To think it's OK to park on a single yellow line on a BH?

We live on a road with parking restrictions. There are single yellow lines to show where you can't park between 8.30am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.

I have always assumed (maybe wrongly?!) that BHs are treated as either Saturdays or Sundays for parking enforcement. We got a ticket at 8.43am this morning stating that we were parked during restricted hours.

Just checked the sign and there's nothing about bank holidays one way or the other.

Any ideas what the right answer is? Google isn't helping and can't ring the Council until tomorrow

@MrsFin

Bit mean of the council to send a traffic warden round on a BH though.
Why? It's their job to make as much money issuing tickets as possible!

If you don't park illegally, you won't get a ticket. I say that as someone who was ticketed as while ago as I was late for a job and couldn't find anywhere else to park, lol.

Check the council website to be sure on how BH are treated. The council I live in the parking restrictions on a BH are the same as on a Sunday. This is a London council.

@AshGirl

PS Very much enjoying the idea of yellow lines taking days off Smile
Imagining them rolling themselves up and trundling down to the seaside for the day to be mean to trippers!

I have always understood bank holidays are the same as Sundays.

GAH.
Abbreviations!!??!!! Why does everyone abbreviate everything.
🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦

My local city has done away with free parking at any time, including Sundays - I didn't realise due to not visiting during covid, so got a ti ket last Sunday. Had to suck it up I'm afraid.

PheasantsNest · 30/08/2021 20:43

It will state on the sign if the restrictions don't count on a Bank Holiday.

phishy · 30/08/2021 20:46

It depends on the area. In our London borough, we were allowed to park on single yellows lines today.

phishy · 30/08/2021 20:46

Signage doesn’t say, our council announce it on their website.
