Lighthearted, and risk free. Given that this is all anonymous and all that.

When I was fourteen, I was out with my friend after drama club. It was winter and dark and fucking freezing but I was sweating as well as shivering. We were walking to her grandma's house in the next village where I was getting picked up by my stepdad in about an hour. I was quite clearly ill, but my mum had not believed me and sent me to a long day at school. As we were walking, my belly churned and I knew that there was gastric trouble afoot. I excused myself into an innocent looking field for "a wee" but I knew it was not that. Thankfully, there were no street lights at all, so even if someone had come past, they'd not have seen. It was pitch black. My friend kept watch while my bowels evacuated what seemed like water and slime for about five minutes and sweat dripped off my body onto the ground, I can remember how much I was shaking and how I had the weirdest taste of metal in my mouth. When the onslaught ended, I didn't know how to wipe my bum. I took off my school tie, wiped with that and then had no idea what to do so I just discarded it at the scene and shamefully scuttled back to my friend. I was then off school for a week with some kind of horrible intestinal infection.

But the field. The quiet little field I'd chosen to slip over the fence into. It was a graveyard. And I'd relieved myself right next to a war grave. Right before armistice. And left my school tie there. How do I know? Because it was in the school newsletter as a "regrettable incident" and anyone with information as to who the culprit was could report in confidence to the headteacher. I expect the groundskeeper reported it to the school. Even my mum tutted about no respect. Thank god it was over 20 years ago. Nowadays it would have trended with a hashtag and a witch hunt.

And now I have finally told the tale. What's yours?

A few months ago my dp witnessed a cat hit by a car. He is cat mad, loves them more than anything and gets depressed for weeks if a neighbours cat dies etc. Anyway he called me in distress so I race round, and take the cat to the vet where it is put down straight away. I came home and told dp the cat had gone for surgery and was expected to make a full recovery. I will never tell the truth on that one.

Stop being a dick Harford. You're not the thread police.

Kanaloa · 26/09/2021 00:17

@Harford

They had a coin jar, I ended up "taking" money from that walking/bus to local town to HMV shop. My sister smoked so I ended up trying that out of boredom, hated it. Drank some spirits they have and got a bit drunk a few days day (added back in tap water!). Discovered some porn mags in their bedroom, wow I'd never seen anything like that, and I was intrigued. Found an envelope of money with literally hundreds in it. Packing up to go home, I ended up taking 60 pounds from that envelope, a CD I really like and a few porn mags

What is the secret? You stole money as a teen, experimented with booze and fags and saw your 1st porn. Pretty standard really for most teens and not any big grave secret.

You’ve literally repeated the secret. She stole money and items from someone’s home. She wouldn’t tell anyone because you’re not supposed to steal money.

Yes many people do it. Many people do lots of the things mentioned on the thread (lying to parents etc). The thread isn’t called ‘what have you done that nobody else has ever done.’

@Harford what do you mean what's the secret? THAT is that posters secret, she's never told anyone and is unlikely to, therefore it's her secret. Just because it's not as terrible as yours doesn't mean it's not her secret! Hmm
BluebellsareBlue · 26/09/2021 09:55

@Harford

But the thread is about secrets we are taking to the grave,not about school memories. So I repeat the question what has any of this to do with dark secrets?
No one said it had to be dark secrets, just secrets. Not everyone has a dark secret. I think your trying to get people to put something worse than yours and not everyone has ever done anything like that.

@StinkingCold

WhatDidISayAlan..

*I know an elite athlete (no longer competing) who doped. They are now famous, powerful, and very rich and would be ruined if it got out.

But they also do a lot of work for the wider good. I don't agree with what they did, but I'm not going to be the one leaking that out.*

Crikey!! That is quite a big deal!!! I wonder who it is? Gary Lineker?

I know who this is. 2012 would be seen through a different prism of people knew...
Ddot · 26/09/2021 10:04

No trying to get some reaction.

Ddot · 26/09/2021 10:06

thesearelaughterlines · 26/09/2021 10:22

I think so. Very strange. Perhaps thinking "someone must have done something worse than I" so looking for the dark secrets of others to make themselves feel better
FuckingFabulous · 26/09/2021 11:37

@Harford- someone's take-to-the-grave secret is that they stole porn mags and money from their sister; why is it rubbing you up the wrong way? Is it perhaps because they simply took a tiny bit of cash and a dirty publication, but you were willing to "whore" yourself to an old man and wait for him to die so you'd get a pay off? Do you see theirs as the misdemeanour to your capital offence? They're not you and they've not had your life experiences. You both made your choices and both don't want to tell people in real life about them. That's literally what this thread is about.

I'm also interested in your comment about the irony of asking for lighthearted secrets and other posters turning it dark. Yours is hardly sunshine dust. Some people have dark secrets. It might be that this is the only place they've ever come to get them off their chest a little bit. So although I did ask for lighthearted confessions, if someone telling their darker secret now feels better for having done so, I think that's great. Perhaps they themselves might now be feeling more lighthearted because of it. Even you, Harford.

I have done this!

And actually...... last Christmas my middle child was actually acting a bit tipsy and his acting was far too good. Oscar worthy. And I know my kid. He isn't Robert DeNiro. Discovered that because I had TOLD him he was having wine with Christmas dinner, he'd been merrily topping himself up with Prosecco while I went to get the other courses.

My father made wine from stuff he grew, I had one glass one sunday lunch time (with permission) and slept for hours I was about 12. His wine was famous in our street, this was 50+ years ago

thesearelaughterlines · 26/09/2021 12:49

@FuckingFabulous not so much a secret but in a similar vein .. when I did finally let them have a taste of alcohol , we'd been given one of those packs of french beer , small bottles maybe 9 in a box ?
I said they could have 3 each and suggested they spread them out over the weekend

DC 1. Normal
DC. 2 Normal
DC.3 Pissed as a fart with puke everywhere
Turns out no 1 didn't like it so said he could have them , no 2 traded his bottles for some extra PS time so no 3 got them all and just downed them 😂😂😂

Ugh, the first of the many lessons to learn about alcohol. I'm not surprised your dc1 didn't like the little beers, I tried them as a teen and thought they were horrid!

Mar 2017, final year at Uni complete stress with dissertation, essays and exams and DC1 first break up and wasn’t handling it well at all. DC2 being bullied at primary, school and mother of other child doing nothing. I’d had enough. Stood on the platform heard the announcement that next train wasn’t stopping here, heard the horn of the train as it came into station thought about the impact of the train on me and how long pain would last. I stepped one step forward when I heard the horn, my toes were hanging off the platform. Had I been a few cms closer to edge i would not be here

thesearelaughterlines · 26/09/2021 13:05

@GoingOutOutNEVER that's awful , hope life has been kinder to you since

Babamamananarama · 26/09/2021 13:47

When I was about 17 I had a Saturday job in a large chain of trainer shops. We were all paid a really measily rate - I think it was £3.17 an hour.

The chain went into sudden administration. We all knew we were just about to lose our jobs - not so much of a disaster for me but my boss had a mortgage and family. The chain was shutting down branches on zero notice. One week we got delivery of a whole other two branches stock as they had closed, none of which had been stock-checked, it all just got piled into our stock room.

Well. We didn't feel bad about liberating some sportswear. I think my boss was taking orders from his mates and selling it black market.

BluebellsareBlue · 26/09/2021 22:20

Mine is going to be a long one with the explanation, I'm saving it for tomorrow... in fact I have 3 so I'm leaving this here to remind me

that wasn't a criticism of you or the thread, it was an um observation yet you have managed to find offense in it.
