Wwyd? Neighbour issue..

Homeontherangeuk · 08/09/2021 19:50

We have had awful issues recently with neighbours & resorted to cctv as extra security... When this went up they called the police as they said it was pointing on their property... Police were satisfied when they called that all was within our boundary... Anyhow cctv has gone up out the front & us just covering our little front garden but they have put two big mattresses their side of the fence as a "screen" from the camera that isn't in their direction 😩 it looks awful what can we do? I really dont want the police coming twice in one week & we're no longer talking to them...

Jeez how petty. Id ignore as its clearly been done to get a reaction. Do not give the reaction! This will be more annoying than anything you can do. I'd even suggest being friendly towards them with a 'hello!' If you see them. It'll drive them insane! And I bet the mattresses will disappear soon.

Stompythedinosaur · 08/09/2021 19:56

Put up a fence or grow something that will hide the view (bamboo fargesia in a pot maybe).

joangray38 · 08/09/2021 19:58

Point out to them that rats and mice will love living in warm comfy mattresses !

Returnoftheowl · 08/09/2021 19:58

It's very petty, but I don't think you can actually "do" anything. If they want to have mattresses on their own garden unfortunately it's up to them.

Theunamedcat · 08/09/2021 19:59

Spray the mattress with catnip

TaraR2020 · 08/09/2021 20:00

This is a good idea

Or maybe sow the mattresses with cress when they're not looking GrinGrin

jimmyhill · 08/09/2021 20:00

Time to move

Theunamedcat · 08/09/2021 20:00

If they are at the front I think the council can ask them to remove them im not sure but either way if they want to look like scruffy bastards let them

Mamamamasaurus · 08/09/2021 20:05

Please PLEASE chuck some cress seeds onto them right before a big rain. I'll bow at your feet if you do this

thistimelastweek · 08/09/2021 20:09

Mattresses in the front garden is never a good look.

But the mattresses are in THEIR front garden. Passers -by aren't looking at them and judging you.

Sit back and let them show themselves up. Revenge is a dish and all that.

Homeontherangeuk · 08/09/2021 20:13

The way they have them positioned is in a way it looks as it's nearly in ours, they're leaning against our shared fence... 🙈 We're not on speaking terms so can't ask them to shift them, they're in their property. There's rain due tonight🙈

Absolutely no reaction at all!
Turn a blind eye. It will be more of an annoying eyesore on their side than it is yours!

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 08/09/2021 20:27

Report then to the council for having waste in their garden.

FleasInMyKnees · 08/09/2021 20:28

Just let them crack on looking like they live in a complete tip, if they are not fire retardant they could be a danger which the council or fire brigade could offer advice on. When the heavy rain starts they will become soft, saggy and impossible to move (the mattresses not the ndn)

TSSDNCOP · 08/09/2021 20:48

They'll get bored before you.

Then again I'm a petty bastard so I'd have draped fairy lights on "my" side by now.

999caffeineplease · 08/09/2021 20:53

Report to the council, say you're concerned about the waste in their garden attracting vermin

Bargebill19 · 08/09/2021 20:58

I would ring the council. Ours would class that as flytipping, unless they can prove they have someone collecting it.

Suzi888 · 08/09/2021 21:00

If you ever want to sell, I’d be careful how much reporting you are doing. You’ll have to declare a dispute and will struggle to sell.

I’d not react at all, because that’s what they want.

MrsRobbieHart · 08/09/2021 21:03

Who the hell has two spare mattresses to use as a camera shield? Confused

Bargebill19 · 08/09/2021 21:07

@Suzi888

Has that ship not already sailed as the police have been involved?

SavoyCabbage · 08/09/2021 21:11

Just ignore it and start thinking in the long term about moving. You can't do anything about their behaviour. You can only control how you react to it.

It sounds to me like this could really escalate if you aren't careful.

Suzi888 · 08/09/2021 21:13

Probably @Bargebill19. I don’t know how much you have to disclose to new buyers.

Ohsoquietchange · 08/09/2021 21:15

So what they’ve put them up, might look awful but it’s not your problem. Ignore it and move on

CombatBarbie · 08/09/2021 21:15

So when the shared fence collapses with the weight, refuse to contribute.

Ohsoquietchange · 08/09/2021 21:16

@Bargebill19 you are right as would need to be disclosed, hopefully it’s rented
