. Hope you're better soon.

JetRocket · 19/09/2021 14:07

I’ve got intense lower back pain which I’m starting to think might be a bit of a water infection starting and one of my breasts is really sore. I live in fear of mastitis now.

Think I’ve made my decision if I’m still like this I’ll ask him. Thanks all

girlmom21 · 19/09/2021 14:07

Definitely ask him to take leave! It sounds like you're a good team.

HadEnoughofOtherThreads · 19/09/2021 14:08

You’re sick. He has dependants. That’s what Dependancy Leave is for.

Pebbledashery · 19/09/2021 14:12

I would ask him.. The worst he can say is he can't, he doesn't sound like he's a nasty tyrant who will just leave you to it. It's carers leave, that's what it's there for. Hope you all feel better x

JetRocket · 19/09/2021 14:34

Decision has been made for as I’m now running a fever and DH’s work haven’t adopted the no need to isolate if double jabbed thing so he technically he can’t go in anyway until I’m tested.

dottiedodah · 19/09/2021 14:54

Maybe an idea to call doc tomorrow or 111? If you have lower back pain and are EBF plus dehydrated as well .Just to be on the safe side really .Hope you feel better soon

nokidshere · 19/09/2021 14:59

I know this has been resolved but seriously? You really shouldn't have to bloody ask for your partner to take the day off, surely he can see how bad you are?

WhyOhWhyOhWhyyyy · 19/09/2021 15:23

YANBU at all OP. I had a vomiting bug last week and there was no way I could have looked after DD. DH took a day of annual leave and I didn’t get out of bed at all. Hope you feel better soon.

BlackberryMuncher · 19/09/2021 15:27

In that case, don't rush to get tested!!

You shouldn't have to 'ask' him anyway, he knows how unwell you & the kids are, he should have said he'll stay home for a few days.

JetRocket · 19/09/2021 16:49

DH leaves the decision to me just like he would me calling in sick to my own job, when not on Mat leave. He won’t make the decision for me, unless I was hospitalised, because he doesn’t know whether it’s ‘I feel crap but I can rally and push through’ or ‘I need you to stay home’ but he’s not funny about it. At most I get a ‘ah that’s a shame had a busy day today but sure they’ll understand’ it’s certainly not me begging him or him being unwilling.

Still feel miserable Sad

OP posts:
cactijones · 19/09/2021 18:18

It sounds horrendous hope you feel better soon x

JetRocket · 19/09/2021 21:25

Still feel crap but managed a mouthful of dry cereal and some water.
DH got the big one down but has left me with small one. He feels sick so suspects he’s coming down with it now.

Small one will only sleep on my boob. Think she’s missed me today. First day she’s not spent with me since birth.

Dita73 · 20/09/2021 06:36

Hope you’re feeling better today Flowers
