Would you go to space if you could?

Did anyone see the Omaze competition where you could win a two seats on a Virgin Galactic flight?

It’s been making me really consider whether I would actually want to do it, if I happened to have a spare half million down the back of the sofa. It would be a once in a life experience but I barely life flying as it is. Plus the damage constant flights could do the the environment - would I actively want to be part of that? Or is the damage done regardless of whether I’m on it or not.

Would you go on a space flight if you had the means?

Fuck no! In space no one can hear you scream Wink

Honestly no though because the thought of what could go wrong would put me right off, I worry too much.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/08/2021 19:25

No, it’s my worst nightmare! The idea of dying in space especially frightens me.

weegiemum · 27/08/2021 19:25

I'd love to, idlove to be so high that I could see the curve of the earth and the atmosphere below me. Never going to happen.

FindingMeno · 27/08/2021 19:25

No.
We need to sort out the mess we've made of this planet instead of spending billions going into space.

StarryStarrySocks · 27/08/2021 19:26

God no!

wetpebbles · 27/08/2021 19:27

No chance, just thinking about the fact we are a vast black universe makes me feel queezy

StoneofDestiny · 27/08/2021 19:27

Not a chance! To scared, it's too expensive and I've still got things to see here on planet Earth. Happy to peep through a telescope.

FoxesAtDawn · 27/08/2021 19:28

I don’t think I would. I know my apprehension about getting on planes as it is and with no safe landing points once your up there. Terrifying!

But if you came back down in one piece imagine the memory you’d have and the stories you could tell?

Though I’m thinking one of those immersive virtual space experiences will be good enough. They will have fire exits on land! Smile

HumunaHey · 27/08/2021 19:28

No way. I would be hysterically scared the whole time.

WandaVision2 · 27/08/2021 19:28

Definitely!

FionnulaTheCooler · 27/08/2021 19:30

Nope. Hate flying generally, it's only worth it if I'm going somewhere really good. I don't really see the point of going into space and back just for the sake of it.

EverybodyIsInteresting · 27/08/2021 19:30

If climate change wasn't an issue, I would absolutely do it.

But nope, no way. We need to be knocking that kind of stuff on the head imo.

WhoIsPepeSilva · 27/08/2021 19:33

If I had the money and there were absolutes in life, if I could guarantee everything would go smoothly and safely, that we'd get back in one piece etc then yes it would be an absolutely amazing experience to be treasured.

I'm just aware of how much of a coward I am ha ha! Also I'm in no shape to run round the corner let alone be hurled into the stratosphere at whatever G's etc so I'd have to get at it in the gym for a while before considering it anyway.

From an eco standpoint I agree it's not commercially viable though. Tourist runs to space would surely have a massive effect on the planet? Seems a bit unnecessary.

FoxesAtDawn · 27/08/2021 19:37

I do think there’s a serious issue here too of furthering a two-tiered society: the 1% who can afford this and the rest of us. No real implications right now as it’s just a gimmick, but in the long term the 1% are throwing more money at fucking up the world and it won’t be long before there are contingency plans in place for them. Fuck the rest of us.

God, no. I find everything about space so boring. It is literally the one thing on the news that I totally switch off from. Anything to do with the moon, Mars, space missions - so uninteresting.

lokomojo · 27/08/2021 19:39

In an instant.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 27/08/2021 19:39

Nope, not ever

DrWankincense · 27/08/2021 19:39

No.
I love space. I love the images from satellites etc but I don't really like travelling, I'm happy with Google maps ( but even that makes me feel a bit weird).

MartyHart · 27/08/2021 19:40

I would love to. I wanted to be an astronaut when I was a kid but I was rubbish at science.
I'm fascinated with space especially Jupiter and Saturn.

dementedma · 27/08/2021 19:42

Yes. Definitely

AlphabetStew · 27/08/2021 19:42

Not if you paid me all the money on Jupiter.

littlejalapeno · 27/08/2021 19:45

Nah I’ve seen too many movies

EverybodyIsInteresting · 27/08/2021 19:45

@AlphabetStew

Not if you paid me all the money on Jupiter.
Errrr.... Grin
JosephineDeBeauharnais · 27/08/2021 19:48

I’d go in a heartbeat even if I knew there was no way to get back.

Recessed · 27/08/2021 19:49

I would definitely like to, I imagine I'd feel too sick though - I'm a terrible traveller even in a car Grin
