To think it’s strange my dad thinks 26 is late 20’s

Older ds turned 26 this week and df said to him. You’re up in your late 20’s. Not sure if it’s an age thing.

I would class it as late twenties.

I think it's fine. You could equally say it is mid twenties but it's not really out of the ordinary to describe it as late twenties.

Mostly, it doesn't matter at all.

Seems a bit strange to class it as late 20’s when there is still four years to get through.

21-23 is early twenties, 24-26 is mid twenties and 27-29 is late twenties. 3 years for each stage.

I think it’s weird you’d even care

Personally I'd say mid twenties is 24, 25, 26 and then late twenties 27 onwards. However I wouldn't of been bothered by being called mid twenties when i was 26. (27 currently)

It isn't strange, it's normal. 25 is mid twenties, past that is classed as "late".

It's mid twenties you wouldn't say 16 is late teens.
But it doesn't really matter!

Why do you even care? It's strange you're so worked up about it you've come on a public forum to complain.

I used to joke to my younger colleagues they were late twenties as soon as they hit 25 (they called me old for being in my thirties). :D

I would also say mid to late twenties.

Your dad is right though, your DS is closer to 30 than 20 now!

Yes of course he is closer to 30 then 20 but that doesn’t make someone nearly 30.

My dad regularly makes comments about other peoples age in a negative way.

For me anything 5 and under is younger and 6 or over is older. So 26 would be the older 20s

Yes of course he is closer to 30 then 20 but that doesn’t make someone nearly 30.

But ‘late 20s’ doesn’t mean ‘nearly 30’, it means ‘closer to the end of your 20s than to the start’. I’d probably class 26 as just about still ‘mid-20s’, anyway, but I wouldn’t find it in any way unusual that someone considered it ‘late 20s’.

I think I’m more interested in why you’d see his comment as in any way ‘negative’. It’s completely neutral.

Why is it negative to say someone is late twenties?
