DD finally got star of the week!

FinallySOTW · 17/09/2021 17:34

DDs 7, in year 3.

She’s never had star of the week, ever! Apparently that’s impossible as everyone gets it once per year but she’s honestly never had it. She’d given up ever getting it. Stars of the week get to sit on the bench for the assembly but due to a medical issue she sits on the bench anyway so had given up predicting she’d get it sat on the bench. She apparently didn’t realise no-one else in her class was sat on the bench!

But she finally got it. I didn’t even know until I got the assembly link sent to my emails earlier today and logged on to watch her get it. I didn’t really clock what is was until I head the headteacher on the assembly say “Now for the parents watching at home we’re going to announce the star of the week for each class”. I admit I cried!

I know they’re hated on here but I’m so proud. She got it for maths as well. She waved at the camera (they get all the kids to do it) and her name and picture is on the board in the school office for the first time in 3 and a bit years!

I know VUR for announcing it here. 3 years I've waited for it. Her friends parents have watched their child get it at least 3 times already.

Well it’s a big well done from me 👍🏻
My DD was thrilled when she finally got it after being passed over for years!

habsboys2020 · 17/09/2021 17:36

ThTs brilliant! Many congratulations to her 🥳

MrsPumpkinSeed · 17/09/2021 17:38

This is just lovely. Well done to your wonderful child. It's a pity she had go wist so long - I keep a strict record and never miss anyone as I know it means so much.

GoWalkabout · 17/09/2021 17:38

Ah well done her

MrsPumpkinSeed · 17/09/2021 17:38

Wait

SheldonesqueTheLazyEyedBstard · 17/09/2021 17:39

Well done 🥳

Two of us with quiet well-performing girls had to go up to the teacher and ask why they hadn’t received it when most others had gotten it at least twice. No answer but then they did the following 2 weeks.

purpleme12 · 17/09/2021 17:40

Wow brill!
I think I would have had a word with the teachers by now if everyone else had it before now
But that's good she's got it now

I've bought it up with all 3 of her previous teachers and they all say she's had it and tell me she got it in X week of Term 1/2/3 but she's never had it. The names go in the school newsletter too and I've checked them all her name is never there (will be next week though).

Lovely news! Well done. It means such a lot to children.

Shieldingending · 17/09/2021 17:43

Hooray, well done to her Smile

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 17/09/2021 17:43

Well done DD. There's nothing wrong with recognition 🙌

JayAlfredPrufrock · 17/09/2021 17:44

Well done that girl.

My dd was the same. The PTA were given tickets to a local soft play. We decided they’d be given out with the Star of the week as then every child would get one.

We waited. And waited.

My dd was one of those colourless individuals, neither good nor bad, kept a low profile, always overlooked 🤷‍♀️

LST · 17/09/2021 17:44

DS1 is in year 5 and has had it once. DS2 who is rather a different (difficult on occasion) who is in year 3 has had it loads and in fact has already had it since being back since September.

I see both sides as DS2 needs a lot of encouragement to get motivated but the 'good' kids like my DS1 just get no recognition at all.

Nothing about that surprises me sadly, they're often overlooked.

Congrats to your DD yay!

All of DDs previous teachers have said she's well behaved and gets on with things which I've always praised her for because she does struggle with some things.

Aww bless her, bet she's chuffed.

This makes me so sad that she's had to wait for so long. DC's school seem to ensure that a child has it at least once in the year, usually more.

girlmom21 · 17/09/2021 17:47

I bet she's so proud! What a little superstar SmileStar

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 17/09/2021 17:48

My DD moved schools at Easter... and her new teacher would give out certificates to anyone who she thought deserved it. Multiple each week, on random days. The change in self esteem of my DD getting regular recognition was amazing after two years of her highest honour being allowed to carrying the first aid box (which was given to her as she was reliable... why not reward her for that then?)

noprofessional · 17/09/2021 17:51

Star good for her! I really dislike seeing the same names appearing every week on the newsletter whilst others are overlooked.

That's fantastic.

It's really hard for kids to watch everyone get something for years and years and remain motivated.

So pleased she got her turn. Smile

JaninaDuszejko · 17/09/2021 17:56

It is so important for DC. My kids school has 101 awards and the kids love it. My favourite is the one they get from the dinnerladies for being polite, think it's so useful to have a reward given by someone other than the teacher.

notlongtillxmas · 17/09/2021 18:12

Well done .. fabulous 🎉 🎈 🎊
Please let her see all these congratulations!

IWentAwayIStayedAway · 17/09/2021 18:17

@Ionlydomassiveones lol. I used to tell my children to do this as they were quiet and overlooked till last few weeks of term. Hate those types of awards were everyone has their week to receive it but @FinallySOTW i totally get your joy especially when she has waited so long
