Aibu that 40 mins is a long wait?

I get my nails done every 3 weeks. It’s my one beauty treatment I pay to have done professionally (I’m really rubbish at painting them myself). I usually get gels and a pattern/design and it’s £35.

I’ve been coming to the same place for 6 months now so not exactly a new customer. It’s all run by one girl on her own.

My appointment was at 6:20pm today. I have arrived on time and she wasn’t done with the person before me. No problem I don’t mind waiting at all. But it’s acrylic nails and it doesn’t look like she’s anywhere near finished but I figure maybe I’m wrong and sit down.

It’s now been 40 minutes and she hasn’t even checked on me or apologised for the wait.

Aibu to think it’s rude? How long would you wait before you just got up and left? Or am I being unreasonable and should I give her the benefit of the doubt as she runs the shop alone?

For context this isn’t the first time I’ve had to wait but it’s the longest

I wouldn't have waited anything like 40 minutes. Yes I think it's incredibly rude

Cabinfever10 · 09/09/2021 19:08

I'd ask her how much longer she is expecting you to wait as she's already 40mins late and probably leave

PyjamaFan · 09/09/2021 19:08

I think anything beyond 10 mind is too long.

speakout · 09/09/2021 19:08

I wouldn;t have waited either.

SickofCovid · 09/09/2021 19:08

No, that is not acceptable, if she was running late she should have called you to let you know or at least mention it to you when you arrived. I wouldn't wait.

LittleOwl153 · 09/09/2021 19:09

Yes I would leave? Have you paid in advance/deposit? Unlikely you will get that back if you leave without it though.

jackstini · 09/09/2021 19:11

Tbh I would have asked way before now, probably when I saw where she was at with the other customer I would have rebooked

40 mins is way to long a delay - she has no idea what your plans are this pm

icedcoffees · 09/09/2021 19:12

Why are you still sat there waiting?

Jangle33 · 09/09/2021 19:14

Does she know what time your appointment was? I’d find another salon!

Confusedandshaken · 09/09/2021 19:17

I went to the same salon for about 4 years before the owner started doing this. It happened once and I let it go. The second time it happened I left after 20 minutes and haven't been back. My DD had a similar experience. Don't stand for poor service.

Strangevipers · 09/09/2021 19:21

Make sure you have €10 off the price

Florencenotflo · 09/09/2021 19:21

I stopped using a local place because of this kind of thing. They have a sign up saying that if you are more than 5 mins late for your appointment it will be given to a walk in customer (they always have plenty willing to wait), which I think is fair enough. But they've kept me waiting 15/20 mins in the past, often I go before I pick Dd up from school, or I've paid a babysitter to have them for an hour so I can't hang around. It's just rude.

Does she think you were booked in for a different time and you just turned up reaaallly early? 😂

MMMarmite · 09/09/2021 19:23

I thought you were going to say the walk in centre or a and e!

40 minutes is far too long to wait after a pre-arranged appointment time. I would probably leave after 30.

Janaih · 09/09/2021 19:23

If a place offers walk ins then they won't turn anyone away especially if it's a higher profit than a booked appointment. Unfortunately these nail bars are the best so people put up with it. I'd be fuming though.

AskingSimilarQuestions · 09/09/2021 19:32

I think as a regular customer you are sometimes taken for granted.
I once went to the hairdressers and had to wait so long that I had to dash out to my car (with wet hair) to put more money on the meter.
Didn't go there again.

GameSetMatch · 09/09/2021 19:33

Nah, I wouldn’t of waited. I certainly wouldn’t like to be ignored.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 09/09/2021 19:36

My hairdresser made me wait 90 minutes once. I was not happy. I only waited as I needed it doing for that evening. I made sure she gave me a hefty discount. I've not used her since.

I usually pop out on my break at work so I couldn't wait even if I wanted to. One place tried to charge me for a missed appointment when I had to leave because of their poor timekeeping.

Antinerak · 09/09/2021 19:37

Your lack of replies suggests you've gone in for your appointment. I hope she gives you a discount or free re-fill. 10/15 mins I'd understand but not 40

Boredhimtodeath · 09/09/2021 19:45

My friend owns a salon and once made me wait 30 minutes because a walk in turned up. She commented that she didn’t think I would mind being pushed back for a proper customer even though I pay full price. I go somewhere else now that’s cheaper and I get proper service!

Toddlerteaplease · 09/09/2021 19:46

I had an appointment for an eyebrow wax a few weeks ago. I tired you on time and had to wait as the therapist was doing nails. Fine, except the lady who just turned up on spec got done first. I was not impressed!

Derbee · 09/09/2021 19:47

I’d have left after 20 mins

SpiderinaWingMirror · 09/09/2021 20:00

Yep 15 mins and then I go.
Earlier this week I had a facial wax appt. Booked for 1pm. Arrived 5 mins early to be told therapist wasn't in yet but started at 1.
At 1.10 I asked and was told that she had forgotten. Was on her way in and would be 20 mins. I left!

toocold54 · 09/09/2021 20:09

I would leave.
It may be different if she had come over and apologised and offered you a drink etc but even then 40mins waiting is way too long and I would have thought she has got your appointment confused with someone else’s and doesn’t realise you’ve been waiting so long.
Just say you need to leave as you have an appointment and can’t wait any longer.

BatShitBitchChops · 09/09/2021 20:16

I am a nail tech that works mobile and from home. I give a 15 minute grace period for clients who are late then they are cancelled. No way would I still be sitting there, the client before you was obviously late or turned up with product from elsewhere on her nails and that is up to the tech to refuse her as it would make her run late. Not professional!

Tumble23 · 09/09/2021 20:17

Just as I posted this she came over and said she was ready.

After seeing the replies I feel like a right idiot for sitting there that long and now I’ve done the appointment too!!

Definitely won’t be going back.

Also thinking I need to reevaluate and stop being such a push over because clearly I waited far far too long!! Useful lesson learned, thank you for all who replied
