Would you go to space if you could?

Did anyone see the Omaze competition where you could win a two seats on a Virgin Galactic flight?

It’s been making me really consider whether I would actually want to do it, if I happened to have a spare half million down the back of the sofa. It would be a once in a life experience but I barely life flying as it is. Plus the damage constant flights could do the the environment - would I actively want to be part of that? Or is the damage done regardless of whether I’m on it or not.

Would you go on a space flight if you had the means?

Although like most things it's probably a tad anticlimactic and then I'd feel all the melancholy that even space was a let down so it's probably best to keep it shrouded in mystery!

PurpleFlower1983 · 27/08/2021 19:51

I’d be absolutely terrified but I would go, I’d be more scared that I would regret not doing something so few get to do.

BearFacedCheekGrylls · 27/08/2021 19:51

No. Don’t agree with spending money on space travel plus I get really travel sick.

FindingMeno · 27/08/2021 19:53

@JosephineDeBeauharnais but if you couldn't get back what would happen?
Do you mean if you had to stay on a spacestation and never come back to earth?

ichundich · 27/08/2021 19:55

As a child it was my absolute dream, but now it would terrify me!

ichundich · 27/08/2021 19:56

As an aside, space tourism should be nipped in the bud anyway IMO because of the vast amount of greenhouse gases it will produce.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/08/2021 19:57

But if you came back down in one piece imagine the memory you’d have and the stories you could tell?

^^
There is this. But I know I’d be too terrified to do it.

altforvarmt · 27/08/2021 19:57

Proper space, yes.

Paying hundreds of thousands of pounds to spend a few minutes at an altitude not universally recognised as space, no.

ChocBeforeCock · 27/08/2021 20:01

No! I love the idea but if it came to it I would be too scared. Plus the whole no gravity and floating everywhere looks like a total ballache

Classica · 27/08/2021 20:04

No. I'd be bored. My friend was horrified at my saying that to her. Said it showed I had an uninquiring mind Grin

But I want to go somewhere and then get out and explore. Not just peer at it through a window.

She can go to space and I'll go to Japan. Japan will have much better food and souvenirs too.

Classica · 27/08/2021 20:07

But if you came back down in one piece imagine the memory you’d have and the stories you could tell?

But what would those stories be? Bobbing about in a spaceship getting irritated by the other astronauts. I'm dubious as to the quality of the stories you'd have.

Well nobody would know so I’m sure you could add a few embellishments here and there Wink

No way...I haven't been in a plane for years either...hate being enclosed. Feel ok in a train and just about ok in a car but no way in a plane or spaceship....I'll give you my ticket op x

YeOldeTrout · 27/08/2021 20:13

No I would not go. I object to the environmental damage space flights cause.

FOJN · 27/08/2021 20:16

I had one of the first 500 virgin galactic tickets bought for me as a gift, yes really, about 10 years ago now.

I sold it in 2014 as they didn't seem any nearer to the flights actually happening. I was relieved to get rid of it.

I do have a model of the shuttle among other souvenirs. I use to get sent invitations to holiday on Necker Island, 6 days a mere £27,000 per person if I recall correctly.

InterstellarDrifter · 27/08/2021 20:18

Without a doubt. I’d love my mn nane to be a (temporary) reality.

BarbaraofSeville · 27/08/2021 20:19

No. I've 'been' there on a VR headset and while it is spectacular, it will probably get old very quick.

Plus, it's environmentally irresponsible and on a population level, I don't think we should be exposing people to that much radiation. We don't on the earth, so why would we in space, just for fun?

Wizzbangfizz · 27/08/2021 20:21

Christ no, I can just about cope with flying to see fiends and family and for leisure. Rocketing up to space has no appeal to me I'm afraid.

Heatherjayne1972 · 27/08/2021 20:22

I would
And if possible I’d take my phone to film the earth to prove to a friend that the earth is indeed round !

XenoBitch · 27/08/2021 20:24

Hell yes! And ask to stay up there too.

Kanaloa · 27/08/2021 20:24

I wouldn’t. I mean what stories/memories would you have to tell? It’s not like when you go to Rome and say oh the people were lovely, the food was fantastic, we saw the coliseum and the art was just fantastic.

It would be ‘have you seen the dark before? Yeah it was like that basically.’

talkmethrough · 27/08/2021 20:25

Oh yes. I would love to do the Mars mission and be away from DH, DS and family for 4 years. I wish 😞

thetaleunfolds · 27/08/2021 20:25

100% I would!

Popfan · 27/08/2021 20:25

Yes definitely,would be amazing!

Oh my goodness! That’s incredible! I would have sold it by now too. I won’t pry but what a strange and interesting position to be in.
