To want dishwasher tablets that work and don’t smell like lemon?!

I absolutely detest anything ‘fake lemon’ smelling - especially cleaning products! And it feels like all the dishwasher tablets I usually use are slowly becoming lemon scented…it invades everything, everything has this horrible artificial lemon scent and it makes me gag, I used a spatula earlier and it made the food taste vaguely lemony.

I like actual lemon, but not fake cleaning product lemon.

I tried a few other brands (I usually use finish or fairy) and didn’t feel they cleaned as well?

Can anyone recommend dishwasher tablets that actually work and don’t stink?!

Have a look at Smol. They're good at cleaning and you can get a recurring subscription for them to be delivered. Think they do a trial pack for £1 to see how you get on.

Fairy original dishwasher tabs.
I can’t abide the synthetic lemon smell either.

Zolrets · 13/09/2021 19:21

I am totally with you on this. Lemon seems more common to find than ‘plain’. Finish do an excellent tablet. You can pick them up ten for a pound in pound shops often. Morrison’s own brand are good too.

Asda Ultimate ones are good (the original flavour not the citrus, obviously)

BrendaBubbles · 13/09/2021 19:23

Get fairy dishwasher detergent, it’s liquid but it doesn’t smell and it cleans far better than tabs

borntobequiet · 13/09/2021 19:27

Aldi ordinary ones are good, but I prefer the lemon version.

nc86952 · 13/09/2021 19:30

I hate any of the lemon dishwasher products and you are right - the plain versions are very hard to find (blue rinse aid used to be everywhere, now it is just the horrid yellow one).

I found Ecover rinse aid did not smell and I expect their tablets are the same.

Natural products are the way to go to avoid the horrible synthetic stink that will permeate all your dishes - especially horrid is how your water bottles end up smelling of that 'lemon' rinse aid forever and ever.

Where are you shopping? I also loathe lemon dishwasher tabs but I don't seem to have any problem buying the plain ones (Fairy Platinum and Finish All in One).

Mind you the last packet I bought was an enormous one a while ago so maybe there's one of these annoying shortages?

Maflingo · 13/09/2021 19:38

Fairy platinum here, I try to wait until it’s on offer!

SylvanasWindrunner · 13/09/2021 19:45

Smol ones are great. They don't leave any taste/smell residue on the dishes and you just subscribe and they come through your letterbox so you never run out!

whiteonesugar · 13/09/2021 19:53

Thanks I’m glad I’m not the only one!

I did try smol but found they weren’t cleaning as well - maybe I’ll try again.

I shop in asda sainsburys or Morrison’s usually and really struggled finding anything non lemon.

I’ll try smol again I think. The ones we’ve got at the moment are finish and when the dishwasher opens the smell is just so overpowering I can’t stand it

I only like "blue" smells

mustlovegin · 13/09/2021 20:12

Ecover Zero, but they are expensive unless you can buy them when on offer

PeonyTime · 13/09/2021 20:30

I've started buying dishwasher tablets off Amazon. If you wait til they are on offer, you can often get a box of nearly 100 finish non lemon tablets for about £11.

whiteonesugar · 13/09/2021 20:35

@PeonyTime just seen some finish 0% for £10, might give them a go!

Tesco own brand “plain” ones work very well for us!

Singlebutmarried · 13/09/2021 20:37

Another vote for Smol here

Also the standard Aldi magnum ones are good as are the Asda ones that look like finish. Both do a non lemon flavour.

purplesequins · 13/09/2021 20:38

lidl w5 are great

MrsClatterbuck · 13/09/2021 20:43

For a while last year I was buying Persil plain tabs which were also very reasonably priced in one of those pound shops. Cleaned as well as my usual Fairy tabs but unfortunately they don't sell them anymore. Haven't tried any other pound shops. Tbh I don't mind the lemon smell and Tesco do Fairy Platinum 100 tabs for I think £12. They are in the bulk buy aisle and you could try to see if they have the non lemon ones. They also have Fairy Platinum plus and not sure if they are lemon or not.

Thissucksmonkeynuts · 13/09/2021 20:52

I use Ecover, can't stand my cuppa stinking of lemon.

Kite22 · 13/09/2021 20:55

Aldi's own.
They come out well in 'Which' tests too.

domesticgodmess · 13/09/2021 21:01

I use Finish Quantum Ultimate original.

Annoyingly loads of the lemon scented ones are currently on offer in Tesco.

I have some Smol tablets left which I'm using when I don't have anything particularly greasy in the dishwasher.

Astonish tablets are really cheap and also really crap so avoid those, it's still a waste even if it's only a few pounds.

leopardprintpants · 13/09/2021 21:43

I SWEAR by asda smart price dish washer tablets.. so cheap and theyre just plain white with no scent

User4378645 · 13/09/2021 21:46

I usually buy fairy platinum or finish from Amazon, I pop them in my saved items and buy when they go on offer

Chatty987 · 13/09/2021 21:48

Fairy platinum here. No smell and dishes come out so clean.
