Most real airbnbs are dirty

So I have been fortunate enough to have three breaks away this summer but in each place I have stayed I have had to clean once I got there as they really weren't clean!

All booked on airbnb but varying locations and prices. Wondered if it was just me so looked at reviews and no one has said anything negative about cleanliness.

Having a toddler and a Labrador I didn't think my cleanliness standards were high but apparently they are!

Aibu to say that airbnbs are dirty and not want to pay the cleaning fees they add on!

Examples of dirtyness:
Muck around taps
Dirty toilet hinges
very dusty trinkets and ornaments
dirty dish drying rack
toddler getting dirty feet from just walking around the place
dirty doorframes with fingerprints on
dirty mirrors and windows
very dirty oven
rug that has a texture to it as obviously full of grime (didn't clean that obvs but rolled it up out of the way)
Stained mugs

Maybe these are small things but once you notice one thing I felt like I then noticed lots of others and then just had a feeling of being unclean so had to get supplies to clean, the next two I just took cleaning supplies with me and was prepared. Maybe I need to star booking souless but clean hotels

I have only stayed in one which was dirty (and really quite dirty); it was someone's own flat where they only lived part-time. It was a bargain for an expensive European capital and I should have known better. I now look for "superhost" hosted properties and avoid anything which looks cluttered with personal effects or bohemian (as much as I like that look). I have learnt to read between the lines of reviews and avoid the word "homely" like the plague! Not had a bad experience since.
I think the issue this year is that lots of first time hosts have been attracted to the site with the promise of making a mint by renting out their annex to desperate holidaymakers.

I've never had a problem but we go for higher end places and I scrutinise the photos. I'd never go for somewhere that was someone's home. Although a friend does rent her home out on it and it's spotless!!

My friends own a airb&b and it's like a show home , on changeover day she and a lady they employ spend 4 hours each working on the clean ( it's quite big) and it's spotless afterwards , I know she's always knackered on changeover day from the effort of cleaning in a short space of time but I also know her standards are very high and she pushes for a perfect end result

Not in my experience. The ones I've stated in have been cleaner than my house for sure!

I’ve stayed in dozens of Airb&bs, in several countries (all super hosts and with good reviews). I’d still say the houses aren’t generally clean. Sheets are changed, but I think the houses just aren’t properly cleaned between guests.

I've stayed in about 10 Airbnb's and cleanliness hasnt been an issue

I previously worked for a company for three years that provided serviced accommodation throughout the North West area. It was an absolute nightmare and I have no idea how I lasted so long. Some days I was expected to clean 3-4 properties all in different locations. Most days I would go without a lunch break as I just didn't have the time between cleaning a property and then having to rush off to the next one. There were larger properties, in particular a 10 bedroom house with a bathroom in each room, large living room and kitchen. The kitchen alone had 2 ovens, 3 fridges, 3 microwaves and I was expected to have the whole house ready in 5 hours. It didn't help if the guests left late or arrived early. Most of my cleans were rushed and I often felt guilty for the people booking the properties, however there wasn't much I could do but try my hardest with the time I had.

I told the owners time and time again that I didn't have time to clean that many properties in one day but they never listened. They even called me in for a meeting one day to explain that they'd inspected one of my cleans and wasn't impressed. I asked them how they expected me to do a thorough job if I had 4 cleans a day to which they back tracked and agreed with me that it wasn't doable Hmm, however they never hired anymore staff so the problem continued Confused. I left last year and have never looked back. I sometimes look at their reviews online and see that people are still complaining about the cleanliness of the properties. I'm sure there are some great Air bnbs out there but it's certainly not been my experience due to the owners pure greed.
