To think it's OK to park on a single yellow line on a BH?

We live on a road with parking restrictions. There are single yellow lines to show where you can't park between 8.30am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.

I have always assumed (maybe wrongly?!) that BHs are treated as either Saturdays or Sundays for parking enforcement. We got a ticket at 8.43am this morning stating that we were parked during restricted hours.

Just checked the sign and there's nothing about bank holidays one way or the other.

Any ideas what the right answer is? Google isn't helping and can't ring the Council until tomorrow

I think unless it states the rules include bank holidays then a Monday is just a Monday. Sorry!

AnnieBanannie1 · 30/08/2021 16:59

If it doesn't state excluding bank holiday Mondays then it'll be treated as a normal Monday I'm afraid

RubyGoat · 30/08/2021 17:00

I wasn't aware that double yellow lines took bank holidays.

drspouse · 30/08/2021 17:02

They don't, single yellows do take weekends off though.
AlCalavicci · 30/08/2021 17:02

I would presu,e that unless it stated you are allowed to park there on BH it is still restricted . It may be worth you appealing it though , you never know they may drop it

No one said anything about double yellows lines Hmm
1987qwerty · 30/08/2021 17:03

It's a Monday.

BashfulClam · 30/08/2021 17:04

Nope bank holidays are treated as normal days. Sometimes Christmas Day and New Years daycare excluded but it would state that.

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 30/08/2021 17:04

Unless it actually says it - never assume it.

AlCalavicci · 30/08/2021 17:04

Grin Grin @LegoCaltrops &@drspouse I wonder where they go and what they do ?

ThinWomansBrain · 30/08/2021 17:04

check your councils' website?

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 30/08/2021 17:04

If it doesn't say bank holidays are excluded on the sign I'd assume it would be treated as a normal monday

endofthelinefinally · 30/08/2021 17:05

Where I live the traffic wardens are always out in force on a BH Monday. It is always counted as an ordinary weekday and they make a killing.

KilledByWitches · 30/08/2021 17:05

As said. It would state.
The car parking machines here state except for Sunday’s and bank holidays. Street signs should read the same.

BaconAvocado · 30/08/2021 17:07

Bank holiday Mondays are Mondays so YABU

TakeYourFinalPosition · 30/08/2021 17:07

It would say if it excluded bank holidays - sadly it doesn’t seem this one does.

There’s no general precedent that parking rules on a bank holiday must match Sundays.

malmi · 30/08/2021 17:08

YABU Mondays are Mondays unless it says Bank holidays are excluded

AshGirl · 30/08/2021 17:13

Fair enough! I should just be grateful that we've got away with it this long!

Also worth remembering that the London congestion charge changed, and is now every day (except Christmas Day) and that the ULEZ and other cities' low emissions zones might apply on Bank Holidays too

AshGirl · 30/08/2021 17:14

PS Very much enjoying the idea of yellow lines taking days off Smile

MrsFin · 30/08/2021 17:23

Bit mean of the council to send a traffic warden round on a BH though.

AlCalavicci · 30/08/2021 17:28

@MrsFin, Why is it mean to send traffic wardens round on a BH ?
If you ran a shop and you knew that you would get lots of trade on a BH would you not open to make the most of it ?

( unles you ment they should not have to work )

coconutcurls · 30/08/2021 18:51

The traffic warden always has a field day down our road on a BH!

newnortherner111 · 30/08/2021 19:02

Councils need the money so I am not surprised traffic wardens are out today. Glad OP you've accepted this with a reasonable grace.

icedcoffees · 30/08/2021 19:09

It would say "excludes Bank Holidays" if that was the case.
