AIBU hanging pictures

SAYAAL · 30/08/2021 15:06

I moved into my new place a few weeks ago. Since then I have been hanging pictures etc with nails. I only do it during the day, pretty much just weekends and try to keep it under an hour - I have lots to hang. I haven’t hung anything in over a week. Today was hanging a new feature wall in my bedroom. I put in 11 nails and the neighbours started banging on wall yelling shut up. AIBU to hang my pictures. I appreciate I hung a lot but try to be considerate at the times/days I’m hanging. I have stopped for now but have more to do and will do it on Saturday. I’m within probation so don’t want to get a noise complaint but don’t know how to hang pictures otherwise.

Ignoring the neighbour issue, how many pictures do you have???

AnnieBanannie1 · 30/08/2021 15:08

What picture needs 11 nails?!
I use command strips! No holes left in the wall

NoPinkPlease · 30/08/2021 15:09

What time of day? Do they work nights / have a sleeping toddler?

Tataru · 30/08/2021 15:10

I'm also intrigued as to how many pictures you have! Your landlord is going to love you when their walls are like Swiss cheese when you move out! We've used the velcro strips before when we didn't want to make lots of holes. We actually still use the little circular velcro ones at the bottom of pictures as it stops them going squint.

seaandsandcastles · 30/08/2021 15:13

If you are a tenant do you have permission to hang them?

You should be using command strips, if anything.

Mrgrinch · 30/08/2021 15:13

Why are you hanging so many pictures?

Cherrysoup · 30/08/2021 15:13

This would drive me nuts. My neighbours did 15 minutes of hammering every day at the same time for about a week. It bloody traumatised me! Have you asked the ll about putting so many holes in his walls? Why wouldn’t you use command strips?

SusieBob · 30/08/2021 15:15

@Mrgrinch

Why are you hanging so many pictures?
...because she wants to?

Gotta love mn sometimes. Apparently there is an acceptable limit on how many pictures people have on their walls GrinGrinGrin

OP, in any sane universe you can make a bit of noise banging nails in, of course you can.

WorraLiberty · 30/08/2021 15:15

What time of day?

Why are you using nails instead of screws and rawl plugs?

LagunaBubbles · 30/08/2021 15:15

Why are you hanging so many pictures?

Would think its because they want to!

SAYAAL · 30/08/2021 15:17

I have programs from gigs and theatre shows I have hung, today was 7 photos and 2 strings for hanging a few things off so needed 2 nails each. I generally hang around 2-3. No toddler that I’m aware off and as they are still listening to music/tv/laughing and joking at midnight I’d say work normal hours. Again I try not to make noise. Tv is kept low, music is low when I play it. I don’t have people except my parents around so not noisy in any other aspect besides when hanging frames. I’ve tried the non nail route and they kept falling off the wall!! My landlord (social) is ok with pictures etc as long as I return to how I found it which was terrible! Spent a few hundred just to get in liveable condition.

What time of day we’re you doing it?

Sackofnickles · 30/08/2021 15:19

Crack on OP.

MN is mad sometimes. Screws and plugs for for a few pictures..!

SusieBob · 30/08/2021 15:19

Why would you do that? Total overkill unless it's something absolutely huge and means you leave a big screwhole in the wall rather than a tiny pinhole with picture tacks. Command strips, even the removable ones can take the paint off with them when they go so they aren't ideal either.
SAYAAL · 30/08/2021 15:20

It is 1 nail a picture. Except the two strings I hung which it is the first time doing

Because banging nails into plaster fucks the plaster Confused

PurBal · 30/08/2021 15:21

Not unreasonable at all. I’d probably try and get it done in a weekend if I could. I love having lots of pictures. DH is the opposite. We have fewer up than we used to but not done the gallery walls yet.

SusieBob · 30/08/2021 15:21

If your walls are just plasterboard you should be able to use a hardback book or a bit of scrap wood or something to just push them into the wall rather than using a hammer, it's what I do if I can't be arsed getting the toolbox.

And using screws and rawlplugs doesn't? Ok then.
SAYAAL · 30/08/2021 15:22

Where I used to live there was DIY all day everyday and neighbours were banging all the time but it was part of life that people make noise. I tried the non nail route and they kept coming off and taking the paint with them. My walls don’t like that sort of thing. It’s literally maybe 30-45 min once maybe twice a week during afternoon hours.

I had visions of this

No one likes noise from their neighbours but it has to be done and you’re picking sensible times to do it.
