Dishwasher Hacks

So tonight I’ve thrown in my dishwasher some Alessi steel polished trays, the whole draining rack, an anti garlic metal soap thing, a candle snuffer and wick trimmer, a plastic tray and the sink plug stopper thing.

Everything sparkles when it comes out, it’s magical there’s no way on earth they would ever look so good if I did them by hand.

It’s Got me wondering what else other people put in theirs?

I do my crystal vases and bowls and other porcelain objects, am I missing a trick?

I have a gas stove and put the trivet things that the pots sit on in the dishwasher. Also the filters from above the hob.

I did the kids bath toys a few times when they were younger and had lots of cups and shapes and stuff.

Anordinarymum · 09/09/2021 23:45

I put the trivets from the hob in it and some ornaments. I put my grandsons plastic toys in and of course the trays from the oven. The trays from the fridge go in too.

IM0GEN · 09/09/2021 23:47

The soap / fabric softener dispenser tray from the washing machine.

SallyOMalley · 09/09/2021 23:49

The salad boxes at the bottom of the fridge.

SpikyHairy · 09/09/2021 23:54

Toilet brush

domesticgodmess · 09/09/2021 23:56

I've done the fridge shelves and extractor fan panels, not sure about the hob trivets as they are cast iron, maybe the PPs who have done that could confirm please @TiredButDancing @Anordinarymum

I also put the washing up bowl in sometimes and scourers and bottle brushes.
Might try the washing machine dispenser...

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 10/09/2021 00:00

I think you have to be careful with crystal because it will go foggy and you can't unfog it.

MrsPumpkinSeed · 10/09/2021 00:06

Good tip about the washing machine dispenser.
I put my ikea bin lids in the dishwasher once a week as they get a bit tea stained etc.

nokidshere · 10/09/2021 00:06

I put everything in mine. Household goods, toys, art equipment, trays, anything that can be cleaned on a high heat really.

BrendaBubbles · 10/09/2021 00:10

Dishwasher detergent rather than tabs. You can control the amount better and liquid detergent gets plates cleaner easier.

BashfulClam · 10/09/2021 00:26

The grill from the bbq comes up nice.

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 10/09/2021 00:28

"Hacks" You been reading the Daily Mail?

MrsClatterbuck · 10/09/2021 00:39

I have thought of putting in the washing machine dispenser as well. I have also put in the fridge shelves and in my last house I used to put the glass panels from the cooker door. I sometimes put wooden spoons in to give them a good clean.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 10/09/2021 01:01

The TubShroom and plastic soap dishes/toothbrushes cases.

I did wonder about my Mooncup, but didn't in the end.

Thecathouse · 10/09/2021 01:06

Kids paint brushes and pots (put them on by themselves though otherwise the paint gets on things)

Mega blocks / building bricks

Plant pots

Reptile vivarium decorations (logs, plastic plants, hides, slates that sort of thing)

The dogs nylabones- they always take them outside to chew and they get a bit yucky after a while, quick go through the dishwasher and they look less disgusting again

BarbaraofSeville · 10/09/2021 03:36

Oven door glass, shelves and supports
Kitchen bins

Ours has a feature where you can take out the top basket and fit and extra spray attachment to the back. I didn't choose it for this but it's very useful.

Yes, I think they're cast iron but they come out fine. I think. Maybe if I looked at brand new ones now they'd look different to mine, but certainly, it's worked well. And cleaning them is soooo awkward.
Vickles20 · 10/09/2021 13:45

My iron trivet things from the hob came out of the dishwasher with the dirty gunge dried/caked on. Hack fail there.

However. I saw a ‘hack’ for dishwasher tablets for this, but for soaking them. Will be doing it this weekend in the bath! Dishwasher tablets in water.. pop iron trivets in and leave for overnight I think

clara443 · 10/09/2021 13:45

Many moons ago, I would put the Ikea highchair table in.

I put all sort of random crap in it, lego, toys, fridge bits.

NapoleonOzmolysis · 10/09/2021 13:58

Lego and duplo - in a net bag though!
Fridge shelves.
Bin inserts.
Draining rack.

Take the top drawer out and you can fit all sorts in - i did the maggotty outside food caddies last week - now that was satisfying.

EatYourVegetables · 10/09/2021 14:06

OMG how big are your dishwashers?? My kitchen bin is bigger than my children,,m it barely fits in the kitchen let alone the dishwasher!

MrsPumpkinSeed · 10/09/2021 14:10

Just the lid of the bin fits in the dishwasher. I wipe the sides of the bin itself

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/09/2021 14:10

I seen reports of horses' snaffle bits , stirrup irons , kids wellies and loo brushes going in .

DynamoKev · 10/09/2021 14:18

@SpikyHairy
